If I were Lil Nas X/Billy Ray Cyrus, I'd be breathing a sigh of relief knowing the "most weeks at #1" record can possibly stay a little longer on "Old Town Road" with Brenda taking the #1 from Mariah that would need an asterisk if Mariah broke their record. Old Town Road would still have the actual record anyway. |

Hold up...... and on Apple Music, the AIWFCIY version thats on the Merry Christmas deluxe album is not the version that counts towards her (original track) streaming numbers. But, they sure did label it like it's the original version. All versions of AIWFCIY counts towards the original streams for charting purposes. And I'm looking at it now, the original is still track #2 on the deluxe album. No, actually. The "extra festive" version, as well as the Justin duet version, do not count for the original. And, I did check with others who use Apple Music, it IS the extra festive version they have on the album (but it's not labeled as the extra festive version). So the streams DO NOT count toward her Hot 100 AIWFCIY placement. |

If switching up the order on a playlist can cause this big of an impact then it would be fun to see the DSPs do it every year. Let's get Wham! and so many others another number one. Burl Ives is gonna be the main pop girl of Christmas 2027 lol.

You've been crying "payola" in this forum for 13 years now. You need to find something else to do. Anyway, I was just digging thru some of your old posts and found this interesting remark:  Interesting how when some artists are accused of payola it elicits a "so what?" response from you, while when other artists are accused of the same all of a sudden you're huffing, puffing, and spewing bullshit in the hot 100 thread. The GAG is that Brenda has an undeniable #1 hit that happened because it's hot and the public loves it. I don't even have to continue... |

Exactly lol. People only cry about payola when it is regarding their fave artists getting impacted negatively by it. But when it benefits their fave artist, there is a long list of reasons why the chart achievements are real/legit/etc.

I'm still confused as to the issue you're trying to suggest but I'm going to drop it cause you're not making any sense. I just listened to the listed version on the deluxe version of the Merry Christmas album for myself and it's not the Extra Festive! version. All of the streams from the deluxe version apply to the standard album as Apple Music (and Spotify) typically combine versions of the same song together for charting purposes. The same goes for Billboard for the Hot 100 and Billboard 200.

The issue for "Last Christmas" (and to a degree "AIWFCIY," though it's been able to make up for it until this year) is it's too new for 'Christmas Classics.' That Spotify playlist is huge, but it's only for holiday songs released before 1980. It's no coincidence the top songs on that playlist are among the top holiday songs overall (and are the ones you see make the biggest Spotify gains on weekends and then often have the biggest losses coming off the weekends). Any new versions count separately, and in fact the solo version of "AIWFCIY" from Mariah's second Christmas album has charted on its own in prior years ( Au$tin that had had new vocals as well). The duet version with Bieber has also charted separately. You can also tell because Brenda Lee's team has smartly had her 1961 re-recorded version of "RATCT" removed from streaming since it counted separately; that's another thing that has helped "RATCT" make gains on the Hot 100. I think JamaicaFunk² was just pointing out that it's also shady that a Universal version of "AIWFCIY" that doesn't count towards the original was suddenly placed on Apple at the same exact time all of those other things were happening. I don't have Apple so I can't personally say if that did or didn't happen, but if that did happen it certainly is odd. Now, how many weeks will it take for "RATCT" to be #1 for people to start complaining about it not being fair that it's threatening all-time records? |
