Chappellβs speech was cute. She seems like such a genuine person and Iβm glad she got an award.
Edit: and sheβs talented af

I am a bit behind but I just saw the award winner blast in the commercial . but why would they not let Eminem accept an award on stage when he was actually there? Just seems bizarre lol especially for a major genre category ???

Apparently Shawn left after his lol Also, itβs been odd that we havenβt seen Taylor on camera for over an hour. (Unless I missed her recently) Edit: nvm, sheβs still there

Shawn probably left because of Camilla/Sabrina lol
idk it was an okay show but it didn't really feel like anything special for the 40th. Maybe I just anticipated too much. but I was hoping to see more icons/legends from the past

I was a little late to the party since apparently even if you have a cable login AND/OR a Paramount+ account (that costs $10+ a month btw) you still cannot watch the show live unless you're watching it in real time through the actual MTV channel on a television. It is 2024 HOW HAVE THEY NOT SOLVED THIS PROBLEM BY NOW. Same thing with certain iterations of Drag Race. Luckily there was a singular live stream that was super reliable that seemed to permeate Twitter so I was able to join during Katy's medley.
Most memorable performances: Katy, Chappell, Sabrina and Benson.
I'd like to see a little more confidence in Sabrina's live singing. She is not doing enough choreography to warrant that amount of playback / vocal bedding (assistance). And she can sing! I had a similar complaint about her SNL performances. The background track is far louder than her for more than half the songs at times. But it was still a good effort regardless.

There wasn't anything amazing to be the 40th anniversary... However, I thought this was a great VMAs. I think they're slowly trending back up from the lows it reached in the past decade (though we know they will never be what it once was).
I do wish they showed some more awards though.

Wonder how long they are going to just give the awards to Taylor in exchange of her attending (not PERFORMING even, just attending).

Overall, this VMAs was one of the more enjoyable ones in a long time. I agree with the sentiment that this show doesnβt touch the greatness of the VMA glory days but it was the most enjoyable one this decade. Katy, Chappell, Sabrina, Anitta, and Lenny were my favorite performances of the night but a majority of the performances were good last night.

The show had a nice line-up and some fun performances, but it was an unwieldly mess, lol. There was no flow, no rhyme or reason. This is why you need structure and a host. They threw Megan out there about every 30 minutes with barely any script, totally wasted. So much of it felt under-rehearsed and badly blocked. They need a better producer/showrunner.

I agree but they've made it mostly about speeches and performances for a couple years now. They upload clips and that's what reaches the mainstream. The akward transitions are only seen by live viewers which is probably the minority now. Wonder how long they are going to just give the awards to Taylor in exchange of her attending (not PERFORMING even, just attending). It's very obvious and has been for years now that they call acts beforehand to let them know they're winning big so they show up.

I gotta respect the K Pop ladies commitment to serving c*nt and choreo over the most basic songs you'll ever hear. Like I'll always root for them because if the song is ever slightly less generic they might get me to stan. Rockstar is one of the absolute worst songs I've ever heard. Not even one guitar on that stage either lol. Why didn't they just call the song POPstar?

Yeah I donβt get it. For the last decade or so hosts are barely there on award shows. Thereβs no awards given out and this thing where an upcoming c-lister plays them into commercial. People watch the VMAs for messy celebrity stuff not messy production.
