"Promise" was the fourth and final single from their sophomore album J.E. Heartbreak. It was a Top 10 hit on the Hot 100 and broke the record for slowest rise to the top of the R&B chart, hitting #1 in its 22nd week. It was inspired by member Brandon Casey's relationship with former Destiny's Child member LaTavia Roberson.

"Missing You" originally appeared on the soundtrack to Nutty Professor II: The Klumps, and was later released as the lead single to his third album Open Letter. It's his biggest hit, reaching the Top 5 on the Hot 100 and receiving a Grammy nomination for Best Male R&B Vocal Performance.

It was originally recorded by Joe in 2000 as "I'm Missing You" and was on the European version of his album My Name Is Joe.

Daron Jones, Michael Keith, Quinnes "Q" Parker, and Marvin "Slim" Scandrick comprised the Atlanta-based group 112. "It's Over Now" was the lead single from their third album Part III. Produced by Daron, who shared lead with Slim, it was a Top 10 hit on the Hot 100. Contains an interpolation of "White Lines (Don't Do It)" by Grandmaster Flash & Melle Mel, and was itself interpolated in the Ellie Goulding song "We Can't Move To This".

New Orleans rapper Mystikal started his career in the mid '90s, but it wasn't until he signed with Master P's No Limit label in the late '90s that he finally broke through. "Danger (Been So Long)" was the second single from his album Let's Get Ready. Featuring Nivea and produced by The Neptunes, it peaked at #3 on the rap chart and was a Top 20 hit on the Hot 100. John Oliver used it as a running gag during his stint as interim host on The Daily Show and again on his own show Last Week Tonight.

9. Loverboy - Mariah Carey

"Loverboy" was the lead single from the soundtrack to the movie Glitter. The original version features Cameo and was built on a sample of their hit "Candy". Despite only peaking at #31 on the R&B airplay chart, it managed to top the main R&B chart (and #2 on the Hot 100) thanks in large part to the single being priced at 49 cents.

The remix features Ludacris, Da Brat, Shawnna, and Twenty II.



"Loverboy" was originally set to sample Yellow Magic Orchestra's version of "Firecracker", but controversy arose when her ex Tommy Mottola and Jennifer Lopez reportedly stole the idea of using that sample. It was also around this time that Mariah was hospitalized for physical and mental exhaustion.

"Loverboy" with the "Firecracker" sample was released on The Rarities in 2020.
