Herb Alpert was mostly known as an instrumental artist . he had two #1 songs the first one he sang on . he is the only artist to have a #1 song with vocals and one as an instrumental which was Rise in 1979 . this spent 4 weeks at #1 in 1968 also hit #1 on the easy listening chart.
