I mean...I get Beck working with Pharrell, but Mumford & Sons??? Trying to reserve judgment, but seems like a very weird match.

Weirder than Major Lazer? And don't forget Pharrell's N.E.R.D. stuff...

OMG I didn't even know Mumford & Sons worked with Major Lazer. Ew. I know Pharrell is very diverse, but we'll see if this paid off. Not all of his experiments work.

Song's out. I'm not a fan. Just like with the new Black Keys (whose song is at least decent), it'll be a hit because of name recognition, but I'm not here with it.

It's lacking a lot of the usual depth and layers I expect from Mumford. It feels like an attempt to replicate 2017-era Imagine Dragons except less annoying vocally.

This is... not good at all. And this is coming from a big fan of Mumford & Sons' first three albums. This song is just so annoying, from Marcus' vocals to the constant never-ending *bang-bang-bang-bang* that never switches or turns into anything interesting. Such a let down for me personally.

Didn't listen in full, but...wot. Strips away everything I love about the band. Marcus sounds great though.

As a defender of "Lay Your Head On Me", "Good People" just makes me yearn for a new Nathaniel Rateliff album (given that I like a few songs of his). It doesn't annoy me as it has other people (it's more a load of nothing and amateur than outright terrible), but I totally get the Commercial Dragons comparison and why Pharrell's presence is not helping.
...Actually as I was writing this, another thought came to mind. Given the state of the world right now...probably don't need to elaborate here, it is awful timing to release a song where the rays of hope are finally coming out. It feels very out of touch coming from them.

the fact that both names attached to this are almost entirely irrelevant in current year makes me feel old af
now, i wouldn't go as far as to say this is *good* by any means, but the phrase "mumford & sons collab with pharrell in 2024" does spark a certain dread, and i think that it easily exceeds that in quality, if nothing else

This sounds like an Alternative song Pharrell penned and has been shopping around for years before convincing Marcus to record it 10 years later.

Am I one of the few that actually loves this?
This is one of my favorite songs right now, if not my favorite…

I'm going to have to detract from the masses and say that this really works - and fits - as for the compilation. Imagine Dragons-like perhaps, but... The melody of the chorus is infectious and really soulful...and the Pharrell influence plays out well here, I think. Don't know if it is an "Alt Top 5" type song but I predict a top 10, 17-week-ish run. #1 AAA worthy, in my humble opinion.

I'm a good 25 listens in - The hook "Welcome to the revelation" and the melody of the chorus, to me, are iconic.
I'd argue again this is extremely well pulled off combination - and if you're not into the "indie folk" sound of their first couple albums, this is their strongest single.
I'm not sure if anyone else notices this but the drumming, particularly in the verses, have a strange psychological effect of seeming to be moving to a slower and slower beat as the verses progress. However, I've listened to this multiple times and I don't believe this song changes tempo throughout. In other words, I think it's same tempo throughout song. Not sure if anyone else has noticed this effect?
