1996 Hot 100 Year-End Rankdown (Completed)

Welcome to the 1996 Hot 100 Year-End Rankdown!

This will be the first Hot 100 Year-End Rankdown I will be hosting on Pulse that is not a redo. Once the Eternal Sunshine deluxe releases I will open up the Eternal Sunshine Rankdown, but other than that this will be the only rankdown I will host for a while.

I am also including in this post an announcement. I know I’m about four months early on this, but given that the old rankdowns archive is no longer stickied on this forum and this will be the last big rankdown I host before then, there probably isn’t a better time to announce this than now:

I will be hosting the 2024 Hot 100 Year-End Rankdown! Based on previous rankdowns I’ve hosted, I have basically everything sorted out for that. I will just need to make some amazing graphics, which will be experimented with in this rankdown.

The rankdown will open the day the Year-End is out (which should be in late November) and will close on January 12, 2025, with reveals occurring in mid-to-late January.

Now that that’s out of the way, let’s get started:

What to do:

1) Rank all of the songs based on your preferences, from 1 (your favorite song) to 108 (your least favorite song). All songs must be ranked.

2) PM me (Lukas) your rankings of all of these songs. List the songs from best to worst, so starting from #1 then down to #108. I will let you decide if you want to number your list. If you want to number your list, use the line numbering tool (see the list of links below) to automatically have it done for you.

3) You must stick to the same formatting of the song artists/titles that I’ve listed above. This means, COPY AND PASTE THE LIST ABOVE TO MAKE YOUR RANKINGS. DO NOT TYPE THE SONGS OUT MANUALLY. I reserve the right to ask you to re-do your list if you do not follow this rule. So follow this rule; don’t add more work for me (and you).

4) You can choose to edit your list after you submit, but do not do so excessively. You cannot edit your list once the submission deadline has passed.

5) Rankings are due on September 29, 2024 at 11:59 PM Eastern Daylight Time (UTC-4). The deadline will be extended if necessary.

During the submission period, I will be posting some "extras". These extra songs are not part of the actual rankdown and thus you will not be including them in your rankings. Only the songs listed above are.

I don’t remember but Fantasy won the 90s decade Rankdown, but yes I also did forget about Gangstas Paradise who was 2nd in that Rankdown. Love both songs and will still have them high but will definitely prefer other winners.

This rankdown reminder is also important because there are a few things that are worth mentioning:

1. The Spotify playlist has been updated! I didn't mention this initially because Fire created the playlist just hours after this thread was created, but I am now for full transparency. If you are using the Spotify playlist to listen to the songs make sure it's the same as the one currently in the OP. It has also come to my attention that there is one song in the Year-End that is not available on Spotify. I have provided a YouTube link to that song in the OP. (To prevent having to change Spotify playlists again, I will be creating my own Spotify playlists for my rankdowns from now on).

2. Extras are coming back for this rankdown! I'm returning them because I will be doing them for the 2024 Year-End Rankdown later anyways. If you have any songs you'd like to see as extras, PM me and I will include it! I will indicate you sent it to me unless you request me not to. I am aiming for roughly 50 extras. If I don't get enough extra submissions, I'll come up with the rest of them myself.

3. Unlike in previous rankdowns where I would make a small amount of minor changes from one of my rankdowns to the next, I am making much more and much bigger changes with this rankdown. If you dislike any of the changes I'm making, feel free to let me know and I can consider reverting it.

To be fair I already made some noticeable changes for this rankdown already. Aside from graphics and stats, reveals are probably not changing very much.
