www.radio-info.net/mods/board?Post=336467&Board=religiousMorningLight commenting on a new Clear Channel Gospel station in Montgomery said that secular companies owning Christian stations may have advertisements for things such as drinking and gambling that Christians shouldn't do. To those of you who listen to Christian and/or Gospel radio stations, do you hear ads that you think don't belong?

To those of you who listen to Christian and/or Gospel radio stations, do you hear ads that you think don't belong? I never heard any casino, alcohol or contraceptive advertisements on a religious station and it would be almost a sin against God to hear one. All those I just mentioned goes against everything religion preaches. When it comes to religious radio, you have to walk a very thin tightrope on what is and what isn't acceptable to air. I harken back to the mid-90s when Michael English confessed to having an extra-marital affair and Christian radio immediately began to shy away from him. But that's another story for another day and not really the appropriate board to comment on about that.

I think commericials for stuff like Christian bookstores, etc., would be okay if they were clearly identified as to not be confused with the preaching or the music. I can't even imagine ads for casinos and alcohol. Besides, Christian and gospel stations like to market themselves as family-friendly, and such ads don't fit.
Then again, I heard CC is buying some Christian stations, and we all know how money grubbing THEY are...

I would hope that Clear Channel isn't that stupid to allow casino and alcohol ads on Christian radio stations. I'd like to give them more credit than that.

A lot of churches have Bingo nights, and technically, that's gambling. Plus they sometimes do fundraisers such as split the pot, raffles, and casino nights. Also the "no-alcohol, no-gamblimg" attitude is more prevalent among Southern Evangelical Christians. I was raised Catholic and my parish's annual picnic served alcoholic beverages and they had Bingo games on Friday night for many years.

I heard a commercial for a casino in Vicksburg advertised on the Clear Channel gospel station WHLH. It was for their weekend buffet. I guess as long as they're not advertising gaming itself, it can slide on a religious station.
