I have a petty grudge against this song since it looked like it was supposed to be an extra for 2008, so when I realized the song was being ranked this year, I had to edit a bunch of posts in the 2008 thread

Didn’t expect this to do great, but have always liked this song. Awake Is the New Sleep is a mixed bag of an album, but there is a 10-minute long jazz-rock epic on it that is actually surprisingly cool.

I feel like this song would’ve been a favorite of mine had I known about it in high school.

While this is a new best for Mat, I was still hoping it’d do a bit better than this. And with that, Mat Kearney is out of retro AAA. My condolences, maine .

100. Playhouse - Van Morrisoncan't recall anything I have remotely found interesting from this musician since we started ranking these lists. 99. You’re Beautiful - James Bluntcan't recall how many times I tried to switch the dial on the radio only to find this crap playing on another station. Why did this become a hit? 98. Hot Cookin’ - G. LoveSounded a it different than most of these songs so I upgraded it a bit. Guess it needed some that Special Sauce after all. 97. Anything’s Possible - Jonny LangMusic was alright, but nothing tank worthy. Don't see why this would get bottom 10 ranks....unless...wait for it... it has to do with the lyrics? maybe??? 96. Love Is My Religion - Ziggy Marley usually don't care for his songs, but this was a bit more uplifting than most. 95. The Riddle - Five for FightingFinally got you all to follow my lead and hate on this band. 94. Stand Up and Be Strong - Soul Asylumnever knew of this song by this band, and to be honest I didn't have to know either. 93. Papa Dukie and the Mud People - The Subdudes I kinda enjoyed the silliness of this song. 92. Shout Out Loud - Amos LeeI'm running out of things to say about these songs. They all floated around the same vibes. 91. Bad Day - Daniel PowterAnother one of those "piano jobs" I just couldn't seem to escape from that year. At least this one here had some melody. 90. Waiting on the World to Change - John MayerThis used to be my favorite song from this guy until I started doing some of these AAA Rds. THis one still has a great retro style melody. 89. I Know I’m Not Alone - Michael Franti & Spearheadback to giving this guy mid 60's slots. As long as he doesn't resort to raping his songs are not that abysmal. 88. Get It Like You Like It - Ben HarperI would dig this jam with better vocals. Like for instance the Rolling Stones. I also think Lenny Kravitz would sound great singing this. 87. So Tired - Eric ClaptonI retired this guy from my music charts after the awesome "Tears In Heaven". 86. Everybody Wake Up (Our Finest Hour Arrives) - Dave Matthews Band Found this to be a somewhat unmelodic ,but interesting composition. It happens. 85. High - James BluntWilderness ballads don't strive too high on my lists, but I liked the way he crooned "High". No where as cool as Tal Bachman, but decent enough. 84. Let Me Go - Sonya KitchellWhen songs start sounding sour I'm gonna start upgrading the female sung songs. Pleasant enough Country vibes are always a safe bet. 83. It’s Not Enough - The WhoFirst time listen for me, this rocked a lot more than most of these songs so up it went. 82. Beautiful Wreck - Shawn MullinsAnother first time listen for me. Catchy guitar driven Pop rock with country tones. Up it went my list. Melody reminded me of some Tom Petty songs. maybe? 81. Outrageous - Paul Simonbetter than half the songs I have heard from Paul Simon. Extras:Sticking to songs I actually like this round. The Denial Twist - The White StripesWorks for me. Put Your Money Where Your Mouth Is - JetA guitar driven rock jam like this is an easy top 20 for me on this list of songs. Starting off with top honors in that year end closeness
80. Colorful - Rocco DeLuca and the BurdenNot a bad song considering what I was given to play with. 79. Blanco y Negro - deSolThis Latin Santana style groove was pretty popular back then. Can't say I cared for any songs except one featuring Rob Thomas and another one featuring Chad Kroeger. 78. Cab - TrainThis is probably one of my last favorite Train songs and it still gets a top 30 rank on my list. 77. Breakdown - Jack JohnsonSo many songs on this year's list sounded like this that I almost had a Breakdown. 76. Someday Baby - Bob DylanHis vocals...'nuff said. 75. Pay Me My Money Down - Bruce SpringsteenA Bruce Springsteen sing a long that I won't be participating in. 74. Balancing the World - Eliot MorrisThis had some life in it. More instruments than most of the songs from this list ,and not a half bad sounding melody. 73. Better Way - Ben HarperAgain with the instrumentation going on. Sitars and what not I believe the Beatles could have pulled this one off. 72. Diamonds - Los Lonely Boyslanding this songs where I think they belong is what gets me that year end closeness. 71. Slogans - Bob Marley & the Wailers f/ Eric ClaptonWail on Bob. 70. Far from Home - Neil YoungAnother one for the tank. 69. Any Other Day - Wyclef Jean f/ Norah Jones..and there it is. Couldn't find a better song to slot in my #100 if I tried. Thank you. 68. I Don’t Want Anything to Change - Bonnie RaittNot an immediate top tier artist on my lists, but I have heard way better songs from her. 67. Gamble Everything for Love - Ben LeeOne of these songs that didn't sound so bad. Decent vocals turn cheese into swiss. 66. The Saints Are Coming - U2 & Green DayI could rant, but instead I'll just say that at least we got the highest ranker for a Green Day song on an AAA list correct. 65. I Don’t Wanna Lose Your Love - Santana f/ Los Lonely BoysMore Latin ,Santana ,guitar jobs. At least it won't stick around any longer. 64. Left Behind - AqualungI was gonna say this guy sounded like a poor man's Coldplay. 63. Rain Fall Down - The Rolling StonesI wasn't the highest ranker for this? WTF is goin g on??? 62. Nothinig Left to Lose - Mat KearneyThe crooning is alright, but while I didn't hate this. I'm also not gonna boost these wanna be Coldplays too much. 61.. Busting Up a Starbucks - Mike DoughtyDon't F U C K with Starbucks.

