I still wish Bejeweled had been a single instead. 🥺 I think both songs have a similar “function” on their respective albums, and Bejeweled is just way better.

Hopefully this can find its legs after the album bomb effect dissipates tomorrow.

Overtakes Down Bad on US Spotify to be the second highest Taylor song after Fortnight A 13th album track with zero promotional push and no featured artists did THAT in the streaming era. This is honestly the most impressive feat TTPD has pulled off this week, that’s a true hit right there. And pats on the back to those of us who instantly dubbed this the smash of the album upon release lol.

And pats on the back to those of us who instantly dubbed this the smash of the album upon release lol. So essentially pretty much everyone? lol I get the appeal of this song and have always understood its hit potential, but if released, it's definitely not gonna be one of my fav singles from Taylor.

It definitely is heavy on the cruel summer stadium anthem factor, though it doesn’t have the mass appeal of CS and is more “for the swifties.” But she could probably get it to #1 with a real push. No doubt it’s going to be a *moment* on the next tour leg.

Ideally, Bejeweled would have been the 4th proper single and Midnight Rain would have replaced LH if we’re talking that era though.

Crash was expected as we go onto rolling (dropped out of the top 50 on AC) but this is now the highest of the album tracks!

I have the complete opposite opinion lol."Bejeweled" is one of my least favorite songs from 'Midnights' and "I Can Do It with a Broken Heart" is my favorite from 'TTPD'.

Now that the dust has settled this is the obvious next choice to me in terms of public reaction.

I've always loved the sad lyrics / dancey production contradiction in music but sadly I don't like the production in the chorus. It does sound like "Bejeweled" but I find that song playful and cheeky whereas here it sounds a bit childish. I hope there's a radio edit that makes it more "Supercut". It would still be in the theme of the song.

Weird, I don’t get Bejeweled at all from this. Bejeweled is very much Gorgeous’ twin sonically.

i feel very conflicted on this tbh, on one hand, it probably has the best production on the album but on the other some of these lyrics might just be among the worst of her career

The “lights camera bitch smile” lyric is really jarring to me though, just kinda comes outta nowhere.

Lights camera bitch smile is so good because it captures:
- The literal “bitch smile” you’re supposed to put on when you’re a pop star commanding a stage - “bitch smile” when you’re talking to someone you loathe, but you plaster a smile on - “bitch, smile” is your inner monologue to yourself when you’re having trouble suppressing your feelings - “bitch, smile” is the demands of a crowd always wanting “MORE!” from you

Weird, I don’t get Bejeweled at all from this. Bejeweled is very much Gorgeous’ twin sonically. They obviously have different tempos but that staccato high-pitched synth (that Jack has also included in songs like "Getaway Car") is equally prominent in both of these songs.

This is still the highest of the album tracks; based on the spin loss it got 35 spins yesterday. Hopefully that will continue to be its daily baseline and it can stay in the top 50 to start gaining again/become the second single.

But it's not the highest album track on pop anymore, now that we've got 'Down Bad' just ahead of it.

I get Bejeweled and Mastermind to a lesser extent. With Mastermind being superior to both these songs. Production is decent, but I'm not coming back to this much. Don't love the lyrics. Also team Down Bad for single #2. Less jarring imo.

Mastermind has always been such a bore to me, again not really getting the comps. Other than the very broad sense of being electropop.
