On the subject of chart stagnation in the top 107/1/23 is the 3rd week in a row where there was no new top 10 songs (new or re-entry) --- (in other words, 6/17, 6/24 and 7/1, all with the same top 10, just in a different order) The last song to enter the top 10 was 'Karma' on the 6/10/23 chart 3 weeks in a row of keeping the same top ten from the prior week, in fact, ties a record. 6 times in chart history this has happened, the last being December 2016 (12/3, 1w2/10 and 12/17 all had the same top 10, just in a different order) What were the other five times?

so we're looking at a new Olivia single, a new Lil Uzi Vert album and a new Drake album on friday? everybody realized how boring pop music's been the past 3 months I guess lmao Don’t forget Travis Scott’s new album dropping soon. I might be speculating but Ariana Grande might release new music since her 10th anniversary of her debut album is coming up. Idk exactly when but she hasn’t release new music for almost 3 years. I cant' wait. I was awaiting a shakeup on the charts.

Oh snap! The miscreants won't stand a chance! But nah, this place is a mess. Y'all can have it, LOL! Though, I guess this thread is better than...politics? Issuing warnings, vacations, and permabans takes work, WHEW!

Despite the chart stagnation, if someone said a year ago that the top 3 was gonna consist of two country songs and a afrobeats song, it would've been shocking. Overall a pretty diverse top 10.

Interesting how this year started out entirely different from last year, 2022 the charts were stagnant up until April while this year we had a host of new hit songs up until April and since then the chart has been stagnant.

What's also interesting is that the spring season is usually one of the most active in recent years (2022 album tsunami, 2021 had a slew of huge singles and albums, etc).

About 9 songs have so far debuted in the Top 10 this year, that's the lowest we had at this point since 2016 (pretty much when album bombs affecting the chart started becoming a regular thing).

Y'all I am officially old I think. I'm 30 and have faithfully read the entire Billboard Hot 100 every single Tuesday since June 2012. Plus years before that of subscribing to the actual magazine and reading the physical chart.
I... am really losing interest. I think I am just aging out. The charts have exciting weeks and moments, but for the most part, I just don't care or genuinely don't know or like the artists and songs currently charting. I don't mean it in a shady way, I respect ANYONE who charts, what an achievement. But I just... don't care the way I did. This week's chart in particular was an absolute chore to scroll through. (I didn't even read Monday's Top 10 article, and only remembered to check for the new chart this afternoon...)
I will still be here, following along, let's be real. Just wanted to express how I felt.

Even if the charts aren’t moving as much, i’d prefer what we got this year far over how it was the first couple of months into 2022.

I can totally relate. I started following the charts in 2011 and I’m not sure about you, but that was the prime (for me, of course) for songs and artists to chart up until mid-2018 when I started losing interest. Must’ve been the trap era that made me look away, but anywho. Atp, I’d rather have a turnover of songs hitting #1 like in 2020. Kinda miss it tbh. Yes, we had forgettable #1 songs like Stuck with U, Rain on Me, Trollz, Franchise etc, but it was fun watching different songs take turns at #1.

How is “Creepin” still in the f—king TOP 10!!! It might be in the top 10 until late July unless Snooze, Cruel Summer/SNTV, Travis, Uzi, Posty, and Olivia occupy enough spaces to get rid of it and other older songs like Kill Bill, Flowers, Calm Down and Favorite Song to mention a few. There’s nothing wrong with the songs above but there needs to be a lot more dynamic movement happening.

It looks to me like Snooze, Cruel Summer and Fukemean are all going top 10 next week which will push Creepin out. If Olivia is out next week as well that could be 4 new songs in the top 10 in 1 week. It's not surprising the top 10 has been so stagnant recently, in that prediction none of them are changing more than +/-5% week-on-week. Increasing the weighting of sales would make the charts move a bit faster as the iTunes chart is a lot more volatile compared to airplay and streaming, but that comes with it's own problem as it's too easy for a small group of people to influence if the weighting is too high.

Slow movement of the charts due to streaming consumption does not need to be "fixed" and is much more accurate than the sales era - we aren't going back to the that era, unless you want to discard a listener's streams after the first week or up to X number, to prevent their consumption from being infinitely reflected, and make a single-time impact like sales do.
Radio is a different beast and is contributing to the stagnation in the modern era though. Some kind of ACR system on audience numbers for songs that have fallen on streaming but refuse to budge from radio (like Flowers) would help.

I agree but then again I don’t want BTS Stans/Barbz pulling the same shit that they did throughout 2020/2021. Were at the era where sales are selling less than 20k-15k per week compared to what it was 10 or even 5 years ago.

(I didn't even read Monday's Top 10 article, and only remembered to check for the new chart this afternoon...) I will still be here, following along, let's be real. Just wanted to express how I felt. I kinda agree, but for me more than anything is the fact that being non-american, I barely recognise half of the top 20. Like, I know Last Night because I went and listened to it after I saw it was #1, but in my home country and across Europe some of these songs are known by few people. No radio play, impossible to hear them when you go out... I counted it and on last chart's I've passively heard 3 of 20, and activley I have only 10. And I don't think that's a bad thing, that every country has their own music style, but for example 10 years ago I knew practically every song in the Top20 (14) without the need to go and search for it as I didn't follow the charts. I kinda miss those global smashes all packed together.

Despite the chart stagnation, if someone said a year ago that the top 3 was gonna consist of two country songs and a afrobeats song, it would've been shocking. Overall a pretty diverse top 10. Yeah, not to mention the Regional Mexican song and the abundance of R&B against pop. How is “Creepin” still in the f—king TOP 10!!! Don't act like you don't know why it's still there: massive radio, decent streaming, and nothing below it that can decisively knock it out, yet. Considering how they're going, even with the barrage of new releases i really don't think Flowers or Calm Down (or really any of the top 5 rn) are leaving the top 10 anytime soon. Also feels wrong to call Favorite Song an "older song" even if it probably won't be in the top 10 in a month.

Creepin with the lowest units out of the entire top 25. It’s definitely not even remotely close to the top 10 in weekly revenue. Last week it was getting out-streamed by multiple songs in the 50+ positions on the Hot 100.
Sure Thing is performing a little better overall, but in a similar situation. However Creepin is long past its radio peak unlike Sure Thing.

To be honest, I'd been wondering lately about re-upping the weight of airplay in the formula. Hear me out; obviously songs with airplay but lacking in streaming will never be contenders for the upper-most end of the chart (and nor should they be, if they aren't getting both) but it's kinda bulls**t for artists like Pink and Miley to reach the level of airplay they have (with 'Trustfall' and 'Jaded' respectively) but all that's good for is... scraping the bottom quarter of the chart at best? Clearly they're not huge airplay hits either but I feel like where they're at should count for something more substantial. What's wrong with a more level balance of songs with airplay but no streaming, against songs with streaming but no airplay?
Even an increase in how much airplay counts would probably have helped Miguel ('Sure Thing') and SZA ('Snooze') hit the top 10 already. It could even give non-crossover country hits more of a fighting chance to maybe hit the top 10 (Jordan Davis comes to mind, seeing as he's #10 in Kworb overall estimates).
The only thing that's keeping me from going all in on this, are the radio zombies still crowding the airplay top 5. 'Flowers', 'Calm Down', 'Creepin' and especially 'Last Night' don't need the added boost.

It doesn't help that radio is extremely top heavy, so increasing it's impact on the formula will hurt any newer song's chances of reaching the upper ranks. The gap between zombie #5 Creepin' and #10 is actually bigger than the one between said #10 and P!nk (#34).
