I'm not exaggerating when I say that this was one of the biggest pop hits of the year where I live. It probably went something like
1. Calm Down 2. Creepin' 3. this 4. Flowers
😭 😭 😭

how are both jordan davis songs still in I hope that they can last longer, IMO his songs were some of the better country songs this year.

Here we have the biggest hit of the year. I'd probably have this lower if it was inescapable on the radio, but it really... wasn't for me personally. No idea how and why this got as massive as it did.
Condolences, Music Fan . Congratulations Steel Sponge for clearing your #100.
3. How do you think your personal #1 will perform? In the bottom 20 because you all are the worst. YOU ARE ALL THE WORST, CONFIRMED. Although, honestly with all the hate about this song on this thread, I'm surprised it wasn't out in the 90s.

81. Ed Sheeran - Eyes Closed - Knowing how Ed Sheeran performs in Rankdowns, I wasn't expecting this to be in the top half, but within the Bottom 20?!?! 82. Bailey Zimmerman - Religiously - Sucks to see this out, this was fine 83. Corey Kent - Wild as Her - Eh, the song was just there 84. Morgan Wallen - Last Night - Here it is, the top song for the year. I unironically grew on this song, mainly because it is not nearly as bad as some of Morgan's terrible songs. But it is certainly a choice for this to have a rare and elite record and be the top song of 2023. 85. Tyler Hubbard - Dancin' in the Country - Could've been a bit higher, considering it is kinda fun 86. HARDY f/ Lainey Wilson - Wait in the Truck - Utterly basic 87. Jelly Roll - Need a Favor - The superior Jelly Roll song was caught between Year-End's 88. David Kushner - Daylight - As I mentioned earlier, I wasn't expecting a good chunk of folks here in Pulse not liking this song. I now understand on why they made this rank low, but it was a blow losing this (my first Top 10 loss too!) 89. Toosii - Favorite Song - Meh, this was not what I'm expecting given the title 90. Yng Lucas, Peso Pluma - La Bebe - Wasn't expecting this to be the first Latin song to be out considering this is one of the better Latin songs in this Rankdown.

88. David Kushner - Daylight The day it all came together for me This song tries to sound so serious and anthemic but in reality it is so unserious LMAO

Oh more male and country songs purge.
Pleasantly surprised La Bebe, Need a Favor and especially Wait in the Truck are this low, but bummed that Dancin' In The Country is already out as it has decent radio fodder music, certainly better than bland Last Night or Eyes Closed. Religiously also feels too high for its grating repetitive chorus melody.
Hope my #94 is out in the next set.

(Additional comment on my #99/#100):
Feel the need to explain this even though I don't need to. I should say first thing that "Try That in a Small Town" is agreeably one of the worst songs of 2023. I'm apolitical and therefore don't like talking about politics, but even when putting them aside, it's still a very ugly song and what makes it uglier is knowing that it's gained its audience through conservative astroturfers. Also, despite what Jason Aldean has been saying in his own defense, the song speaks to me like he knows what he's doing, and it would feel less rewarding for me to give him the satisfaction of putting a song that mainly exists to foster internet outrage on such a pedestal.
Now as for, "Last Night," as much as I get it's mostly harmless in comparison, it has annoyed me more for a variety of reasons. My sentiments towards hating it are very much same with my hatred towards "Heat Waves" by Glass Animals. The more it refused to become irrelevant and overstayed its welcome on the pop charts, the more I couldn't stand it, and I hated both songs initially when I first heard them. "Last Night" is the #1 song of the year, which to me means that it must have some sort of lasting impact to achieve that goal, but while I can understand why the song has its audience, it leaves little to no lasting impression on me. "Last Night" I feel can be best described as a template for a country pop song. It's got most of the traits of some of the worst country music trends of the last several years rolled into one package while Wallen himself brings absolutely nothing interesting or fresh to the table in terms of production or the lyrics, nor does he show any real growth from his previous output.
The instant success of "Last Night" made it really hard for me to accept that Morgan Wallen truly is the next big thing despite the racial slur controversy back from early 2021. I know that Wallen is doing his best not to repeat his mistakes, and especially considering that the frontman of one of my own favorite bands has been billed as a racist (Matty Healy of The 1975), I know I have to make my peace with Wallen being this new current superstar, but Wallen himself makes it hard for me to do so simply because I dislike a lot of his music, and "Last NIght" is the perfect exemplification of how little patience I have with it.

