The song length usually doesn't bother me much but I think Silly Love Songs can make top half if it is shorter because I really like the main melody.

It’s a fun song but one verse rubbed me the wrong way. “Now don’t you worry about my boyfriend, the one they call Vitorino. I don’t want him, can’t stand him. He was so no so I, ha ha ha. Now come on, what was I supposed to do? He was out of town and his two friends were so fine.” You must hate Ariana!

Candle In The Wind is such a terrible representation of 1997, at least musically, maybe not for the cultural context.
Tie A Ribbon was cute, should’ve stayed a bit longer.
Breathe was well performed in my opinion, but yeah it’s a weird #1 for 2000.
Joy to the World & Silly Love Songs both got underranked in my opinion.
(edited because I somehow confused the queen with a princess)

I thought I might be the highest rank for Silly Love Songs. I remember it well from my childhood since I listened to Wings along with other Beatles related songs and I enjoy it as much as I used to.

Gah I did some looking through this rankdown last night but wasn't able to finish commenting. So here are my thoughts:
66. Last Night - Morgan Wallen (2023) (55): Ouch at a #1 being out already. That's always sad to see. :( But oh dang I'm not surprised to see this out early but even I didn't think this would be the first one out. I do like this song but I still don't get how this managed to be a year-end #1, especially over songs like "Kill Bill," "Flowers" and "Anti-Hero," just to name a few. It is one of my favorites from Morgan but even then I still prefer other songs from most other people. Not surprised to see so many ranks in the 60s but not upset about it either.
65. Tonight's the Night (Gonna be Alright) - Rod Stewart (1977) (58): This was one of the many pre-80s songs I wasn't really familiar with in this rankdown. This is alright but it didn't really do much for me. Just kinda there and boring to me. I do prefer a number of his other songs over this one. But maybe it could grow on me with more listens.
64. The Battle of New Orleans - Johnny Horton (1959) (65): Okay a much better reveal for me, as this song was in my Bottom 2. I don't know if I heard this song before. I may have but I didn't like nor could get into this song at all. Just not for me so no complaints with this ranking.
63. (Everything I Do) I Do it For You - Bryan Adams (1991) (25): Ugh nooo, this is the first rough/tough loss for me. I do love this song and am sad to see it show up. But sadly not surprised as I know it's not well liked or cared for on here. I do think this is a stunning, moving and beautiful song. Really enjoy Bryan's vocals and the heartfelt delivery he gives here. This is my favorite song of his too. 3rd highest SD isn't too surprising. Oooof, ouch at 9 #66 rankings. That's rough. But even with that happening, I'm glad that this was able to avoid the Bottom 3.
62. Shape of You - Ed Sheeran (2017) (11): Ughh I lovee this song a ton and it's such a jam for me! But I also knew and expected this not to rank too highly. Sad to see this not even make the Top 60 but again, I am not surprised. But this song is just so fun, catchy and always makes me happy whenever I hear this. 7th highest SD isn't too surprising for this either.
61. Sugar Shack - Jimmy Glimer & The Fireballs (1963) (60): This was a new one to me, I think. lol I thought this was a fairly cute and fun song, but also quite cheesy. But it fits in well and has a good sound for a song from the 60s. I could see this growing on me with more listens. And listening to it again now, I kinda wish I ranked this above the Rod Stewart song lol. And dang it just one spot away from a perfect ranking - ugh soo close. This having the lowest SD isn't too surprising as I don't see this as a song anyone would be too passionate about.
60. Look Away - Chicago (1989) (57): Lol yeah I agree with poopshark in that this song isn't really that recognizable to me. Definitely surprised in finding out that this hit #1 as I don't really remember or know this song that well. And also didn't really care much for this. It's alright but Chicago's songs don't really do much for me in general.
59. Heat Waves - Glass Animals (2022) (50): Another one of my lesser favorite amongst the more current/modern songs here. I do really like this and think it's a cool and fun enough song. But It's also a song that I have never really been that huge on either. But it's catchy and cool.
58. Boom Boom Pow - The Black Eyed Peas (2009) (28): Okay objectively, I get that this isn't a great song but I still really love this song and think it's such a fun and catchy jam. Love the music production and the overall feel of this and what everyone brings to the song. I'm not surprised this ended up so low but I'm glad it wasn't lower.
57. Love Yourself - Justin Bieber (2016) (46): This song hitting #1 for its year-end list has always surprised me. It's a really good and pretty song from Justin. Not one of my very favorites from him but still a nice song.
56. Happy - Pharrell Williams (2014) (15): Ughh noooo, I am not shocked or surprised but really disappointed to see this song out so soon. Lovee this song so much. It's another one of those songs that just makes me happy and smile whenever I hear this. It's so fun, catchy and has such a feel good vibe to it.
55. Love Will Keep Us Together - Captain & Tennille (1975) (44): Aww this is a really cute and fun song. I remember being introduced to this on American Idol when Trenyce sang it. I loved her version of it and then ended up really liking the original version. Such a cute and enjoyable song. It was one of the older songs that really clicked with me.
54. Stranger on the Shore - Acker Bilk (1962) (63): Oooh nice, finally pleased to lose another song that I ranked in the 60s, haha. Wasn't familiar with this song but also not really a fan of it either.
53. That's What Friends Are For - Dionne Warwick & Friends (1986) (37): Aww I really liked this song, though it's not a song I would normally listen to. But it's nice, easygoing and very lovely. I'm not surprised this didn't rank too highly and has such a high SD, being the 9th highest SD.
52. Wooly Bully - Sam The Sham & The Pharaohs (1965) (61): Okay yayy also good with another low ranking song showing up. I didn't know this beforehand but it's another song that didn't do much and I didn't really care for.
51. God's Plan - Drake (2018) (38): Oh dang I was initially sad seeing this show up but then I saw that I only ranked this at #38, lol. Anywho, I do really like/kinda love this song from Drake but it depends on my mood, I guess. I actually preferred some of his other 2018 releases like "Nice for What" and "In My Feelings" over this one. But it's a cool song with a cool vibe to it.

