Asked in the hot 100 thread, but whatβs the last pop song this bubblegum to blow up like this? Feel like these types of pop songs tend to be at a disadvantage on the charts more often than not. I guess maybe Levitating, though that still doesnβt sound as bubblegum as this to me. This is like if Stars are Blind had been a massive chart success back in the day.

Depends on your definition of blow up, but Cupid's Fifty-Fifty was really big last year (over 1 billion combined streams on Spotify) and was very bubblegum (and Sabrina was featured on a remix of it too). Before that, you had Boy's a Liar Pt. 2 by PinkPantheress and Ice Spice, and that was a top 5 hit and super bubblegum too. Dua Lipa's Dance The Night also comes to mind, and Meghan Trainor's Made You Look was also quite big. |

In terms of pure pop perfection and extended world dominating smash hit potential, it reminds me of Call Me Maybe.

I think we can all agree this gives Doja Say So, but I think this has the potential to be on another level of smash. (Not saying SS was not huge).

Yeah, this reminded me of Doja's "Say So" instantly - even though I prefer "Espresso" by far. "Say So" is easily Doja's poppiest smash by far, but because she's seen as an Urban/Pop artist it seems to be overlooked in the 'pure pop' category. It definitely is though lol. |

This is a lot more glamorous and a lot sexier, and that just makes it a bit too refined to be bubblegum. Call Me Maybe is like a strawberry milkshake to me, while this is like a margarita (I've never drunk alcohol before but a quick Google search tells me this is the most apt comparison). |
