The complaining about Billie's Rolling Stone interview and trying to dissect every single statement into something that can be framed as problematic, 'shady', or try-hard is literally exactly why the superstars of Taylor/Beyonce/etc caliber no longer due any traditional interview promotion lmao.
You all complain that popstars don't promote like they used to when in today's era 1. Live performances have barely any effect on sales 2. Interviews always get twisted into becoming drama or a way to hate someone.
If you didn't like the interview or whatnot then simply keep it moving, sitting here actively rooting for her era to fail because she said 1 statement about wanting to be more eco-friendly with physical sales is the pinnacle of stan-rotted brain. Most of the people complaining about that interview also literally did not even actually read the interview lmao.
You all get 1 sentence out of context on the Twitter timeline from PopCrave and then go rampant. Example being I'm seeing people consistently complaining about her saying she didn't take typing classes growing up.... of all things to get in an uproar and criticize someone about lmao. Just miserable.

No. This has been discussed before. Billie Eilish does not need to bring in specific names to get a point out there. The point stands whether it's Taylor or any other artist releasing vinyl variants. It feels like we're talking in circles, so this will be my final comment on this. I agree that the point is valid and correct regardless of whether it involves Taylor. I remarked that Billie - like most major celebrities - knows how the press operates and that they'll salivate over any possible reference to Taylor, no matter how vague, and she cleverly leveraged that to get an important message into the headlines. You are assuming that Billie had these intentions in mind. Who is to say she truly didn't mean that? Not everyone has Taylor on their minds 24/7. It makes it seem like she had these sinister intentions to try and slyly drag Taylor to make a point when she specifically said she wasn't doing that so we should take her for her word.

Pearl Jam's debut surprised me. It's the same as "But Here We Are" by Foo Fighters debuted and I thought FF had lot of more hype than Pearl Jam nowadays.

^ hitsdailydouble.com/news&id=340993&title=CHART-PREVIEW%253A-A-SWIFT-SIZED-DEBUTFriday, April 26, 2024 CHART PREVIEW: A SWIFT-SIZED DEBUTRepublic’s Taylor Swift has notched the second-biggest album debut of all time with THE TORTURED POETS DEPARTMENT. Her 31-track marvel moves an astounding 2.6m units in its opening week, knocking NSYNC’s No Strings Attached out of the #2 spot (Adele’s 25 remains the all-time #1 with 3.4m+). Physical sales account for 1.9m of the total, with record-setting vinyl sales contributing nearly half. As we reported earlier today, Swift also set a new first-week streaming record, logging 865m streams. Stay tuned to see the full HITS Top 50 later today.

Pure insanity… she does it again.
I’m so curious to see where Reputation (TV) lands…

TTPD is now the #1 album in the HITS' YTD SPS chart, about 475k ahead of OTAAT.

Do we think the album will get a second week over 1 million? Would be amazing if Taylor could also do that! Although I assume that might be quite difficult? What were the seocnd week drops of Midnights and 1989 (Taylor's Version)?

What were the seocnd week drops of Midnights and 1989 (Taylor's Version)? Absolutely not. lol If it drops exactly like Midnights it should sell around 572k week 2, but I'm thinking the drop will be slightly worse personally (likely closer to 450-500k IMO). It is likely to pass 3 million on week 2 tho!

^ I would say NSYNCs are all cds because iTunes didn't exist yet and vinyls weren't a thing then.

It always still shocks me to see how big Norah Jones was for moment there lol.
Also want to give a special notice to EMinem since technically he should be on it again for ENCORE. It was leaked and released early to combat that and sold 710,000 in the first 3 days---then the albums next full week/7 days it moved another 871K for a 10 day total of 1.582 million ,

The Adele numbers are just absurd lol. The untouchable 3.5 million is one thing... but two additional weeks over 1.1 million? And another over 800k right? If it was the early 2000s when album sales were huge, I don't think I'd blink. But for 2015? It's mind-boggling.

Week 1 - 3,480,000 Week 2 - 1,110,000 Week 3 - 695,000 Week 4 - 790,000 Week 5 - 1,160,000 Week 6 - 307,000 5 weeks over 500k/6 weeks over 300k. It wasn't just its debut week but how it sustained itself throughout the holiday period and increasing sales in week 4 and 5 in the run up to Christmas, just amazing. The UK numbers are just as absurd, if not even more so considering the population if 5x less than the US: Week 1 - 800,307 Week 2 - 439,337 Week 3 - 353,765 Week 4 - 376,716 Week 5 - 449,870 Week 6 - 75,783 It was such a great time as a chart watcher! Amazing to see Taylor get such high numbers as well. I hope one day we'll see another artist repeat what Adele & Taylor both managed to do despite doing it in a backdrop of declining album sales.

Adele's NBC special definitely helped increase it to over 1MM in the 5th week.
Plus, "Hello" sold 1.1M in digital sales in its debut week breaking the record at the time. That's a record that will almost certainly never be broken.

Starting off her comeback song that was so highly anticipated with ....Hello....it's me..... was such an iconic moment. SNL did a hilarious spoof of the video as well themed around Thanksgiving www.youtube.com/watch?v=e2zyjbH9zzA

I find it so funny that like people are still trying to say Taylor making "non-upbeat music" means she isn't making music that won't be replayed or revisited by people who aren't her core audience. folklore still gets good streams to this day and that album's coming in at being three years old, still being talked about. Will TTPD have that same longevity? Time will tell but let's not act like she created this avant-garde experimental art project like The Beatle's White Album that's completeley devoid of commercial appeal. As Ling-Ling said, it's just a long Taylor Swift projeect. If you're really crying about her squandering her momentum, then about how the woman who's led the most successful concert tour of all time (even adjusted for inflation) and has had two projects open to 2M units sold in the streaming age, feel free to write about how she's somehow "not fulfilling her commercial potential" I think there is a median here. I'm not going to say TTPD is a whole new sound and completely alternative, but at the same time it's not obvious radio fodder. This certainly isn't anywhere NEAR as accessible as 1989, Reputation, Lover, Midnights, Red etc and that absolutely can be noted and still be sensible, while also noting it isn't distinctly avant-garde. I mean I'd argue jts a middle ground between Midnights and folklore. I would push back on there nor being any other radio singles. Even just looking at the first half: Down Bad, Florida!!!!, But Daddy I Love Him, I Can Do It With A Broken Heart, and My Boy Only Breaks His Favorite Toys all have catchy hooks and melodies throughout. I get Taylor against downtempo Jack Antonoff production is getting old and I am clamoring for her to work with someone else. But both of them can still create catchy melodies even without going overly poppy.

Republic’s Taylor Swift has notched the second-biggest album debut of all time with THE TORTURED POETS DEPARTMENT. Limited commercial viability.
