I liked "Me!" upon first listen and thought it was a change in direction Taylor needed to make. I think the response here at the time was generally positive. Although "Cruel Summer" is the much bigger hit/song, I don't think it screamed lead single the way "Me!" did. Of course, I don't think the positive reception to "Me!" lasted all that long, but I can see why it was a lead.

it was the most catchy and it was basically a redo of shake it off. like i hate the song but if they thought the song was good, it made perfect sense as the lead single. cardigan, willow, and anti hero have all been the most radio friendly songs on their respective album even if they are still not super friendly. I think ‘Anti-Hero’ is wildly radio friendly! I love anti hero! but compared to her red, 1989 singles, it lacks alot of the traits that used to makeup Taylor's successful radio singles. she had a formula that she left behind. Taylor loved an obnixious chanting bridge to make her lead single memorable. We Can Never Ever, Shake it off, Look at what you made me do, me! all shared the same trait. in contrast, anti hero is much more a streaming age song that also works well on radio. |

26 weeks in, this song hovers in the middle of the BB Hot 100, yet I seemly hear it everywhere. Nice ad for the TTPD. Most pepe out there do not follow or know much about charts but they know radio. So many public places still play it, and many offices. Hearing a song like I Can Do It with a Broken Heart keeps her album alive. Not that it needs it, but it does. The song on radio or streams in public places puts a face on her album.

It always amazes me to see ADDS for a song when it gets older. It is sort of like why did they wait this long to add it, especially at AC???

This is a valid question for the pop format, but AC in general is always behind the times because there isn’t as much change-up on those playlists with current songs, since they play a lot of older songs. For pop radio, I imagine it’s stations that don’t have a straight pop demographic (maybe, say, a radio station in the South that serves middle class suburban communities and will lean Hot AC/Country), so they may not take Pop songs unless they’re at the top of the chart. |

Some stations are just overly reluctant to add currents until they're already at power rotation. At #9 it's way too high to pretend it doesn't exist, but also be aware an add does not equal airplay automatically. They can add and never play or relegate a song to late night and early morning airplay which translates to lower Audience.
Probably a moot point for this song. It's already high enough that a few rogue stations will not hold it own on their own.