Photograph - Jamie Cullum Peak: #35 Weeks on chart: 3
Always on Your Side - Sheryl Crow & Sting Peak: #34 Weeks on chart: 4
Throw It All Away - Brandi Carlile Peak: #32 Weeks on chart: 3
Nice Talking to Me - Spin Doctors Peak: #33 Weeks on chart: 3
Apparently the Spin Doctors were still around in 2006
London Skies - Jamie Cullum Peak: #36 Weeks on chart: 5
2 Jamie Cullum songs in the same set of extras! I like this one more than Photograph (and maybe more than Get Your Way as well)

Breathe Me - Sia Peak: #35 Weeks on chart: 5
Would've been interesting to see how this one would have ranked. I bet pretty highly.
White Limousine - Duncan Sheik Peak: #36 Weeks on chart: 7
I believe we'll rank this guy at least a couple times in earlier retro AAAs. For sure Barely Breathing, if nothing else.
Not Tonight - The New Cars Peak: #29 Weeks on chart: 2
Huh, so apparently The Cars had a lineup featuring Todd Rundgren on vocals in the mid-2000s. I learn so much from extras on AAA rankdowns. Pretty solid song too tbh.
Learn to Fly - Carbon Leaf Peak: #34 Weeks on chart: 4
Okay, so I'm actually familiar with this Carbon Leaf song, it's alright, I prefer Let Your Troubles Roll By and Life Less Ordinary. The "(featuring Katy Perry)" in the title of video upload of the music video really threw me off--unfortunately, this is not pre-One of the Boys Katy Perry's first feature on a song. But she is in the music video. Still not expect to see Katy Perry in a 2006 AAA rankdown in any capacity.
Miracle - Foo Fighters Peak: #34 Weeks on chart: 5
The only Foo Fighters song to ONLY chart on AAA--this one didn't do anything on alt or active.
