Idk why she really annoys me. She has a great voice and makes great music, but just something about her annoys me. Which sucks as I want to like her. Taste is a bop though, and I love the instrumental of Please Please Please

Since it was pre-recorded, I wonder what the game plan was to have that performance released at that particular time. Is it to help the song get a higher peak? Is it to keep her/the song in the minds of Grammy voters? Was it just to keep her name out there during the tour? Was there much of plan at all besides just giving the album more promotion? Yeah, we're in Grammy voting season, started yesterday. Every artist is dropping performances, interviews, making of's right now (the making of "Please Please Please" just dropped yesterday as well). Yep, it is indeed Grammy season! Everyone is saying the final leg of the race for Best New Artist begins here. The frontrunners appear to be Sabrina Carpenter and Chappell Roan.

How is she being nominated for Best New Artist at The Grammys…? I love most of her music and have been a fan for probably 5+years. or more? How is that a new artist??

Yep, I asked the same question. And yes, they are saying 2024 is the year that she achieved a breakthrough or prominence, so she would be eligible for consideration for Best New Artist.

Yeah, as much as I like Sabrina, she should not have been eligible for Best New Artist.
Even if its supposed to be some sort of breakthrough award, I still don't believe she should have been eligible. Did she level up this era? Yes. But breakthrough? No. the Emails I Can't Send era was when she had her breakthrough thanks to "Nonsense" and later "Feather". Sabrina herself said that she considers Short n' Sweet as her "second ‘big girl’ album".

Ugh. It's the only one out of those songs that doesn't have a #1 peak on the Hot 100.

What's crazy is the fact she only has a single #1, yet feels as if she has 3 (and this feeling the biggest isn't the #1 lol). This era is shaping up to be another Sour!

Even though P3 obviously feels like a smash atp, it still seems bizarro it’s the #1 of the 3. Well, not giving up on Taste yet

I Had Some Help had a big drop in audience today and Espresso went to #2 (new peak) on allover radio estimates by kworb.

Unless Kworb is sourcing data direct from Mediabase IDK how that works, since AllAccess hasn't updated properly yet today.

Yes, I am surprised that "Espresso" has not hit #1 on the Hot 100.
I believe the song was #1 on both of the Billboard Global 200 charts (incl. US and excl. US).
I also thought it was strange that "Nonsense" was a bigger hit on the Global charts than on the US charts.
The good news is she's got fans all over the world, that's for sure!

I wonder how big of a chance there is at this actually getting to #1. If it gets a new peak on October 19th or later, and then makes it to the top 5 of the Year End, it would literally be the latest peaking track of any song in the top 5 of its respective Year End (in relation to its chart year). Big Girls Don't Cry from 2007 and I'm Real from 2001 both peaked in September of their respective years and that's so far the latest of anything in the top 5 of a Year End since 2000. This one would be the latest in this area since 1997 (with Candle in the Wind).

Historically, when someone asked the question, "How does a song get to #1 on the Hot 100?" The answer was, "The song needs to be a massive hit everywhere all at once."
In other words, since the Hot 100 was a national chart compiling sales and airplay data from across the US, it was important for the song to achieve maximum impact across the US at the same time. If the song was super popular in one region of the country, but not in others, and then a few months later, became super popular in a 2nd region, but lost its popularity in the 1st region, then the song would fail to hit #1 on the Hot 100.
That's why radio stations weren't allowed to play songs from an album before it was released as a single (either as a commercial single or a radio single.)
Nowadays, it seems like everything has changed, radio stations can play whatever they want whenever they want to. No record label is going to call a station up and issue a "cease-and-desist" order like they used to.
This also means that we see these weird chart trajectories, where songs don't make a smooth rise up the chart and a smooth fall down the chart. These erratic trajectories makes it really hard to tell when a song has peaked or not.
In the olden days, a record label would not release the next single, until they were 90% sure the current single had already peaked, so as to not steal the thunder from the current single by releasing the next single.
What makes "Espresso" even more odd for me is that the song already hit #1 on both Billboard Global 200 charts, which can be argued is a harder feat than hitting #1 on the Hot 100.
(To accomplish being a massive hit everywhere all at once, across the entire world seems to be a harder challenge than accomplishing that same feat only in the US.)

I keep noticing more elements in the production even 6 months later. This song really is the gift that keeps on giving. I especially love the Espressooooooooo version (extended version) where the fat bassline is made into an instrumental bridge breakdown.

It’s fun to go back to the beginning if this thread from mid April. This was an immediate super smash according to just about everyone (and clearly everyone was right), but no one could have imagined that 6 months later we would be discussing the possibility of a new BBH100 peak or not..,. Crazy.
