Happy to see Ariana debut at #1. Deserved imo, since she was #1 in streaming, sales (despite the questionable remix tactics, although I read that even without those versions the song would still have accumulated enough points for a #1 debut) and healthy first week airplay.

Will the song be longevous? That remains to be seen. I can see it dropping out of the top 5 next week but I feel it will linger in the top 10 for some time. If I were to bet my money on it, I'd say pop radio will initially support the single (as seen by its strong gains on pop and HAC) but will soon drop it in favor of a more radio friendly follow-up single. One could say the song is too house-sounding for pop radio and the melody could potentially be grating/campy to some audiences. I think it's a nice introduction to her new sound but I feel like more obvious Ariana smash singles are ahead of us.

In any case, congrats to Ariana and can't wait for more material from her! Let me also add that this single makes me realize how much I've missed Lady Gaga! It will soon be Chromatica's 4-year anniversary and I've missed her catchy dance-pop tunes. Will radio be receptive to her (hopefully imminent) return? Let's hope so!!

I know what you mean, but I don't think yes, and or even Houdini are flops. I would say J CHIST is a true example of a flop (assuming it doesn't blow up later), the other two have been successful. I would classify them more as underperformances, as in not meeting expectations. Plenty of artists would love to have a hit as big as Houdini or yes, and. Rihanna, for example, had plenty of hits of that size and it didn't hurt her. And if Madonna or Kylie Minogue or Paula Abdul or whoever else had a hit like that their fans would be celebrating. I don't think those are true flops, it's just people expected them to do better.
