How is Please x3 not #1? Airplay? If she stream atleast 5.5M on the s 1st and s 2nd day she might get it but yeah lack of airplay also Also, I don't think it sold that much during the week. Even though song sales don't end up accounting for much in terms of weekly Hot 100 points.
Regarding radio airplay it doesn't seem to have gotten much either. Especially, with potentially two songs in the top 10 of Radio Songs.

It's funny in hindsight to see that people thought this wouldn't be a smash but clearly the world wanted it: Please Please Please debuting with a monstrous 29.6M, Sabrina's second #1 this year. And funnily enough, Espresso rebounds back to #2 with a 31% increase in streams. No matter what you think of her or her music, it is rather inspiring to see that after 10 years of working, Sabrina is on top with two huge hits. It's also funny to think that had Sabrina not smashed as hard as she did, Billie would've easily had the #1 as BIRDS OF A FEATHER continued its rise with a 12.05%. These three songs brought I Had Some Help back down to #4 as it saw a 12.42% decrease in streams. MILLION DOLLAR BABY on the other hand had an erratic week, going all over the place with big decreases and increases, ultimately round up to a 18.99% drop in streams. One song that did stabilize was A Bar Song (Tipsy) which was up 6.1% even with its album on its second week. Houdini thankfully can't share the same fate as it was down 22.47%. U My Everything fell by 11.06% and Get It Sexy dropped 10.54%. BAND4BAND also saw it's momentum stall a bit with a 18.08% decrease. In album news, Billie had a ridiculously strong hold at week four, only dropping 5.17%! Ariana's the boy is mine re-entered the charts with 3.1M off the back of the music video. We also saw Gracie Abrams with her best debut to date with her upbeat Close to You, Koe Wetzel and Jessie Murph's duet debut in the Top 50 as Wetzel's best debut to date, Zach Bryan's second single shockingly underperform, and we actually got three songs from BRAT to chart. Most exciting however was Chappell Roan's continued momentum with three new songs in Femininomenon, My Kink is Karma, and Pink Pony Club debuting in the lower half of the charts as HOT TO gO! and Red Wine Supernova reached new peaks. She actually managed to get 6 songs from her album to chart which is really cool to see. Finally in gains, Nonsense and Feather rebounded off of Sabrina's hype, and Nasty continued its viral momentum. Notable Gains:Espresso - 31% Nonsense - 25.19% Nasty - 23.4% Wind Up Missin' You - 21.91% Like Crazy - 18.5% HOT TO GO! - 14.37% Sweet Dreams - 14.01% Feather - 13.67% Red Wine Supernova - 12.58% BIRDS OF A FEATHER - 12.05% You Make My Dreams (Come True) - 10.83% Cowgirls - 10.12% You Should Probably Leave - 9.82%

All of these songs have had strong recurrent airplay back home. Re 1989: Donna Summer reaches the peak position for this huge comeback song for her, with the classic SAW sound. It became her biggest hit in the UK since 1979. It’d be her last top 40 in the US, unfortunately. (In another world, she would have had at least one more big hit with I Will Go With You in 1999… I guess the fact that it made the hot 100 was already a success.) Also we see Natalia Cole climbing up with what’d be her last top 10. She’d have another top 15 in 1991 with Unforgettable, a duet with her late father Nat King Cole. Re 1994: I was SO PISSED that Madonna had to yet again be stopped at #2 and miss what could’ve been a clear #1 had the timing worked a tiny bit better. A great return to hit form after the unfortunate underperformances of the Erotica singles. (A classic that I wish M would perform again live once more.)

still wild to me that pearl jam’s biggest chart hit in the US was a cover of a 1960’s love ballad. great cover, nonetheless.

still wild to me that pearl jam’s biggest chart hit in the US was a cover of a 1960’s love ballad. great cover, nonetheless. Almost none of their songs were released as singles and ineligible to chart. Better man would've certainly been a top 10 in 95 But yeah last kiss doing so well was kind of a shocker at the time

