Back in 2020, Dua had a very successful era with Future Nostalgia. She had hit after hit from Don’t Start Now to Levitating. Her first single from RO was Houdini, which didn’t do very bad but it didn’t really skyrocket as expected. After that, her next singles continue to underperform and not do so well on the charts.
She did fairly well with Dance The Night in summer of 2023 and Houdini didn’t deliver the same success. Why is that? Have people become sick of her dance-pop sound?

Just lack of career-highlight singles.
The singles weren't bad, they were her typical formula -- but they weren't remarkable. None of them really left me thinking 'wow this may be in contention for one of her best songs' upon listening.
She should be able to bounce back in the subsequent era/year if she releases better & more instant material.

They thought they didn't need to make the seem effort they had to do to make Future Nostalgia happen and didn't get her out there to promote as much - plus the songs are good but didn't stand out on this current market. "Houdini" is the best bet they had for a hit but they kinda let it thread water for too long and it just didn't pull her usual resurgence a la "Dance the Night" or "Levitating".
