Is Camila Cabello this generations' Nickelback?

During the 2000s, Nickelback faced a lot of criticism from music listeners worldwide for low quality music. Similarly, in recent years, Cabello has dropped low-quality music (as shown in her music reviews) and since faced similar criticism and her vocal abilities have been critiqued for lacking power and technical precision. Some listeners feel her voice can be nasally and inconsistent, especially during live performances. Cabello is universally disliked by those in the music industry for ditching her girls group, Fifth Harmony. 

What do you guys think? Is the hatred deserved or is there a different band/artist that you think of as this generation's Nickelback?

A big part of the 00's Nickelback criticism that eventually became a long standing joke was their appeal to the lowest common denominator bro and how formulaic they were. Not sure to what extent that applies here.

Nickelback got hate for being really generic, but they were also hugely popular for a long time, like more than I think most people realize. Not sure how any of that applies to Camilla.

No Nickelback is actually talented and made a string of lasting hits. Sure his voice is grating but the career they had is impressive.

Camilla isn't even on their level vocally, artistically or career wise and she is one album cycle away from being irrelevant

Camila is hit or miss for me. She has some great songs IMO like Havana, Crying In The Club, Don't Go Yet, as some examples, but she also has some horrible songs like Never Be The Same and Bam Bam.

It's already been acknowledged by the artists themselves, but the answer is The Chainsmokers.

Like Nickelback, their big hits were everywhere. Everyone seemed to enjoy them ... and then, all of a sudden, a switch filipped and we all decided the music was "basic" and it became embarrassing to admit you liked them.

The parallel even runs deeper in that once Nickelback criticism reached its peak, the entire post-grunge sound seemed to disappear from the mainstream. With The Chainsmokers, once they lost favor with the market ... that whole 2010s pop-EDM phase seemed to fade away as well. Even established acts like David Guetta, Zedd, Calvin Harris, etc seemed to lose their "automatic hit" cards.

And just like Nickelback had its famously cringey lines ("what the hell is on Joey's head," "i'll have the quesadilla"), Chainsmokers had that "pow pow p*ssy p*ssy" thing in the 5SOS collab.

I remember that pop-EDM sound declining very suddenly in 2019, with it being completely gone by the end of 2020 (Come And Go in summer 2020 is the last hit I can think of that had a drop, for example). Similarly, Post-Grunge sharply declined in 2009 and was dead by the end of 2010, with the last minor hits from Nickelback (This Afternoon) and Daughtry (Life After You and September) coming that year. I still think Imagine Dragons are the closer Nickelback comparison, but the parallels are interesting nonetheless.

I don’t think she has anything in common with Nickelback. A lot of people may not like Camila’s music, but a lot of people still like things about her such as her looks, her voice, personality, or her musical versatility. So I like the example earlier here that compares her to Jessica Simpson instead. That makes more sense.
