Doja has a solid if a little unremarkable debut. But if it legs out it will be fine, which was the issue with Attention (opened OK but dropped out quickly). I feel like Attention only dropped out quickly after she made that announcement that it was "only a promo single," which iirc was within a week of its release. Like, why would radio (and the public as well) continue to invest in it if she so boldly announced it as such so early on. I feel like even she didn't give that one a chance.
I don't even think they gave it a full week before naming it a promo release. The number right now is fine if she can grow or keep steady. Most of her hits have grown instead of debuting huge. I'm very curious about the run it's gonna have, which is gonna be more interesting than the song itself (which is OK but she has like 30 other songs that are better).

Not sure if it's actually bigger or if it's just luckier, but that jungkook latto song topping Spotify for 21 days while bts songs otherwise max out at one day certainly makes it feel a lot more like a real hit.

Pretty good second day for Doja. The song itself is fine and I think if her team give it the full single push it'll be a top 10 hit if not in debut week at least somewhere down the line

"Style" re-enters in Spotify Top 50 yesterday and it looks like Taylor get 6 solo songs in top 50 from five *different* albums, including two from Midnights, vault track from Speak Now, August from Folklore and Cruel Summer from Lover. Looks like an eternal record that's unlikely to be broken. DBM from Reputation can manage to make it into the top 50, but SN vault track drops pretty quickly.

It’s interesting, when she went to folk earlier this decade, some thought Taylor was done in the spotlight. Now, you can make the case that she’s now bigger than she ever was.

Cruel Summer biggest problem is very low streaming on Youtube. It's actually ahead of Fast Car on Spotify (and closely behind Fast Car on Apple Music), but it's still 5 million behind FC on Streaming overall. Likely because of Youtube streams. Last Night and Fast Car don't have a MV, but they do have much higher Youtube streaming from their lyric videos.
Anyone know if Taylor has filmed a music video for Cruel Summer yet?
She's roughly 40 charts points behind Fast Car/Last Night, and could easily make up that gap by doing a 69 cents iTunes discount and getting roughly 6-8 million Youtube views of her new music video. Surely Swifties can do that to beat Fast Car/Last Night on the 8/25 chart?

Why does no one ever talk about Amazon music? Country songs especially pull huge numbers from there and I’d bet that’s where most of the gap comes from, not youtube.

Remember when Amazon got Ellie Goulding a #1 hit in the UK just by autoplaying the song to every Alexa user?
Amazon has huge numbers for the older crowd especially during Xmas. But their numbers are harder to track. It's also why we obsess over Spotify when it actually is on about the same number of households as Apple Music.

Shit, in her pandemic era she was still pulling 400k+...just to come out of the pandemic(it's still here but that's off topic) to open with another Million, and have a song from like 3 albums ago go Top 10. Sis not missin a beat.

She's insanely close. I don't care how they push it to #1 at this point... I just want it to get there.

We'll probably obsess over Apple Music and Amazon Music number as well if it's available to see but considering the trend in music industry for the past few months seemed to be less and less access toward those type of data I highly doubt it'll happen.

Hopefully Taylor can earn that #1.
As for Doja, (just like Jason for the past 2 weeks) just another example on how cancel culture doesn’t exist.

Great point about Amazon streaming. I was trying to find their top 100 songs and found 2 different charts. Anyone know which one is more accurate? Amazon Top Songs: music.amazon.com/popular/songs1. Fast Car 2. Cruel Summer (but Last Night is not even in the top 100!) Amazon Top 100 Most Played: music.amazon.com/playlists/B0794G8R8W1. Last Night 2. Flowers(!!!) 4. Fast Car (but Cruel Summer is not even in the top 100!) So I'm not I can trust either chart. But either way, it's really clear that Amazon listeners heavily favor Country and AC/HotAC (i.e. soccer mom music). I think I finally understand why Hip Hop/R&B is no longer dominant on the Hot 100. The Gen-X/Boomers have finally switched over to streaming this past year, and they're mostly using Amazon (instead of Spotify and Apple Music). Everything seems to make sense now on the Hot 100 on why Morgan Wallen could get 16 weeks at #1, and we have 3 country songs leading the Hot 100.

YouTube definitely makes a difference. Even if it's small.. it's something.

This feels like an in-fumbleable bag for Taylor lmao. It took them a while to finally push it officially and they’ve done nothing much since then it’s about to be a top 3 hit.
A tour video, 69 cent on iTunes or just Cruel Summer (Live from LA) could literally do it with its airplay soon to top the charts. One thing about her team is if the can even smell the number one, they’re gonna go for it, they’re 100% gonna push it HARD to get her 10th number one.

Rihanna did it this year, 8 songs in the top 50 (they weren't all solo tho) from 5 different albums (Umbrella, WFL, LOTB, Only Girl, Diamonds, Stay) plus Lift Me Up and Bitch Better Have My Money. Her numbers in the US were even more impressive - 17 songs in the top 40 (from 6 different albums plus Run This Town, BBHMM and Lift Me Up).

Didn't Rihanna do that with the Super Bowl? Isn't exactly apples-to-apples.
That said Rihanna's streaming power in spite of the way her music career has dried up is uber impressive.

For the first chart, you need to login your amazon account to see the explicit songs (including Last Night which is obviously #1), but the persisting problem is that multiple versions of a song never merge. The Amazon Music mobile app actually has a chart section too and it seems multiple versions of a song do merge there.

Didn't Rihanna do that with the Super Bowl? Isn't exactly apples-to-apples. I mean, yeah, but Taylor's currently on one of the biggest tours ever (maybe even the biggest?) so there's a reason for her huge streams too, especially because it's The Eras Tour and not Midnights Tour - which is totally understandable since she didn't tour with Lover, folklore and evermore plus she had Fearless and Red TV in between and now Speak Now TV. I know we can't compare tours to the Super Bowl, but I was just stating a fact. Like you said, Rihanna's streaming power is impressive and 99,99% of popular artists even with SB exposure wouldn't be able to achieve those numbers, especially after a 5-year break from music. After the SB The Weeknd had like 5-6 songs in the top 50 of the global chart, and he was THE biggest artist in the world at the time.

I meant more that they didn’t have signed vinyls/cassettes or dance remixes to supplement the push from the Ice Spice remix.

it also helps that Cruel Summer is one of the best lover tracks. also, what did Doja cat do? Aside from hating being a pop star
