1-2-3-4-13 and I could've had a perfect top-5 because I knew y'all would favor my 13 but I had to give the underdog some love.
My prediction:
1. Try a Little Tenderness 2. Green Onions 3. Hold On! I'm Comin' 4. Whatcha See Is Whatcha Get 5. Walk on By
I can see Pulse being partial towards the rap-sampled vs. the instrumental but all of these are valid winners. Rooting for mine!

5. Green Onions - Booker T. & The MG'sThis band was formed by keyboardist Booker T. Jones (who was still in high school at the time), Steve Cropper on guitar, Lewie Steinberg on bass, and Al Jackson Jr. on drums. All of them at one time or another were members of The Mar-Keys. While in the studio in 1962 they played around with an organ riff. Stax owner Jim Stewart liked what he heard and recorded it, and the track was later titled "Behave Yourself". They then recorded another track with another Jones riff, and the result of that was "Green Onions". Stewart wanted to release "Behave Yourself" as the A-side with "Green Onions" as the B-side, but the reception to the B-side was so overwhelming that it was re-released as the A-side. "Green Onions" peaked at #3 on the Hot 100 and was the first Stax single to top the soul chart, and has since been used in numerous movies, commercials, and TV shows. Soon after the song's success, Booker T. & The MG's became the premier house band at Stax, backing up artists like Otis Redding, Sam & Dave, Johnnie Taylor, and Wilson Pickett. Lewie Steinberg stayed with the band until 1965, when he was replaced by Donald "Duck" Dunn. Al Jackson Jr. was murdered in 1975, with the suspected shooter being killed by police the following year. Steinberg passed away from cancer in 2016. Dunn passed away in 2012 following two shows in Tokyo. After his death the band went their separate ways. 4. Whatcha See Is Whatcha Get - The DramaticsThe Dramatics were formed in Detroit by Ron Banks, Larry Demps, Elbert Wilkins, Rod Davis, and Larry Reed, and were originally called The Sensations. They recorded a few singles and managed to score a minor hit. Following an incident at the Algiers Motel in 1967 Davis and Reed left the group, and were replaced by William "Wee Gee" Howard and Willie Ford. Their breakthrough came with the release of "Whatcha See Is Whatcha Get" in 1971. Written and produced by Tony Hester, it peaked at #3 on the soul chart and #9 on the Hot 100. It's been covered and sampled numerous times since. Apologies to SHOOTER... 2. Try a Little Tenderness - Otis ReddingWritten by Jimmy Campbell, Reg Connelly, and Harry Woods, "Try a Little Tenderness" was first recorded by the Ray Noble Orchestra in 1932. Other versions include those by Bing Crosby and Frank Sinatra. A new interpretation was recorded by Otis Redding in 1966. Starting off slow and building to an energetic finish, it peaked at #4 on the soul chart and #25 on the Hot 100, and is considered the definitive version. It was inducted into the Grammy Hall Of Fame, and Jay-Z and Kanye West sampled it in their hit "Otis". And now the #1...almost everyone had this inside their Top 10! 1. Hold On! I'm Comin' - Sam & DaveFormed in Miami, Sam Moore and Dave Prater were known for their gospel-infused live performances and helped inspire numerous artists. They signed with Atlantic Records in 1964, and were loaned to Stax the following year. Their 1966 single "Hold On! I'm Comin'", written by Isaac Hayes and David Porter, topped the soul chart and peaked at #21 on the Hot 100. This million-selling single has been covered numerous times and has earned its status as a soul classic. Thanks Soulsista for another great rankdown. While I was disappointed not to see my #1 (William Bell) go higher than 15, the top 10 was solid. Linda Lyndell's "What A Man" was the big discovery for me. Very strong song, it is sad to hear that she got chased out of her recording career. Looking forward to the next one.
