Posty/Morgan and Sabrina didn't do anything to get a #1 (at least to my knowledge), it's really refreshing to see, especially Sabrina since it'd be her first #1. I had some help extra posty remix is now out, and the song is discounted so...

10 years ago, Sabrina Annlynn Carpenter, actress of Girl Meets World, released her debut single as a cutesy Disney pop singer
Now, 10 years later, after four albums, three of which did mediocre numbers, after struggling to even chart for most of her time as a singer, that same girl is on top of the world with not one but two global smashes at the same time
Hope she soaks this in. She's earned it

Radio programmers are out of touch these days. It's like they want to die out. i brought this up in the CHR thread but the disconnect never gets any less jarring lmao. “stick season” and renee rap’s “not my fault” peaked one position apart at pop radio. stick season is still in the top 20 on the hot 100 in its’ 36th week. not my fault didn’t even make the chart!!! then you have songs like “i like the way you kiss me” that can barely crack the top 40 on that format despite huge streaming numbers at one point(enough for a #12 peak on the H100) or the most egregious example in recent memory, “i remember everything”–currently top 5 on the year-end for 2024 despite barely cracking the top 30 at pop AND country the medium is going to die out because it has no interest in appealing to the consumers that are currently driving/will continue to drive the voluntary consumption methods

I ask because I don't know why people assume that because something is streaming well then radio should play it. Is it possible the audiences aren't the same? I'm only one person, but I never listen to radio so people shouldn't use what I stream as a basis for what to play on the radio.

Songs that only do well at one format traditionally don't get very high on the hot 100 unless you're an artist like zach bryan who clearly doesn't need radio. I agree there is sometimes a disconnect with radio slow to give up on older songs and add new songs to their playlists but I don't think radio is in trouble

I don’t think casual music listeners get sick of songs like we music lovers do. I feel like radio listeners now a days aren’t looking for the latest hits, but what they’re more familiar with??? I haven’t listened to the radio by myself in years but, have a few friends who still do and it seems like all they do is switch stations until they’re familiar with a song.

Yeah but the main complaint of radio is they’re playing the same songs 100 times a day. The familiarity can get extremely repetitive thus leading to a decrease in audience. There is no reason Lose Control should be having the most plays currently than Espresso and Million Dollar Baby. Radio programmers are run by out of touch middle aged men who are reluctant to play newer songs and spam the older songs to oblivion.

Lose control has dropped quickly on Pop and is now behind espresso. The issue is espresso has little airplay outside of top 40 while lose control is on 8 formats

US Spotify - 06/12/247( -1) Tommy Richman - MILLION DOLLAR BABY 2,143,501 ( -1,113,518) (-34%) This seems unusual. Songs generally lose this many streams during their first week out or right after.

Maybe the autoplay feature thing everyone was speculating about is actually happening with certain songs.

It's funny, I tuned into my local pop station last week since I haven't listened to it since the end of last year, and I heard Flowers, Calm Down, and Lovin On Me all in a row. It was crazy, like those were the exact same songs getting heavy airplay when I tuned in last December, why am I still hearing these ancient songs, especially since there's been a lot of hits this year.
I think the bigger issue than just keeping songs in the Top 10 for a long time is the recurrent airplay, pop stations will play the previous years hits well into mid-year, and then they'll soften on it. But there's no reason to be keeping tracks like Sure Thing and Die For You in heavy rotation this long after the songs had went recurrent, it almost feels like pop has turned into AC.

Its likely auto-play related... but im starting to suspect something sketchy is going on past that - I have no evidence, its mostly just a hunch. I'm trying to figure out why this has been such a problem seemingly everywhere in the country. Do radio directors/djs skew old in general?

Plus, Post Malone's "I Had Some Help," featuring Morgan Wallen, pushes to No. 2.
Kenny Chesney banks his record-padding 33rd No. 1 on Billboard’s Country Airplay chart as “Take Her Home” hikes from No. 4 to the summit on the survey dated June 22. It increased by 13% to 30.1 million audience impressions June 7-13, according to Luminate.
Since Country Airplay launched in January 1990, Tim McGraw ranks second with 29 No. 1s, followed by Blake Shelton with 28.
“Home” was written by Zach Abend, Hardy and Hunter Phelps. Chesney co-produced it with Buddy Cannon. It’s the lead single from Chesney’s album Born, which arrived at its No. 5 high on Top Country Albums in April, becoming his 22nd top 10.
Chesney notches his first Country Airplay No. 1 since Kelsea Ballerini’s “Half of My Hometown,” on which he’s featured, led for a week in March 2022. The Knoxville, Tenn., native first reigned with “She’s Got It All,” his ninth of 97 entries, for three frames beginning in August 1997. He also shares the record with George Strait for the most top 10s – 61 – dating to his first, “Fall in Love” (No. 6, July 1995). McGraw places third with 60; he ranks at No. 21 with his latest single, “One Bad Habit” (9.1 million, up 4%).
Chesney is currently on tour, set to make his next stop at Soldier Field in Chicago on June 15 with special guests Zac Brown Band, Megan Moroney and Uncle Kracker.
Higher ‘Help’
Post Malone’s “I Had Some Help,” featuring Morgan Wallen, ascends 3-2 on Country Airplay in just its sixth week on the survey (29.7 million, up 10%). The collaboration wraps the speediest trip to the top two since Garth Brooks’ “More Than a Memory” launched at No. 1 in September 2007, becoming the only hit in the survey’s 34-year history to debut at the summit.
“Help” also pushes 8-7 on Adult Pop Airplay and 10-8 on Pop Airplay. It has spent four weeks running at No. 1 on the multimetric Billboard Hot 100 and Hot Country Songs charts (through the lists dated June 15).

Just found this image, when you look at the "time spent listening" column you can see that radio listeners are 20 years older. Radio and streaming simply have different audiences with different tastes. Older listeners seem to prefer familiar over fresh.

Welp, there goes the dream of having a diverse mix of #1’s this summer. Sabrina topped every metric this week with giant numbers (except of course corporate radio) and it still wasn’t enough.