"I Had Some Help" reigns as "Please Please Please" debuts at No. 2 and "Espresso" hits a new No. 3 high. Plus, Billie Eilish's "Birds of a Feather" reaches the top 10.
Post Malone’s “I Had Some Help,” featuring Morgan Wallen, logs a fifth total and consecutive week at No. 1 on the Billboard Hot 100 songs chart. The song, Post Malone’s sixth leader and Wallen’s second, is the first to notch at least its first five weeks on the chart at No. 1 since Miley Cyrus’ “Flowers” spent its first six weeks on the survey at the summit in January-March 2023.
“I Had Some Help” is also the first hit to spend five consecutive weeks at No. 1 on the Hot 100 overall in nearly a year, since Wallen’s “Last Night” linked 10 straight frames on top, of 16 total, in May-July 2023. The former also ties for the most weeks in the lead in 2024, matching Jack Harlow’s “Lovin On Me” (which tallied five of its six weeks at No. 1 this year).
Meanwhile, Sabrina Carpenter boasts two songs in the Hot 100’s top three – marking her first appearances in the tier – as “Please Please Please” debuts at No. 2 and “Espresso” ascends to a new No. 3 best. With the tracks, which introduce her album Short n’ Sweet, due Aug. 23, she becomes the first soloist – and just the second act overall, after The Beatles 60 years ago – in the Hot 100’s history to place two initial top-three hits with no other billed artists in the region simultaneously. Plus, Hozier earns his first No. 1 on the Radio Songs chart with “Too Sweet,” at No. 7 on the Hot 100 after reaching No. 1, and Billie Eilish’s “Birds of a Feather” makes an 11-9 flight on the Hot 100, becoming her seventh top 10. The Hot 100 blends all-genre U.S. streaming (official audio and official video), radio airplay and sales data, the lattermost metric reflecting purchases of physical singles and digital tracks from full-service digital music retailers; digital singles sales from direct-to-consumer (D2C) sites are excluded from chart calculations. All charts (dated June 22, 2024) will update on Billboard.com tomorrow, June 18. For all chart news, you can follow billboard and billboardcharts on both X, formerly known as Twitter, and Instagram. Luminate, the independent data provider to the Billboard charts, completes a thorough review of all data submissions used in compiling the weekly chart rankings. Luminate reviews and authenticates data. In partnership with Billboard, data deemed suspicious or unverifiable is removed, using established criteria, before final chart calculations are made and published. Below is a rundown of the latest Hot 100’s top 10.
‘Help’ Hits Five Weeks at No. 1
“I Had Some Help,” on Mercury/Republic/Big Loud, adds a fifth week at No. 1 on the Hot 100, with 66.2 million radio airplay audience impressions (up 12%), 43.3 million official streams (down 5%) and 12,000 sold (down 12%) in the U.S. June 7-13.
The collaboration keeps at No. 2 after it led the Streaming Songs chart in its debut week; rises 5-3 on Radio Songs (as it pushes 3-2 on the Country Airplay chart, 8-7 on Adult Pop Airplay and 10-8 on Pop Airplay); and dips 3-4 after two weeks atop Digital Song Sales.
“I Had Some Help” concurrently sizzles atop the multimetric Songs of the Summer chart for a third week and Hot Country Songs for a fifth frame. Carpenter Joins The Beatles for Hot 100 History
Sabrina Carpenter scores two songs in the Hot 100’s top three – marking her first appearances in the region – as “Please Please Please” debuts at No. 2, becoming her second top 10, and “Espresso” rises to a new No. 3 best.
“Please Please Please” opens with 50.3 million streams, 533,000 in airplay audience and 7,000 sold in its first week. “Espresso” drew 47.7 million in radio reach (up 18%), 38.4 million streams (up 27%) and 28,000 in sales (up 366%) in the same span. The former was released June 7, alongside its official video starring Carpenter’s boyfriend, Oscar-nominated Saltburn star Barry Keoghan. She performed both songs during her set at New York’s Gov Ball music festival the following day. The tracks introduce her album Short n’ Sweet, due Aug. 23.
Making history, Carpenter is the first soloist – and just the second act overall after The Beatles, 60 years ago – in the Hot 100’s nearly 66-year history to place two initial top-three hits with no other billed artists in the region simultaneously. Here’s a recap of their achievements:
Sabrina Carpenter: “Please Please Please” & “Espresso,” June 22, 2024 The Beatles: “I Want To Hold Your Hand” & “She Loves You,” Feb. 15, 22, 29, March 7, 14, 21 & 28, 1964
(Akon, DaBaby, DJ Khaled, Iggy Azalea, Ludacris and Macklemore & Ryan Lewis have also charted their first two top-three Hot 100 hits in the bracket simultaneously, although not with pairs of songs without other billed artists.)
“Please Please Please” concurrently launches as Carpenter’s first Streaming Songs No. 1 and her second Digital Song Sales top 10 (No. 7), while “Espresso” wins the Hot 100’s top Streaming and Sales Gainer awards.
Hozier Rules Radio
Hozier’s “Too Sweet” holds at No. 7 on the Hot 100, following a week at No. 1 in April, as it becomes his first No. 1 on the Radio Songs chart (70.5 million in audience, up 7%). In his lone prior Radio Songs appearance, he peaked at No. 3 with his breakthrough hit “Take Me to Church” in 2015. “Too Sweet” also becomes his initial No. 1 on Pop Airplay.
The track concurrently leads the multimetric Hot Rock & Alternative Songs chart for a 10th week and Hot Rock Songs and Hot Alternative Songs for an 11th week each.
Eilish’s Seventh Top 10
Billie Eilish’s “Birds of a Feather” ascends 11-9 on the Hot 100. It drew 30.7 million streams (up 8%) and 3.2 million in airplay audience (up 221%) and sold 3,000 (up 9%) in the tracking week.
The singer-songwriter adds her seventh Hot 100 top 10, and second from her new album, Hit Me Hard and Soft, following the No. 5-peaking “Lunch.”
Here’s a rundown of Eilish’s Hot 100 career top 10s:
No. 9 peak (to date), June 22, 2024, “Birds of a Feather” No. 5, June 1, 2024, “Lunch” No. 10, May 15, 2021, “Your Power” No. 2, Nov. 28, 2020, “Therefore I Am” No. 6, Aug. 15, 2020, “My Future” No. 8, Nov. 30, 2019, “Everything I Wanted” No. 1, one week, Aug. 24, 2019, “Bad Guy”
Shaboozey Leads Rest of Top 10
Elsewhere in the Hot 100’s top 10, Shaboozey’s “A Bar Song (Tipsy)” holds at No. 4 after reaching No. 3.
Tommy Richman’s “Million Dollar Baby” slips 3-5 on the Hot 100, after hitting No. 2, as it takes top Airplay Gainer honors (46.1 million in audience, up 31%) for a second week. It leads the multimetric Hot R&B Songs chart for a seventh week and rebounds for a second week at No. 1 on Hot R&B/Hip-Hop Songs.
Kendrick Lamar’s “Not Like Us” descends 5-6 on the Hot 100, after led in its debut week in May, and returns to the top of the multimetric Hot Rap Songs chart for a fifth week in charge.
Rounding out the Hot 100’s top 10, Eminem’s “Houdini” falls to No. 8 a week after it debuted at No. 2 and Teddy Swims’ “Lose Control,” which led for a week in March, drops 8-10.

