I don't understand the appeal of the new Jack Harlow song tbh.

Listen, I'm a lifelong lamb. But part of me hopes Brenda owns this Xmas so Mariah will be forced to focus on new music. I'm so over this Christmas shit. She released one of her career best albums in 2018 and nobody bought it, streamed it, and it got zero awards recognition. I don’t blame her for sticking with what is working.

The Grammys won’t be nominating. People will always pay her new music dust.

I don't understand the appeal of the new Jack Harlow song tbh. 1. Follows the recent trend of First Class & Super Freaky Girl 2. Sounds reminiscent to some Drake’s earlier hits (The Motto, Truffle Butter)

Are Apple Music and Amazon that different? Or is Radio playing a role in why Brenda seems stuck at #2 on Billboard forever with increasing Spotify leads

When did the concept of a song having to peak when it's referenced become a thing? Historically songs have very often peaked outside of their title/subject. Some examples: "September" by Earth, Wind & Fire peaked in January "Theme From A Summer Place" peaked in February (through April) "December, 1963 (Oh What A Night)" peaked in March "Endless Summer Nights" peaked in March/April "Hot Fun in the Summertime" peaked in October "Smooth" referenced a hot day but peaked in October (through the end of the year) "Seasons Change" peaked in February before the season actually changed (that's a bit of a joke) (Seeing the Hot 100 from 1978 that Soulsista posted in the December 2 thread is partly what made me think about it since "MacArthur Park" peaked in December despite referencing a celebration in the park, but people talking about "Cruel Summer" doing well outside of summer is another reason.) Are Apple Music and Amazon that different? Or is Radio playing a role in why Brenda seems stuck at #2 on Billboard forever with increasing Spotify leads "AIWFCIY" has been #1 overall on Amazon for most of the holiday season, it has been #1 overall on Apple a few times and more so is ahead of all holiday songs there, and it has been #1 overall on YouTube. It's also then the #1 holiday song in sales and at radio. Spotify is really the only place where "RATCT" is ahead (and maybe Pandora). Also keep in mind that Apple Music is all premium streams, whereas Spotify has the ad-supported streams from non-paid users that count less.

I don't understand the appeal of the new Jack Harlow song tbh. He just copy and pasted the formula they used to make the mid song that was First Class to a tea, truly becoming the male counterpart to Coi Leray's shenanigans lmao. I guess if it worked once for some reason its working a second time?

And even then isn't Brenda's lead on spotify due to some better playlisting? I'm guessing Mariah got on Spotify's hitlist a couple years ago for some sort of reason.

And even then isn't Brenda's lead on spotify due to some better playlisting? I'm guessing Mariah got on Spotify's hitlist a couple years ago for some sort of reason. There is nuance here that I think some Mariah stans are missing. It's more that Brenda's song is #1 on that 'Christmas Classics' playlist, which is for holiday songs pre-1980 so Mariah isn't on it. That's one of the biggest (if not the biggest) holiday playlists on Spotify, so that's why you often see the older songs make bigger gains than newer songs. Brenda being #1 on that playlist (and Mariah not being on it) is huge for "RATCT" for sure. At the same time, "AIWFCIY" is #1 on the Christmas Hits playlist, #3 on Christmas Pop, and #2 on Holiday Party so I'm not seeing where it's being slighted in any way. At the same time, a lot of people still can't seem to grasp that there are many streaming platforms besides Spotify. A song being #1 on Spotify doesn't mean it will be #1 in overall streaming. We still seem to get into this issue here on a near-weekly basis.

Brenda has been closing the gap the past few years on the year end charts . it was quite close in 2023 which means the weekly numbers have been close and it could be even more this Christmas.
2023 Mariah #55 Brenda #60 2022 Mariah #65 Brenda #80 2021 Mariah #78 Brenda #92 2020 Mariah #67

Brenda has been holding Mariah off the last few days by about 300k each time. Is there a chance she might squeek by and get the #1 this tracking week?

Brenda has been holding Mariah off the last few days by about 300k each time. Is there a chance she might squeek by and get the #1 this tracking week? Mariah has a HUGE lead on some of the other streaming platforms (and a big lead airplay too normally) so very unlikely in my opinion. But Brenda's lead over Mariah on Spotify usually grows until Christmas Day where it ends up like 1 million+ streams per day ahead so maybe in a future week. Brenda has been closing the gap the past few years on the year end charts . it was quite close in 2023 which means the weekly numbers have been close and it could be even more this Christmas. 2023 Mariah #55 Brenda #60 2022 Mariah #65 Brenda #80 2021 Mariah #78 Brenda #92 2020 Mariah #67 Yeah weekly numbers were very close in some weeks. I found one prediction from last year (but I'm sure I remember another prediction where they were put even closer):

Here is a compilation of the final predicted difference in chart points between "AIWFCIY" and "RATCT" last holiday season: 11/26/22 - 18 points 12/3/22 - 16 points 12/10/22 - 5 points (but the two songs were tied in early week predictions) 12/17/22 - around 18 points 12/24/22 - 12 points 12/31/22 - 18-23 points (sources each differed bit so that's the range) 1/7/23 - 5-6 points (sources differed slightly in final predictions)
If that general pattern holds true, the best chances for "RATCT" to get weeks at #1 would be this current chart week 12/9/23 and the chart week that includes Christmas.

Honestly I can't wait for the Christmas clear out to see all the newer songs rise. "Agora Hills" going to be massive in the new year *_*

The numbers couldn't be any closrer between "Al I Want..." and "Rockin'..." than they are for the 12/2 Hot 100. Both with a reported 22 million streams; AIW 15.6 million airplay, RATCT, 15.4 million; and 3,000 sales AIW and 2,000 RATTC.Will the gap widen, or will they be super-close again? Stay tuned.

Jack will probably just barely hang on to the top 10 during the week of peak Christmas. Maybe the boost from the album release would be enough to keep Greedy in the top 10 throughout the holiday as well?

The consolation for Brenda is that if she never gets to number one she will at least eclipse Foreigner and Missy Elliott for most weeks at a peak of number 2.

nah, if the Top 5 is Xmas songs next week and it's not even December yet, then for sure the Top 15 will be all Xmas during actual Xmas week. Since the points are so low and everything...

It's time to finally have a 21st-century Christmas song in the top 10. Santa Tell Me was bigger than Underneath The Tree last year (#9 vs #11 on Holiday chart), but it'd be great to see both in the top 10. Classics already.

This is gonna be the first time all top 10 are Christmas hits? With how weak the charts are rn + the fact it’s not even December but Christmas songs are already gonna take over the top 5, probably.

Most of those streams have to be coming from AI playlisting or something……. Cuz there's no way people are already mass streaming Christmas music without us passing December yet.
