I find it more laughable that the Barbie song is going top 10 on stan sales alone. Terrible song. Meanwhile Miguel, SZA and Taylor still outside top 10. At least I think Taylor will rise into top 10 in a couple weeks anyways, but SZA and Miguel peaking at #11 is sad.

The only thing that's keeping me from going all in on this, are the radio zombies still crowding the airplay top 5. 'Flowers', 'Calm Down', 'Creepin' and especially 'Last Night' don't need the added boost.

A threshold system would be nice, I think. Japan Hot 100 had a system for physical sales that heavily weighs down physical sales past a certain point (I think 1 million sales only give something like 30% more points than 200k sales in that chart), something similar for radio (or hell, might as well add it on to sales as well) in the US Hot 100 can work. Something like full point up until, I dunno 40 million audience impression?, and increasingly diminishing return in term of chart point the higher it gets. Decent sized format hits will get the boost while the massive, infinitely replayed hits wouldn't get the boost or might even get weakened.

I feel like they're not specifically more overplayed than the #1s of previous years, it's just that aside from the usual 4-5 hits, they're playing a lot more older songs rather than promoting new songs that are getting streamed.
Pop radio has REALLLY been leaning on old hits in the past couple years.

Stagnation is the main problem that plagues the pop radio format in the modern era, their are far less interesting developments being made as a whole between the refusal to accept new songs, older songs to last for significantly longer than they should, and the rotating door as a result is incredibly slow in the top 10.

With Fukumean, Cruel Sumemr and Snooze all coming into the top 10 soon, that’s some movement plus Vampire is coming tonight along with Uzi then next week we have SNTV which will surely debut all songs on the chart so that’s ALOT of songs being pushed around in the next couple weeks.

I don't drive. and I'm surely not gonna go listen to crappy radio audio at home.

even if I did drive, I'd use my phone to play my own music majority of the time. better sound quality, no interruptions, ability to skip/add songs to your library instantly, blocking artists like Chris Brown and Morgan Wallen so I never have to hear them. really no downsides to playing music on Spotify instead of radio.

I check basically all the sane boxes Kim did, only time I hear radio is when I'm in the passenger seat with family and friends just out of curiosity to see if anything good is playing.

8 times out of 10 its something I don't wanna listen to so I promptly switch over to my phone and play anything else.

My pop station is in love with Creepin, it's hard to believe it never reached #1 on pop radio since they don't seem to wanna stop playing it three times an hour everyday. Not shocking that it's still sitting in the Top 10 on the Hot 100.

I Don't Wanna Know only spent 30 weeks on the chart, there's a good chance Creepin' gets 30 weeks in the top 10 alone.

Which is totally fair, though I'd be curious to hear from people who have persistent opinions about radio and what they're doing wrong. If someone has no intention or interest in listening to radio, it's likely they aren't the demographic radio is targeting so they're not going to do anything to try to win you over because it's pointless.

I have always listened to radio and still do to some degree . Most people my age don’t listen to radio though and I get it

I'm a gen Z (mid 20's) and I don't know a single person my age that listens to pop radio (or radio in general). Still, all my older family members will listen to the radio while they're driving even though their cars have carplay & bluetooth. It's really just the boomers and gen x'ers that still listen to radio.

The Barbie song is still projected to have more streams than most of the rest of the top 10.  Also Snooze is still rising, it'll probably get there eventually.

I'll answer for the latter, it just got repetitive for me. I remember back in 2017 when I spent the weekend with my grandma and listened to the local radio and heard Despacito and It Ain't Me nonstop. To me, using Spotify/Apple Music is a better option because it gives you what you want and not have to wait and hear what you want to hear. I go back to radio every now and then to hear what they're playing. 

On top of that, it's an easier drive for me if I listen to what I like.

If it wasn't so repetitive with the top current hits, do you think you'd be more willing to listen more frequently, despite having streaming as an option? And part B to the question, if radio replaced the frequency of those top hits with other songs, would you rather those be current up-and-coming songs (think songs on the lower rungs of the current pop chart), or older familiar hits?

Especially considering there are new  songs with radio potential, Cupid, Fast Car, Hits Different, Like Crazy, Trustfall, See You Again, that new Kelly Clarkson song, etc
