What eras by artists who are not one-hit wonders produced only one hit song?

"Sweet Escape," Gwen Stefani "No One," Alicia Keys "My Happy Ending," Avril Lavigne Alicia would be invalid because LYNSMA was a huge hit back when it was out.

I guess it depends on what someone would consider a hit, but in my opinion:
Witness, by Katy Perry: Chained To Rhythm peaked at #4 and ended up at #73 on the Year-End List of 2017.
Chromatica, by Lady Gaga: Rain On Me peaked at #1 and ended up at #48 on the Year-End List of 2020.

I agree about Katy but I would argue that because “Stupid Love” was a Top 5 hit (albeit a short lived one) “Chromatica” doesn’t really apply here.

Both felt like massive under-performers for her, in other words: hits by association. They tanked immediately after the initial allure died.

Maybe Adele's 30. One massive hit ("Easy On Me"), one more moderate one that charted largely on momentum ("Oh My God"), and pretty much done, unless you consider the #18 Hot 100 placement of "I Drink Wine" to be a hit.

“30” was just disappointing. It seems like the era of big artists coming back from their long-awaited hiatus with a total titan hit is coming to an end.

Xtina's Beautiful charted the best than the rest of her singles on Stripped, peaking at #2.
Same thing with "Ain't No Other Man" from Back to Basics., peaking at #6.
Feedback was sadly Janet's only top 20 hit from Discipline. The rest failed to chart. Kinda the same with "Call On Me" during 20 Y.O.

this thread is all over the place... Oh My God wasn't a hit because it peaked at #5 (#72 YE chart), but Chained To The Rhythm was and it peaked at #4 (#73 YE). I think tekkenguy should've specified (Hot 100 peaks, YE chart, streams or something else), because we all have different criteria. For example, I think Bon Appetit was a bigger hit than Stupid Love, I know SL's peak was much higher (#5 vs #59), but BA has 1B streams more (1,5B vs 500M). some obvious choices IMO: Kesha - Rainbow (Praying) Sam Smith - Gloria (Unholy) Harry Styles - Harry Styles (Sign Of The Times) Kelly Clarkson - My December (Never Again)

What about Lizzo? About Damn Time was huge. The other two just didn’t measure up and probably won’t be remembered.
Miley this era. Sam Smith - Unholy P!nk - What About Us

Miley Cyrus - Endless Summer Vacations Miley had more than one hit with “Flowers”, “River” and “Jaded”.

How does it go to #8 on popradio but missed other formats...and ds were low. I do remember hearing it on the radio and seeing the video on MTV quite a few times

I agree with this list! Would you say Can't Hold US Down was a hit at the time? It went to #12 based off of airplay and could've easily snucked into the top ten if rhythmic played it more

Never knew that Can't Hold Us Down peaked at #12. Always thought it underperformed for some reason, but #12 ain't so bad.

CHUD just burnt out kinda fast and didn't have the longevity the other singles do.

Would definitely not call Stripped a one-hit era. Despite some oddly low Hot 100 peaks, at the time it was perceived to be a pretty hit-filled album. Tons of radio play for the singles.

Yeah, fighter, dirrty, beautiful, and even ‘the voice within’ are highly remembered.
Dirrty stalling is one of the biggest crimes in POP history.
Lorde not releasing “Buzzcut Season” is another.
