And I think it’s Red Wine Supernova lolol, but this just proves how many huge smashes this album has imo. On that note, do we know why/how she started to take off with GLB? Like I for example had absolutely zero clue of who she was before and had never heard her name. If I had been aware of the album when it released and listened, I would have been instantly obsessed with it. And I think it’s clear many others in the gp would have too based on how it’s doing now that people are checking it out after hearing GLB. So why then is GLB what broke her through? I will maintain it’s not the most hit potential song by any stretch out of several options on the album. I know I just suddenly started hearing about her/the song kinda out of nowhere. Just find it rather odd how her album release and all the mv she made for it couldn’t drum up any interest in her, but GLB could without really any promo. Also very interested in the answer to this question! If there even is one of course.

Well I would disagree in saying that GLB is the biggest hit potential she has had. That melody is just sticky. You may disagree but it's clear with these long last streaming numbers, this is THE song. Timing was good for it too though, her name had been building and building on the internet after the release of her album and then opening for Olivia Rodrigo. She dropped this song at the right time to make a splash and obviously, it connected.

It was a perfect storm of multiple things coming together at once. She’d been building hype since the album release with the GUTS tour then Midwest Princess tour - April was a breakout month with Tiny Desk and then Coachella where she debuted GLB. Basically GLB was released right as Chappell’s profile was surging, and it rode that wave. It didn’t hurt that its pop perfection and her most radio friendly song.

Timing was good for it too though, her name had been building and building on the internet after the release of her album and then opening for Olivia Rodrigo. She dropped this song at the right time to make a splash and obviously, it connected. Oh I forgot about opening for Olivia, yeah I’m sure that helped gain momentum for her a lot. I don’t think it’s really fair to say GLB is obviously the biggest hit she’s recorded when it’s still the only one that’s had much of a chance at that so far (and now HTG which is still in its climb). Obviously GLB is the song that broke her through, not disputing that. But as I had asked about, it sounds like several things had been building a lot more momentum for her by then opposed to when the album released and her following was still extremely niche. I will maintain there are bigger hits on MP with the right storm of factors. The only problem potentially is the album’s age and knowing that Chappell has no interest/bandwidth in playing the promo game for these songs.

After all is said and done, I honestly can see this being bigger than Good Luck Babe. I just wish the timing for her whole breakout was like a solid 3 months earlier. I think summer proper for its peak run could have boosted this to #1 on the h100. It’s obviously such a perfect summer song. I think #1 would be very hard now, but I can definitely still see this ultimately being a little bigger than GLB on radio.

Yeah... IDK what radio's doing. It is really fouling things up the way they're giving major spins back to previous #1's instead of letting them leave. [29080489820984209823098230982398089080980934]

Do we think the fact that lyrically this song is as summer as it gets could be hurting it now that summer is officially over? The slowdown is a bit odd. I don’t see this fitting in at all once we get to Xmas proper season in December, so I really hope radio isn’t going to drag their feet here. Need that #1 by November.
With all of that said, this would never have been my first choice for a follow up to GLB from the album, but I realize streaming forced their hand.

I get your point, but it doesn’t feel like a summer song per se, and its really anout how a romance/person is making her hot and bothered… :)

The idea that songs only can do well on the season they're suppossedly about should have died when Cruel Summer smashed for an entire year uninterrupted.
This is honestly been chugging along for a while. I know I personally am kinda done with it. It was never going to match GLB in the numbers department. She needs a new single in a few weeks.

But they need to move on with her next project after Grammy voting ends.

As much as I want Pink Pony Club or Red Wine Supernova as singles, I would love something down tempo (if it’s going to be the last single this era), I don’t want her getting stuck with having to do upbeat songs. Casual or My Kink Is Karma. Also, who knows if she’ll strike lightening again with another project, so it might be wise to release what’s good from this album first. It’s not like there’s a rush, imo.