Thoughts:
I have the contentious opinion of Daylight not being all that bad. Like, it's just slightly worse than Take Me to Church in terms of how it sounds. Problem is the Christianness of it all, I'm afraid. Song was already bordering on lame for me and that just pushed it over the edge.
She roll on my jelly till I need a favor? Is that anything?
May have underranked Wait in the Truck honestly, it's not so bad.
I always find myself liking Bailey Zimmerman more than I expect myself too. Like, I can't justify his music as *good* or even something I'd go out of my way to listen to, but there's something about the "mid 2000s post-grunge power ballad" energy he brings to country music that I find....hm, words like "interesting", "nice", and "kinda cool" come to mind, but I can't say any of those in good faith either. Maybe I shouldn't be sticking up for this guy after all idk. Anyway, all the album art where he has the big gross wet tears photoshopped on is extremely good.

89. Ngl, this is kind of a guilty pleasure haha. I enjoy this one, even though I totally understand how people would find it boring.
84. I really dislike this. Not only does his voice sound especially awful here, but the whole "I treated you like shit, but you'll come crawling back!" vibe of the song is repulsive.
81. This is one I wouldn't defend and it's easily Ed's weakest single. That said, this seems inoffensive and I don't quite understand the intense hatred for it.

@ the country purge. Disappointed but not surprised. Also I have to lol @ some of the commentary the country songs always get. Like several people calling "wait in the truck" forgettable or generic. "Dancin' in the Country" would be basic/generic, but "wait in the truck"? 🧐

My closeness is super high for now but once the not super sucky country songs start to go it will definitely tank lol It has already happened! I do like "wait in the truck", "Need a Favor", "Religiously", and "Wild As Her" (the last three is more like a somewhat like, I kind of burned myself on the last two) so that definitely helped the cause there. I used to like Ed Sheeran way more than the average person here but even I'm kind of losing interest in Ed Sheeran's music, I didn't even bother to listen to the entirety of Subtract and it'll probably stay that way. "Eyes Closed" isn't bad but it also did nothing for me.

La Bebe and Daylight both suck HARD. Now can we get my 98 out so my entire bottom 10 is gone? Favorite Song and Eyes Closed are both just boring as shit, with the former being worse cause atleast Eyes Closed has more meaning and my feeling is more dissappointment given some of Ed's own ballads. I love how 4 of my lower tier country songs that i put back-to-back-to-back-to-back (Wait In The Truck, Need A Favor, Last Night, and Wild As Her) all went out within the span of 5 reveals lol. There were certainly better Wallen, Lainey, and country-rock songs this year, even if Wild As Her did kind of grown on me. Ok, between this and 5 Foot 9, can y'all stop tanking perfectly good Tyler Hubbard songs?? Or maybe the lingering Florida Georgia Line hatred is just that strong. Simultaneously surprised and not so that Religiously is already out. The song is perfectly decent though, it doesn't deserve bottom 20 even if the dude has way better. don't get me wrong this isn't that good but it's not the worst regional mexican song here lol If you can even call it Regional Mexican Favorite Song was easily by far my fav rap song in the list, so of course, exiting so early. It's not our fault that your favorite "rap" song on this list is a boring nothing of a song that might as well not even be either rap or hip-hop. how are both jordan davis songs still in I hope that they can last longer, IMO his songs were some of the better country songs this year. If you exclude What My World Spins Around then yeah. Oh and before i forget, stream this. I'm still convinced Morgan stole parts of the guitar line for Last Night and it's a far better song than that one is too:

Again, sorry for being late (as if anyone wanted to read my poem). Anyway.
I'm lucky to have her as "My Baby", she made my "Favorite Song" sound even better. She made me feel like I'm "Dancin' In the Country" right under the "Daylight". And after what happened "Last Night", I don't think anyone can be as "Wild as Her". When I got my "Eyes Closed" while I "Wait in the Truck", I felt like she always delivered when I "Need a Favor". That's why I love her "Religiously".
81. 5/10 (67) 82. 7/10 (41) 83. 3/10 (92) 84. 3/10 (87) 85. 5/10 (73) 86. 6/10 (48) 87. 6/10 (52) 88. 9/10 (17) 89. 3/10 (89) PERFECT RANKING 90. 6/10 (62)

