This week there seem to be a lot of (relatively) older extras. We also have "Down", "One More Night", "Mirrors", "Jealous", and "Counting Stars", all at least a decade old (released from 2009-14). Not to mention the Janet Jackson songs medleyed (her last AT40 hit, at least as a lead, was in 2008 IIRC).

Other than the six (!) breakouts, the only extras released more recently are "Used to be Young" and "Vampire" (both fell off within the last two months) and "Ghost" (only a couple of years old.) And one of those Breakouts is from Hozier, set to soon get his second AT40 hit, the first having been back in 2014-15 ("Take Me To Church").

They seem to play "Mirrors" at least twice or more in a 3-5 month span. This and Usher's "Yeah" is also played way too often. If they don't want to play a different JT song, pick an NSYNC song instead.

They did use "Bye Bye Bye" (from 2000) about two months ago. Maybe this or next week would have been a good time for "It's Gonna Be May Me". (You all know the meme that reappears this time each year.)

"Yeah!", incidentally, was #1 20 years ago this week, so at least it's definitely endured.

Looking back at this year's charts, it's the first time in 2024 that "Mirrors" has been played. "Can't Stop The Feeling" and "Bye Bye Bye" were both played in February and "Rock Your Body" was played in April.

When artists are releasing songs that are 2 1/2 to 3 minutes long these days, and when you're padding the show with 7 to 10 oldies every week, then the same songs are gonna come up a lot more often. Playing the same song every 3 to 5 months is actually pretty good.

Interesting that AT40 didn’t follow the 4-11 chart with ‘Is it over now’ by Taylor Swift. It was supposed to tumble until the mid 20’s this week instead of number 18. Perhaps next week it will fall 10 notches or so. Expect ‘Love On’ by Selena Gomez to free fall rapidly within the next two weeks since suprisingly the spins decreased rapidly last week. Maybe it’s because of T as Taylor Swift’s new album

Keep in mind that "Is It Over Now" has gone recurrent, so its AT40 run from here on out won't necessarily reflect real world movement. Likely it'll drop 3-4 spots per week for the rest of its run.

Impressive staying power for some of these songs ending the first 4 months of the year going into May. 12 songs still on the countdown that debuted between 2022 and 2023. It’s amazing mentioning ‘Calm Down’ by Rema featuring Selena Gomez this late in 2024 considering it debuted in November of 2022. If this is the end of this magical run of 75 weeks, it was quite an astonishing accomplishment. It should fall out next week but could survive a two debut week if ‘Body Moving’ by Calvin Harris featuring Eliza Rose and Lil’ Boo Thing by Paul Russel gracefully bows out instead keeping a third week at number 40 which has happened numerous times before as a former number 1 to kick off the AT40 countdown before.

One more fun fact in this show: When introducing "Feather" at #2, Ryan noted that both a niece, Sabrina Carpenter, and her aunt Nancy Cartwright both had Top 40 hits. "Do The Bartman" (credited to Bart Simpson) hit #9 in 1991.
