So we're back to songs hitting breakout status when they're on the way out lol. There's a possibility Mitski will be out of the top 40 and off the chart this Sunday, so if she's gonna be hanging around as an OTV for a couple weeks after this...
Little bit surprised to see Smith as a breakout before Atarashii Gakko! since 'Hello' got the jump on 'Run' and is currently ahead. Guess that won't be for much longer once those AT40 spins come in for 'Run'. I'm guessing that will be her second AT40 entry soon.

I’m a mess by AJR had a 9 week run not 8. It debuted on the first countdown of 2024 and this is week number 10 we are in.

Thanks to dropping 6 notches in 2 weeks after dropping slowly through the first half of the 20’s positions, ‘Calm Down’ by Rema featuring Selena Gomez’s changes of tying or breaking ‘Dynamite’ by Taio Cruz is severely in jeapordy even though overall spins have not dropped significantly and in reality in the 15 to 20 position range realistically right now on the mediabase chart. Last two weeks have ruined chances of American Top 40 history

If anybody thought the first segment was interesting last week, the 10th segment this week did a similar thing. After song #9, a breakout and an extra, and then commercial. And song #8 began the 11th segment, obviously something that is so rare. And if that not enough, there's never really been an interesting happen to segments inside the top 10 since May 29 of 2021 when segment 11 ended with song #5 and then the penultimate segment began with song #4.

Before playing "Agora Hills" at #1, Ryan mentioned other California cities from this century, including "L.A. Love" by Fergie, "Malibu" by Miley Cyrus and "Beverly Hills" by Weezer.

A few observations here.
Teddy Swims ends the streak of 3 consecutive weeks with just one male artist in the Top 10.
Get Him Back leaves the Top 10 after 13 straight weeks and spending 5 non-consecutive weeks at #8.
Stick Season has matched the peak of Noah Kahan's previous hit, Dial Drunk, and it looks like it will go higher.
Calm Down is 4 weeks away from tying the record set by Taio Cruz's Dynamite back in 2011.
So far, Ryan has not mentioned that Shinedown could be making their first appearance on the countdown since 2010 with If You Only Knew.

Another divergence from Mediabase at the top, as according to MB Jack should have reclaimed #1 from Doja.
In the next couple of weeks “Is It Over Now” should reach the top, which would be Taylor’s 14th #1.

Okay sure, but it's still a divergence because Doja only spent one week at #1 on the Mediabase chart, and yet she's gotten a second week here.

Okay sure, but it's still a divergence because Doja only spent one week at #1 on the Mediabase chart, and yet she's gotten a second week here. Jack returns to #1 and was at #1 on the chart dated Feb 29th. Next week's show will use the Feb 29th chart and Jack will be #1 on AT40 next weekend. AT40 uses charts ending on Thursday, not Sunday. Thus the discrepancies. I've posted the AT40 production schedule a few times. They pull the chart on Thursday each week. Then, the following Monday they produce the script. Ryan then records the show on Wednesday. The show is edited and finalized by Friday. Then the show is shipped for airing the following next weekend. Thus the 2 1/2 week delay. This weekend's breakdown: Feb 22: chart pulled Feb 27: production begins Feb 29: Ryan records voice Mar 2: Show is produced Mar 5-8: Show is prepared for airing Mar 9: Show is added to iHeart

Hey editor, ‘Hey I’m a Mess’ by A.J.R had a nine week run on the countdown instead of eight. It debuted on January 6.

Thank you Mitch wolf
By the way it’s hard to even think that record holder that ‘Calm Down’ by Rema featuring Selena Gomez is chasing spent 35 weeks of it’s decent from number 30 on downward. There is no way we would see this stagnant of a placement on the American Top 40 countdown these days in the last quarter 30-40 positions.
30 - 30 - 30 - 30 - 30 - 31 - 31 - 31 - 33 - 33 - 33 - 33 - 35 - 35 - 35 - 37 - 37 - 37 - 32 - 35 - 36 - 35 - 39 - 40 - 37 - 37 - 37 - 37 - 37 - 32 - 36 - 36 - 37 - 39
That is mind boggling and astonishing that we forget.

I wondering how the Mediabase recurrents figured in the AT40 equation... if we know their formula we can easily predict what to expect 2 weeks later It appears that once a song is moved to recurrent by Mediabase, AT40 just lets it descend steadily (averaging 2-3 positions a week) until it drops off. Doesn't seem as if there's any sort of correlation to actual airplay at that point (like they tried to do for the first 10 years or so under Ryan). Of course, every now and then they throw a curveball like Doechii falling off this week from #31.