I’m more intrigued by Sabrina Carpenter having two top 3 hits when she didn’t have a top 50 hit prior to this year and doing this with no features.

still wild to me that pearl jam’s biggest chart hit in the US was a cover of a 1960’s love ballad. great cover, nonetheless. Almost none of their songs were released as singles and ineligible to chart. Better man would've certainly been a top 10 in 95 But yeah last kiss doing so well was kind of a shocker at the time After their first two albums, Pearl Jam did release physical singles ahead of their albums, which is why "Spin the Black Circle" and "I Got Id" are their third and second highest charting Hot 100 hits, respectively. Plus they started to release CD singles of tracks from the first two albums, which caused "Jeremy" to hit #79 belatedly in 1995, and songs like "Even Flow" and "Alive" to hit the Bubbling Under chart. But yeah, it is weird that "Last Kiss" is by far their biggest Hot 100 chart hit. It was on a charity album, radio started playing it, and then by popular demand a single was released. Would have been cool if it could have stolen a week from J-Lo.

yeah does anyone know how sabrina's career skyrocketed out of nowhere like this ?? i reckon nonsense being a minor hit helped build some goodwill for her and espresso does *sound* like a hit so i'm not necessarily shocked that it's doing well but i am surprised it blew up out of the gate in the way it did (and that she scored an even higher debut while espresso is still very much climbing). usually when an artist blows up in this way like billie eilish, sza, zach bryan, etc have in the last 5 years it feels more organic but this just. doesn't personally make much sense to me
no disrespect to sabrina -- i do like nonsense and espresso but it just feels a bit artificial to me (not to say the music industry as a whole isn't built on artificiality)

Is this really out of nowhere? I feel like Sabrina's success has been building. She obviously had a fan base from her Nickelodeon days, and then her name got out there even more with the Olivia Rodrigo stuff. She got her first Hot 100 entry in 2021 with "Skin." She then had some other songs chart, including "Nonsense" going top 10 at Top 40. Then last year into this year "Feather" became her biggest hit yet, just missing the top 10 of the Hot 100 and going #1 on Top 40. "Espresso" then got a solid start and built from there, which set up "Please Please Please." Like, how has that not all been a fairly organic rise?

Sabrina started as a Disney star in a show called Girl Meets World. She released her first album in 2016. Her success didn’t come out of nowhere, it was slowly building up. Plus, she had several viral moments when she opened for Taylor Swift at her Eras Tour, which generated hype around her.

Didn't she perform on some of the dates for Taylor's Era Tour? I'm sure that has helped.

Didn't she perform on some of the dates for Taylor's Era Tour? I'm sure that has helped. Yeah. She was the only opener for over 30 shows. She also smartly tailored her act to go on viral on swifttok. she would change her outro to nonsense each date which played into the pre-existing swiftie culture of livestreaming and watching the whole concert. So that boosted her alot on tiktok. she then released expresso the week after her opening dates concluded and right before her coachella spot where she promoted it. sabrina's is a classical campaign to break a new pop star. her label isn't hiding the push since it's nothing to be ashamed about.
