Independent artists whose music only gets played predominantly at night, on independently-owned radio stations (ie. not owned by iHeartMedia, or Audacy, or Cumulus, or any major corporate media group).

Carol is signed to RedOne's record label, which isn't affiliated with any of the major labels (it might have a distribution deal with one of them I think, but it doesn't fall under any major label's umbrella).

Artists like Alice The G00n, Audriix and Smith are also examples of indie nightcrawlers (although Smith seems to be a special case given her radio performance has greatly exceeded anyone else we would typically consider an indie nightcrawler).

Songs by lesser known/indie artists that pop radio plays primarily in the overnight hours, those crack the top 50 but rarely crack the top 40. Audriix's "I Do", David May and B. Howard's "Liberian Girl", alice the g00n's "In Time" are other examples of indie nightcrawlers currently charting.

Agreed, SMITH in particular feels less like an indie nightcrawler and more like someone who has actual connections in the industry that helps her on the charts.
