Jelly Roll Tops Country Airplay Chart: ‘‘Need a Favor’ Has Absolutely Changed My Life’
He ends a three-month lock on the top spot by Luke Combs and Morgan Wallen.

JJelly Roll scores his second consecutive and total No. 1 on Billboard’s Country Airplay chart with “Need a Favor.” The song ascends to the top of the ranking dated Aug. 12 with a 2% increase to 32.9 million audience impressions July 28-Aug. 3, according to Luminate.

The 38-year-old, who grew up (as Jason Bradley DeFord) in the Nashville suburb of Antioch, Tenn., co-penned “Need a Favor” with brothers Joe and Rob Ragosta and Austin Nivarel.
The song is the lead single from Jelly Roll’s LP Whitsitt Chapel, which arrived at its No. 2 best on Top Country Albums in June. It follows his first Country Airplay No. 1, “Son of a Sinner,” which led for a week in January.

“A second No. 1 at country radio is something I wouldn’t have even allowed myself to dream about,” Jelly Roll tells Billboard. “‘Need a Favor’ has absolutely changed my life. It’s been incredible to watch the fan reaction and see what’s happening out there on the road. Thank you to everyone who has continued to believe in this song, and to country radio for supporting therapeutic music. I’ve seen firsthand the impact the music continues to have with people across the country.”


“Need a Favor” is also crossing over, as it rises 26-22 on the Adult Pop Airplay chart.

On the most recently published streaming-, airplay- and sales-based Hot Country Songs chart (dated Aug. 5), “Need a Favor” held at its No. 4 high. It drew 11.3 million official U.S. streams and sold 6,000 downloads July 21-27.

Meanwhile, Jelly Roll ends a three-month lock on the top spot on Country Airplay by Luke Combs and Morgan Wallen. “Need a Favor” dethrones Combs’ cover of Tracy Chapman’s “Fast Car,” which dominated for five weeks starting July 8. Before that, Wallen’s “Last Night” reigned for eight frames beginning May 13.

Oomf, what can I even say.

Unlike last week with the unexpectedly good streaming numbers for Barbie and NewJeans, we all expected a mammoth dual album from Travis Scott and Post Malone and weren't disappointed.

Let's begin with UTOPIA which garnered a mammoth 175M, with 14 debuts in the Top 20, eight being in the Top 10, and with Travis having the whole Top 3 to himself. This meant a new number one with Travis and Drake's new collab: TOUCHDOWN debuting a top with 15M. And for those wondering: ASTROWORLD got 151,575,865 back in 2018 so this is indeed bigger than his last album. (I have been informed however that ASTROWORLD did get more first week streams on AM compared to UTOPIA). This predictably knocked last week's Top 10 out of wack as the only ones that stayed in the Top 10 were fukumean and Barbie World, both each down 3.5% and 2.53%.

While the Top 10 was ravaged by UTOPIA, I do want to shout out Dance the Night which was actually up 7.72% compared to last week. In fact, the Barbie soundtrack as a whole actually faired better than expected against the two big releases as the 6 songs from the album on the charts, all collectively were up 7.25% this week, one of the very very very few times an album gained more streams in its second week. The biggest gains came for Speed Drive with 97% and I'm Just Ken with 20.37%

That isn't to take away from Post Malone's newest album but it isn't a sign of diminishing returns, only drawing 46M in streams. It did however give big boosts to singles Chemical and Overdrive with gains of 115.69% and 47.22% respectively.

Elsewhere, Tyler Childers got his biggest day in streaming yet as In Your Love debuts in the Top 50 with 4.28M streams and is actually the highest debut not from UTOPIA or AUSTIN. The big debut also boosted his other viral tracks as All Your'n and Feathered Indians were each up 15.56% and 14.61%

IIRC i think Luke said in a interview with Grady Smith that he can't do a music video for Fast Car because he doesn't have the publishing rights to make a music video of a cover (or something like that). If he does want a #1 he would probably do a remix (likely with Tracy herself but idk).

Fukumean's actually doing pretty well in the 2 main radio formats rap songs tend to get their airplay from (Rhythmic and Urban). Problem is that the streaming isn't growing anumore (even if it still has a lot of it) and i don't think Gunna's team is gonna push it to pop radio either. As for Cruel Summer, i still think she's gonna give it a #1 push at some point but atp we have no idea when she will do it or if she even will.

Just be patient with Cruel Summer. It’s still rising in points and clearly has room to grow on radio and Fast Car will start falling in like 2 weeks, so she has time. There is no way she doesn’t push it given her pushing songs with much organic interest to #1. Can’t believe this is her biggest song besides Anti Hero since 2015.
