For me, 2013. I also started my personal music chart that same year. It was a top 150 until last year when it became a top 200.
I also heard of the Billboard Hot 100 in a 2011 episode of Family Game Night.
If you think 2013 was a long time ago, it began in 1958. Imagine how long ago that is.

In 2007, I began browsing Billboard.com, though I forgot the reason. I would print out articles about the Billboard 200, wasting my mother's paper, toner, and ink. One day I was looking up the chart performance of the "Camp Rock" soundtrack on Wikipedia. On the references section, I came across a link to the SCH media (or something like that) website. SCH media (or something like that) lead me to Pulse. I was a lonely teenager who sought the attention of online strangers, so I got permabanned. Anyway, after the Billboard 200 changed its formula and streaming became the dominant method of consuming albums, my interest in chart-watching waned.

2005. I was more following radio charts because because in the early 00's the availability of CD singles felt so skewed and didn't really feel like an accurate representation. I think they started counting digital sales wayyyy too late

2006
I specifically remember being obsessed with Promiscuous, and I saw that its Wikipedia page cited PMB as a source for how it was doing it (I think it was for its digital sales).

As Patton Oswalt says introing episodes of the Goldbergs, "It was nineteen eighty-something..."

1988, I was 10 years old back then. "Love Bites" by Def Leppard was No.1.

2023, specifically late March-April. But I didn’t really get into it until that summer when I started following talkofthecharts, chart data, etc. I found Pulse however, when I was trying to find 2013 year-end predictions or something like that.

Wow! Did you need to buy the Billboard print magazine every week?

Early 90's, Sam Goody would post the Billboard charts in-store and I would always step in to check them out when I was buying music.

Early/Mid 2000's, it was "Since U Been Gone" that did it for me. Still mad it only hit #2!

I got into the music reviewing/chart watching sphere around 2018, though I'd been listening to pop music for years before that (particularly between 2012 and 2014).

i started back in the summer of 2012, it was around the time of my One Direction obsession, im pretty sure! i remember it being the awakening of my obsession with charts and my own personal music habits/statistics.
what a fun time for pop music also!! Carly Rae Jepsen, Justin Bieber, Nicki, Kesha, Britney, Katy!! it was a great time!

Probably around 1986. I remember writing down La Isla Bonita as “The Spanish Lullaby.”