Candle In The Wind is such a terrible representation of 1997. Ah yes 1997, the year of the influential genre of queen death tributes. What are you talking about? The sudden death of Princess (not Queen) Diana was one of the biggest world events of 1997. Candle In The Wind sold 3.5 million copies first week in America and still managed to sell another million the next week. Frankly, CITW was one of the few times the Year-End #1 showed the pop music world linked in a literal way with the broader cultural/societal zeitgeist.

The 70s was a good decade for the charts (especially 1976) but the number ones are pedestrian.

Okay I got time to catch up on the rest so might as well do so now: 50. Bad Day - Daniel Powter (2006) (36): I'm kinda surprised this song made it this high as I thought/felt this wasn't a well liked song here. But I do really like this. It's a pretty and touching song. And hahaha yeah it does give me flashbacks to American Idol when they would use this for people's eliminations, lol. But this was also a year where I preferred several other songs over this to be the #1 of its year. 49. Macarena - Los Del Rio & Bayside Boys (1996) (18): This is such an iconic fun jam! This is so fun, catchy and of course it was absolutely everywhere in 1996 and even then some. How could you avoid this song and that dance? This is another one of those songs that just makes me happy whenever I hear it. Not surprised this didn't rank too highly or have the 4th highest SD as I know this song is polarizing. Though actually, I expected this to do much worse than it did. 48. Volare (Nel Blu Dipinto Di Blu) - Domenico Modugno (1958) (66): Oooh lol yesss, *high fives 312999 on us having the same #66* Yeah this is another one of the songs I didn't know and wasn't familiar with but it just bored me and I didn't like this at all, sadly. Definitely not ageist or oldist (?) to these older songs but just didn't connect with this. 47. Tie a Yellow Ribbon Round the Ole Oak Tree - Tony Orlando & Dawn (1973) (64): Ooh nice yayy another song in my 60s is out now. This is another song I didn't know but also didn't care for while listening to it. Fine with this showing up now. 46. The Way We Were - Barbra Streisand (1974) (56): No denying that Barbra sings this song beautifully and amazingly but yeah this is also quite a boring song. I was never really big or cared much for this song but the vocal makes me appreciate it a little more and helped me bump this up a few spots. 45. Candle in the Wind - Elton John (1997) (35): This is a really gorgeous, moving and touching song from Elton. I do really enjoy his vocal and emotional connection here. It's a lovely song and a nice tribute to Princess Diana. Not a huge favorite of mine but it's always been a song I appreciate. 44. Joy to the World - Three Dog Night (1971) (43): Dangg it, this couldn't have made it an extra spot higher so I could have had a perfect rank here? Ugh such a bummer, lmao. Anywho, this is a really fun and entertaining song. Another song I feel like I was introduced to from American Idol. 43. Breathe - Faith Hill (2000) (22): Aww sad to see this show up. This is a really gorgeous and stunning power ballad from Faith Hill. This stands out as my favorite song from Faith HIll and also amongst one of my all-time favorite country songs too. It's just so good and powerful! 42. Silly Love Songs - Wings (1976) (62): Oooh yay another song from my 60s that's out now. Sadly, this was another song that I just didn't care for nor did anything for me. 41. To Sir With Love - Lulu (1967) (40): This is a really lovely song and a song that I've always liked and enjoyed. It's one of those older songs that I really liked and connected with. But dangg, ugh another song I was off by just one ranking.... of course this happens to me yet again. Hmmm a 29th ranking with a 15.53 score isn't too terrible for me and my standards, haha.

This is kinda where my age starts to show, not really having a strong knowledge of world events in 1997, where I didn’t realize the cultural impact (wasn’t alive after all) & never really being into the royal family (just isn’t my thing, especially once Meghan got involved). I do understand the cultural implications, and maybe I shouldn’t discount those, but sonically, it definitely does not represent 1997

I definitely prefer the original version of Candle In The Wind which was dedicated to Marilyn Monroe who had already passed away. I have no reason to come back to the 1997 version aside from learning about the responses to Princess Diana's death.

There's no song on this list that I respect more than Candle In The Wind, but I couldn't put it any higher than #10 since it's not a song I'd really go back to, unlike the nine songs above it.

40. Tossin' & Turnin' - Bobby Lewis (1961) Points: 1,463 (28 below #41) Standard Deviation: 13.61727316 (#22 LOWEST) 1960s placement: 6/10
A great song that should be a bit higher, and much respect to Bobby Lewis for getting a YE #1 before the Civil Rights Act, that must've been huge
