I am absolutely LOVING this album. The cameos from Willie and Dolly and some of the Black country voices that deserve this boost, the vocals being among the best of Bey’s career thus far, the tracklist is flowing so spectacularly, and the instrumentals are SO heavenly. Exceptional record.

And that new Jolene is fucking INSANE. That had my jaw on the floor.

I listened to the album last night and I enjoyed a few songs but kinda agree it's not really country.

Like the great Linda Martell said on the album “genres are a funny little concept, aren’t they? Yes they are. In theory they have a simple definition that is easy to understand, but in practice some may feel confined”.

Because it's labeled country music and is being marketed as country music. I get if you aren't a fan of Beyonce but between this and the single thread it's best you just sit this one out.

This is country in the same way HARDY and Wallen and Stapleton are country. It’s country + and that’s totally fine. It’s also going to (probably) win a lot of country awards at the Grammys.

That said, I wanted to like the album more than I did. I love the ambition of the album, and it has some real standout moments. But I feel like it needed editing. Several of the songs are skipable, and by the back half I had sort of tuned out.

Maybe we should move this thread out of the country forum into a different forum if that is the case.
It is in here though because her and her team marketed this as a country album despite her trying to take a step back on that recently. All the Super Bowl Sunday announcements had country written all over them.

you shouldn’t need to run out and announce you are making a country album though. just put your stuff out . and if enough people decide it’s country then that’s where it will be played.

You've been on this forum for 2 years and only made 6 posts to date, 2 of them now dedicated to vehemently refuting that Beyonce's album is country. Quite frankly, no one cares. You're just punching the air, hun. Go find something else that's a better use of your time, because this thread isn't being moved anywhere and isn't for you to worry about.

I had high hopes because I really like Texas Hold ‘Em and 16 Carriages. But save for a couple of other cuts, the album is not sonically what I tend to gravitate to. And I think it’s because, for me, the whole album sounds less country than the first two songs released. And it may explain why the songs I prefer don’t appear too often on others favorite lists I’ve seen posted in the various threads here. It’s really a hodgepodge of genres to me.

Texas Hold ‘Em is incredibly infectious. It sounds exactly like a song that would fit comfortably on The Chicks Home album in the vein of Long Time Gone. Maybe it’s the Texas country connection that makes me feel the songs I do like on this album are ones I could easily hear The Chicks sing.

The other songs I really like are Protector, Aliiigator Tears, and Just For Fun.

If they release another song to country radio, I think Protector would be good but they might opt for Jolene though I’m not particularly feeling the lyric changes.