90. Yng Lvcas & Peso Pluma - La Bebe: Oooh okay, I knew I didn't care for this but lol ouch at this being my #98. So yeah I definitely didn't like this and am very pleased with this showing up. IF only this could have swapped placements with Meghan Trainor's song but at least it shows up now. 89. Toosii - Favorite Song: Aww nooo, ugh a bummer to see this song show up so soon. :( This is my #36. I get how this can be a polarizing song but something about this, I just really like and enjoy this. Wish it could have ranked higher but at least it escaped the Bottom 10. At least there aren't that many rankings in the 90s like the songs before it, lol. 88. David Kushner - Daylight: I'm kinda really surprised this song isn't more liked here as I thought it would have been recieved better here. But learning of the dislike for it, I knew it wouldn't rank too highly. I ranked this at #53 and I do like this song well enough but it's still not a major favorite of mine. It is one of those songs that grows on me the more I hear it. I wish it could have ranked higher but not heartbroken either. Wowzedrs now this song has so many rankings in the 90s, which again shocks me. :o 87. Jelly Roll - Need a Favor: Yeah this song becoming a multi-format hit in 2023 was pretty surprising. I thought this would be one of those songs that I would just hear from him at award shows. But the more familiar I became with this, the more I grew to like and enjoy this song. I never thought I would rank it at #46. His voice isn't my favorite but I do really like the chorus here! 86. HARDY ft. Lainey Wilson - Wait In the Truck: Aww noo I'm kinda sad to see this song show up as this was one of my favorite country songs that I wasn't super familiar with/heard regularly. :( I ranked this at #55 so it's a song that I do fairly like well enough. I guess the storyline/feel/lyrics of the song captured my attention? I don't care much for HARDY but this is probably my favorite from him and I also really enjoyed Lainey on this and she's better on this, of course. I wouldn't mind hearing this more. But I also get why the other Lainey songs ranked higher than this. 85. Tyler Hubbard - Dancin' In the Country: I don't think I heard this song before this rankdown but it was a non-offensive fun country song that I didn't really mind listening to. I liked it enough to rank it at #63. It wasn't terrible for me but also not a favorite. It could grow on me if I heard this some more. This ranking makes sense and am also kinda surprised it wasn't lower. 84. Morgan Wallen - Last Night: lmao dang all the country songs I moderately liked and gave decent rankings to are showing up all before the country songs I ranked low. But yeah I am not shocked to see "Last Night" show up as it's Morgan and he's very polarizing. I'm just glad that this is in his top half of songs and escaped the Bottom 10. I do quite like this song and like it enough to give it a #45 ranking. It's easily my favorite song of his on this list. With this song becoming a big pop hit, that did help this song grow on me. But I am still puzzled how this is the biggest and actual #1 song of 2023. I..... just don't get that. Also I'm not surprised to see this song have the 2nd highest SD, as that was to be expected. As was this song having lots of rankings in the 90s is expected too. 83. Corey Kent - Wild as Her: Oooh I ranked this higher than I expected, as I see this is my #76. This song is alright but it doesn't do much or stand out that much to me. I don't hate it but not really a fan of it. It's definitely a mid song. I do vaguely remember him on The Voice and kinda liked him here, so it was surprising to see him getting a big hit (I assume?) with this song. 82. Bailey Zimmerman - Religiously: I heard some songs from Bailey Zimmerman that I actually don't mind. I see I ranked this at #69 and overall, it's an okay song. I heard some others I liked more but this is alright. Not upset with this showing up. lol wow so many country songs are showing up in a row now. Is this like the 6th one now? 81. Ed Sheeran - Eyes Closed: Hmm I'm a little surprised to see this song show up and not escape the Bottom 20. I thought this would have been liked or inoffensive enough to rank a little higher like into the 60s or so? It's a very nice, pretty and moving song from Ed. I did go through a long time of not caring that much for it but at some point it did grow on me - and enough so for me to give it a #39 ranking. Nice song but far from my favorite from Ed. Wish it could have made it a little higher but oh well, I've had a few bigger losses anyway.
