Really good. The title of the album fits perfectly with every song.

I really enjoyed this and could see myself listening to it quite a bit. There were no skips for me and, as a whole, it made me feel very nostalgic.

I really enjoyed this. Much more of a twang to the production than her debut. One thing that’s cool about Gabby is you can hear her musical influences shine through. I heard her influence from Carrie on “I Hope” and with this album I hear it with Miranda with “Had It All” which reminds me so much of “The House That Built Me” (with a tad of We Were Rich in it too.)
Curious to see what single choices they go with. “Growin’ Up Raising You” went viral on TikTok and they put it in all the major playlists, so I’m wondering if it is next. Also to my surprise, I thought she was having a Luke Combs written track on the album, did I miss it or did it end up not making the cut.
Im not expecting this to set the charts in fire, because I’m aware that a big reason her debut was so successful was due to her first two massive singles, but still hope that this one can be moderately successful (which isn’t saying much since country album sales are crap anyway lol.)

Idk. Wanted to get into this, but there was nothing instant like on her debut.
I still want her to enunciate too on several of these songs. I found myself getting annoyed with her vocals because I couldn’t understand it and skipping to the next song.

Just like her debut, I LOVED the first half of the album, and then the second half started to go all which ways for me. It is a strong effort and while she is exploring a different kind of sound, you can tell through and through this is a Gabby Barrett album.
I will always wonder what her position in the genre would be like now had she not buckled down and had a family so young. Good for her, do what you got to do, but she used to consistently say her goal was to sell out Madison Square Garden within 5 years of Idol (by 2023). She certainly could have done that, but methinks that ship has sailed and she doesn't really want that kind of life any longer.
"The Chapter", "Hard to Read", "Had it All", the single, and "All of my Life" stand out to me. "Cowboy Back" is undeniably catchy.

It’s also important to note how young she is. She was on idol when she was 18, a lot of priority shifts happen from 18 through your early to mid 20s; especially when you start having a family.
I think she comfortable being a B or C list star, so she can be with her family. I do think coming off idol, prior to her getting married she had a lot of hustle in her, to become A list like Carrie, which I think she could have cause she came out swinging with her first two singles, but it seems now those priorities have shifted.

I always forget how young Gabby was on Idol. I think that the album is lovely, a pleasant surprise, imo, because as much as I liked her debut, I just thought it was really too pop for my liking. This has a better balance. 🙂

This album is very, very good. I had high expectations because I LOVED her debut and think Gabby is one of the best vocalists in the genre that we currently have, but she definitely knocked this record completely out of the park.
"Had It All" and "Hard to Read" are two of the best songs she's given us to date, period, and they're easily my top 2 on the record. Them coming as a perfect 1-2 punch in the middle of the record is just so tasty. "Had It All" with that HOOK (we didn't have it all together, but together we had it all) is like the perfect encapsulation of what I just love about country music. Such a gut punch. The whole song is very Reba-esque to me from the vivid lyricism to the anthemic chorus to the emotional delivery. I could totally see her cutting this one. "Hard to Read" is just another amazing track, especially melodically. I'm a total melody slut when it comes to music -- it is the most important piece to the puzzle imo. And this one just serves that up in spades. In a perfect world, both of these would be singles at country radio and become huge career #1 smashes, but we'd be lucky to realistically get even 1 of them as a single.
"Cowboy Back" and "You're My Texas" are also comfortably in the top 5 for me on the record. The fiddle on "Cowboy" is delicious. The vivid songwriting on both with their rural/Southern aesthetic is strong and they both, again, have A+ melodies. Another two that could very easily be country radio singles and would likely smash their way up to the top of the charts.
"Dance Like No One's Watching" is another winner. Classic 3-verse storyteller country here. I'm glad Luke pitched this to Gabby because it fits her like a glove and her voice on this is just money.
"Grow Apart" has another one of those really crunchy country hooks, being written from that perspective of saying that there's a lot of growing we do in this world, but the one thing she doesn't want is to grow apart from the one she loves. Gut punch.
"Growin' Up Raising You" isn't even one of my favorites on the record by any means, but it's a really great ode to motherhood and sung from a really unique perspective of being a young woman navigating that experience while also forging a path to country superstardom. I love it. The music video that just came out is a stunning visual.
"The Chapter" is a solid album opener. "God, Money, and Love" and "All of My Life" are good tracks, but just a cut below all the others for me. Still like A- cuts at worst, but in a record stacked with A+ tracks, they settle near the bottom for me.
The two that don't quite stack up for me are "Off the Highway" which is easily my least favorite after a handful of listens because it's the most generic filler cut on the record and just doesn't have anything to it that pops outside of the second verse line about cotton candy that is a glimmer of brightness that I enjoy. Otherwise it's just kinda... there at best. And then there's "Jesus on a Train" which is a nice song concept, but it just feels... corny. Like right down to the title, lol. That said, still a decent song.
It's been awhile that a new album grabbed me as well as this one has right off the bat. Like I was anticipating it to be good, but Gabby definitely came way harder than I expected, lol. She's spoiled for choice for single options on this record and I legit could see any combination of tracks 2-7 and 9 being a potential #1 hit.

Not extremely surprised. "Glory Day" has been a relatively week single, and she didn't promo the album a lot due to being pregnant. The album has some hits on it though. I hope she can get a hit or two from it when it's over. Right now I'm hoping for "Growin' Up Raising You" and "Had it All" as singles.
