The album just came out but I already feel like the consensus is her hype train has slowed down massively. Taking 2 years for a debut album is a mistake to begin with, but also having 0 growth since your breakthrough is an even bigger mistake.

The Fart song was the last straw for me, there's no talent and no potential there. Even when they added her to a middling song (Karma) she somehow made it worse

You got me curious about how TTH aligns with actual US Spotify positions. Just looking at the top 20 on TTH vs their actual Spotify Daily position:

While most of the top 10 on TTH is also top 10 in actual streams, there are definitely outliers, and then once you get to 11-20, the correlation is pretty much gone entirely. Seems pretty clear that TTH is highly curated and not intended to be literally ordered around streaming rank.

Top Global songs already gets a playlist in case anyone wants to hear it in order. I think TTH is obviously done with a different intention (in this case 360 has been doing it's thing on social media for a while and finally getting some airplay so they are supporting it and if it works they can say they're ahead of the curve and pushed it before it hit the big mainstream numbers).

Or the curators liked BRAT and saw an opportunity to help it.

We're seeing more and more examples of songs rising without TTH in recent years. I honestly think the playlist's impact might be slightly decreasing with time; specially by design, as some songs stay there for ages with no reason and the audience has moved on.

Ice Spice album is alright but i completely get why it'll have minimal chart impact this week. It just makes me wish Riot! would start producing for other people or that she would lean more into the sound of a song like How High.

Some songs that hit #1 on Spotifys TTH don’t resonate with an audience and don’t get high enough streams but 360 makes a little sense since it is currently rising on Spotify, the endorsement of Kamala by Charli, plus the cultural impact of the Brat album.

Seems like after the chaotic spring we had the charts have settled in and now the Top 10 is stagnant again, we need some new releases to shake it up a bit. Crossing my fingers for new Weeknd soon!

It’s the same basis as MTV in its prime (and more or less contemporary radio stations). The most pushed songs isn’t some objective formula or just a copy and paste of most consumed.

The BRAT Summer stuff is so viral at this point it’s a no brainer why she would gain attention from the TTH curators and then get preferential treatment. If it was 20 years ago she would’ve been played all over MTV at the moment regardless of not being high on Hot 100 or having radio play because she’s simply a huge buzzing pop culture moment currently.

Sure, but if you’ve been watching charts and paying attention to TTH for practically years like the people acting surprised at Charli being #1 it really shouldn’t be a surprise at this point how the playlist operates.

This is also akin to when names like Taylor, Ariana, Weeknd, Bieber, etc automatically get their new lead singles at #1 on the playlist first day before there’s actually any data on the song’s performance/reception.

The playlist works as a live snapshot of current pop culture, and for curators those A-list names who are generally consistently the faces of current pop culture should obviously get immediate attention. Just as during MTV’s prime a new video by NSYNC, Britney, Madonna, or MJ is getting instant top rotation upon premiere.

Historically playlists by radios, club DJs, music channels, streaming services etc have always worked like this. It will never be just whatever is charted highest because that’s never been the be-all end-all to current pop culture. Curation is a mix of analyzing many forms of popularity, buzz, and noteworthy aspects.

Just as a new lead single by Taylor, Ariana, Bieber, etc would also likely be #1 immediately on first day before they have actual data on performance/reception. They are faces of current pop culture so it’s an expectation that TTH (or a radio station) would immediately need to be aware and take notice of their new music.

Facts, but #1 and a cover is a bit too much of a push IMO.

While most of the top 10 on TTH is also top 10 in actual streams, there are definitely outliers, and then once you get to 11-20, the correlation is pretty much gone entirely. Seems pretty clear that TTH is highly curated and not intended to be literally ordered around streaming rank.
