40. Play - David Banner

Born and raised in Mississippi, Lavell Crump got his stage name from the lead character of the TV series The Incredible Hulk. He released an album as one half of the duo Crooked Lettaz with rapper Kamikaze before going solo. He signed with Universal subsidiary SRC and scored his biggest hit with "Play" in 2005. It peaked at #3 on the rap chart, #5 on the R&B chart, and #7 on the Hot 100.

David Banner has also produced songs for the likes of T.I., Lil Wayne, Snoop Dogg, and Ludacris.

Whistle was originally formed by Jazzy Jazz, Kool Doobie, and DJ Silver Spinner. Kraze and Terk later joined the group after Kool Doobie left. Their biggest hip hop song came with the 1986 release of "(Nothing Serious) Just Buggin'". It peaked at #17 on the soul chart.

Whistle later switched to R&B and had their biggest hit overall with their cover of Heatwave's "Always And Forever" in 1990.

37. California Livin' - Mac Dre

Born and raised in the Bay Area, Andre Hicks first took on the name MC Dre before changing it to Mac Dre, and would record three EPs in the late '80s and early '90s. The song "California Livin" first appeared on the 1991 EP of the same name, and was later included on his debut LP Young Black Brotha

In 1992 he was convicted of conspiracy to commit robbery and sent to prison. Following his release he founded the label Thizz Entertainment and became one of the pioneers in the hyphy movement. In 2004 he was shot and killed following a performance in Kansas City at the age of 34. His murder remains unsolved.

36. Imperial - Rah Digga feat. Busta Rhymes

Born in Newark, New Jersey, Rashia Fisher started out as a member of the Outsidaz collective and had feature on the Fugees album The Score. She later joined Busta Rhymes' Flipmode Squad, and in 2000 released her debut album Dirty Harriet. The single "Imperial" featuring Busta peaked at #16 on the rap chart and #59 on the R&B chart, and contains an interpolation of "Pass The Dutchie" by Musical Youth.

Rah Digga got married during LL Cool J's Rock The Bells cruise in 2023. It was officiated by Big Daddy Kane.

Play - David Banner: Ugh boooo at this showing up and having the highest SD. :'( I guess that isn't really too surprising and kinda expected with this song as I expected this to be really polarizing. But I do really like this song a lot, enough so for a #9 ranking. I get why those wouldn't like this but I always thought of this as a fun jam.

39. (Nothing Serious) Just Buggin' - Whistle: Ooooh yayy niceee, I'm very happy to get a perfect rank for this with this being my #39 and it coming in at that spot. This is just alright for me but didn't really stand out much to me.

38. On The Smooth Tip - Sweet Tee: Wow at this song having the lowest SD - and the rankings this song got from spots #27 to #40 is really interesting to see as we all more or less agree on this song. This is my #35, so it's another song that's fine but doesn't stand out too much for me.

37. California Livin' - Mac Dre: Ooh I gave this a #44 ranking so I guess I didn't care too much for this. I don't really remember it that well.

Ugly Duckling consists of Dizzy Dustin (Dustin McFarland), Young Einstein (Rodney Pleasant Jr.), and Andy Cooper. They built up a local following before landing deals with 1500/A&M/Universal and later XL Recordings. Their first LP Journey To Anywhere was released in 2001. It houses the single "A Little Samba", which peaked at #70 in the UK. Samples "One Note Samba" by Frank Sinatra and Antonio Carlos Jobim, "Bei Mir Bist Du Schoen" by Jack Constanzo, and "Hernando's Hideaway" by Augie Colón.

Born and raised in Puerto Rico, Ramón Luis Ayala Rodriguez rose to prominence in 2004 with the release of "Gasolina". It peaked at #10 on the rap chart, #17 on the Latin chart, #37 on the R&B chart, and #32 on the Hot 100, and helped to popularize the reggaeton genre. It was the first reggaeton song to receieve a Latin Grammy nomination for Record Of The Year.

Daddy Yankee saw his greatest success in 2017 with the Luis Fonsi collaboration "Despacito". He retired in December 2023 following a concert in San Juan.

35. A Little Samba - Ugly Duckling: I remember thinking this song was kinda fun but then with my #38 ranking, maybe I didn't really think that? I can't remember this that well but didn't make much of an impact on me.

34. Wait (The Whisper Song) - Ying Yang Twins: Ughh dangg I knew that this song was coming up and was gonna get robbed. :'( I expected this to have a high SD, so this having the second highest SD isn't shocking. But I thought it would have the highest SD over "Play" as I knew this would be polarizing. I do really like this song and it's a jam, that I like enough to give it a #8 rank. I totally get the mix and wide range of rankings but yayy to those that ranked this in their Top 18 and above!

33. Gasolina - Daddy Yankee: Well dangg, now this is a bit of a shocker as I thought this would have done much better. I thought this would have been so much higher, ugh. :'( I do really like this song a lot, enough so to give it a #7. This is such a fun, catchy and addicting jam. Always makes me so happy when I hear this. I really hope I don't lose any more Top 10 rankings today after losing two today.

32. Knockin' Boots - Candyman: Well, at least I didn't lose a Top 10 ranking herre but still sad to lose a #17 ranking. I wasn't too familiar with this song though the title of it does sound familiar. I do like this overall.

31. Captain Save a Hoe - E-40 feat. The Click: Ahh dangg, I ranked this at #32, so of course I was just one spot off from a perfect rank. But yeah this is one of my lower ranks of this set so of course I'm fine with this showing up. I prefer some other E-40 songs but this is alright.

30. Bad Idea - Cordae feat. Chance The Rapper

Born in North Carolina and raised in Maryland, Cordae Dunston started out releasing mixtapes as a teenager using the name Entendre. After meeting YBN Nahmir and YBN Almighty Jay, he changed his name to YBN Cordae. His 2019 single "Bad Idea", featuring Chance The Rapper, peaked at #22 in New Zealand. It contains a sample of "Home Is Where The Hatred Is" by Gil Scott-Heron, and received a Grammy nomination for Best Rap Song.

Fun fact: Cordae has been dating tennis star Naomi Osaka since 2019. Their daughter was born in July 2023.

N2Deep was formed in Vallejo, California by Johnny Z (John Zunino), Jay Tee (James Trujillo), and TL (Timothy Lyon). Originally going by the name of 3Deep, Johnny Z later chose to work on the production side, so Jay Tee and TL continued on as N2Deep. They scored their biggest in 1992 with "Back To The Hotel". It peaked at #12 on the rap chart, #33 on the R&B chart, and #14 on the Hot 100. Samples "Darkest Light" by the Lafayette Afro Rock Band and "Early In The Morning" by The Gap Band.

Born in Harlem, Gabriel Jackson got the nickname Spoonie as a child because he would only eat with a spoon. He released his first single "Spoonin' Rap" in 1979. Later that year he released "Love Rap" which was the B-side to "New Rap Language" by the Treacherous Three, of which he was a founding member. Some elements in his music would later become recurring themes in gangsta rap.

I would not mind hearing this song more in the future. I also was not expecting to be the highest ranker for this song but that's pretty cool.

26. If I Could Go! - Angie Martinez: Ugh nooooo, at my #5 showing up and I've lost yet another Top 10 song here. :'( Ugh boo I am sad and bummed about this. Love this song and it's such a smooth, fun summer jam. I wish we saw more music from Angie, or at least more music that got popular like this song did, because this is really good and so fun. Super sad this just missed the top half. :(
