It's not often that I'll click on an All Access ad, but this song title intrigued me. I watched the video, and I have to say this is a damn good song. Too slow to get very far on the chart, but it's got that kind of epic feel to make it a cult favorite. Video available here: www.victoryhardcore.com/video/sr_existentialism.html

Yeah it's kinda Something Corporate-ish. Pretty good.

Is this ever going to go for adds? It seems like a song that could end up as a pretty big sleeper hit; especially when this band is made up of former members of Taking Back Sunday. TBS's ridiculously massive fanbase would never get enough. Something Corporate is also the first similar band that comes to mind while hearing this.
I've been hearing this for about 8 weeks now and I'm still on the fence. The best part about the song is listening to all the kids trying to correctly pronounce its title.

I feel kinda dirty now. I hate Taking Back Sunday. Still a good song though.

Too bad this song isn't going anywhere, it really should be. But to be honest, it sounds like it was made for HAC and not Alternative.

Just checked out WXRK's playlist, and this is listed on the bottom of it. :o This either means: A) They just added it or B) They've added it a while ago and just never play it >:(

I heard this by accident last week or so, not knowing what it was until it was ID'd afterward. It made a very favorable first impression on me.
I heard it the second time just this morning in the car on the way to work and I knew immediately what it was this time. God, it's so obvious it's an offshoot of TBS, it's hard to judge with fresh ears.

This is now featured in commericals for the new season of Summerland. I wonder if it's been adopted as the new theme song, if it is, then this song might see life afterall.... just on Pop instead of Alternative. I've sent the video late night on MTV2 a few times too, which is cool. AWESOME video.

Yeah, there need to be more videos set on the subway. I mean, I've never ridden the PATH train, but I suppose it's no different than the MTA. It's just a cool atmosphere on the subway. Especially when the train emerges from a tunnel into sunlight. I get such a cool feeling when that happens. Also can't help but like that cover of the Post they used. (By the way, that's not a real cover, is it? I know they wanted everything on the train to sync up to the lyrics, but I just get the idea they got a real paper.) Also should mention that www.mtv2.com has the song available to download. It's actually only the second song I've ever downloaded.

The video has become huge on MTV2. I don't understand why Alternative radio isn't all over this by now, even if it it's not exactly the newest song in the world. As much as it's on TV, you'd think it would be matched in radio airplay, but that's definitely not the case with this one.

I really love this song, and I think it's alternative enough to get at least into the top 25 of the chart. I can't see what are the radios looking for

I hope to see "The Tension and the Terror" released... and making the top 50 Well, if "Existentialism" isn't gonna make the top 50, any followup probably has a quadrillion-to-one chance of charting, in my opinion. Unless they have some surprise hard rocker up their sleeve. Right now, it's #97 with 60 spins, so I don't think it looks good anyway. :(

38 of the song's 63 plays came from 89x, with 23 more from KRBZ in Kansas City.
Where'd this peak at, like #53? I was about to call it one of the most hosed songs ever, but while it's certainly up there, I noticed that the band is on Victory Records, who has only pushed a hit out of one band, and that's Taking Back Sunday. And even they've been hosed on several occasions with their singles. So I think this song's chart run is mostly a matter of Victory having a lot to learn; I mean to have that much Mtv support and virtually no radio support...there's just no excuse for that.

So I think this song's chart run is mostly a matter of Victory having a lot to learn; I mean to have that much Mtv support and virtually no radio support...there's just no excuse for that. And this definitely isn't the first time Victory's done that. I remember "Understanding (In A Car Crash)" by Thursday was all over MTV2 in 2002, but the song barely made N&A. And I think it was only when they moved to Island that they made the top 50. As for TBS, I remember they miraculously made the top 50 for a week in 2003 with "Cute Without The E" and that video too made waves at MTV2. The follow-up "You're So Last Summer" did nothing, of course, despite its video getting some brief airplay. But what's interesting is that they actually had Flavor Flav of VH1 Public Enemy in the video! You'd think that would've generated some buzz at radio, but no go. So maybe that's just a testament to how easy Flavor was to hire, but if they're spending more money on that then pushing songs to radio, well yeah, I agree that's not how you promote artists. But it seems most of their artists are indie artists anyway. So I'm guessing they'd rather focus on an underground following for their artists, but try to give their top tier artists as much preferential treatment as they can. I don't know how your average label works, though, so I can't really speculate as to what's on their mind.

"You're So Last Summer" wasn't a hit at radio, but I wouldn't quite say it did nothing. I think it cracked the top 70.

This is getting played this week in commercials for the WB show "Summerland". I'm also surprised it hasn't come closer to the top 50. I hear it on XM quite a bit.

I'm really hoping these guys release a strong follow-up. I didn't actually care much for "Prom Night." (Just me, but I thought it fell into a lot of the generic emo-trappings bands like this should try to avoid.) But when a friend of mine played the CD for me, I was surprised by how the rest kind of seemed up-beat and pop-rock-esque to me, kind of in the vein of Phantom Planet. Well, Phantom Planet's first album. Anyway, I only got to hear the CD once, but I too would throw my vote in for "Tension and the Terror." Granted, I don't think it will do anything at this point.
Maybe a TBS-Straylight emo-feud could help get them the notoriety they need. I always wondered what the exact unpleasantness was between TBS's singer and Straylight's singer (and his sister) that originally caused Straylight's singer to drop out of TBS. Granted, I always pictured it going like the airplane scene from Almost Famous

I can't believe I just heard this song today when it's so old. I heard it on Launch and this is an awesome song! I can't believe I missed out on it. Did it do anything on Alternative?

Nope. I think it cracked the top 50 at some point, but couldn't hold on to it long enough for the week to end, so it had no official weeks in the top 50.
But while it wasn't a by-definition "hit", at least a lot of people heard and know the song, especially compared to many of the songs that peak around #40 or #35 and last around 5 weeks before tumbling off the chart, before anyone really gets a chance to hear the song. "Existentialism" did very well on Fuse, Mtv2, and a bunch of Satellite stations; it was just radio who never decided to join in like they should have, for whatever reason.

I love this song and it was played a lot on MTV2 (and it's Rock Countdown). I remember singing along with it and that kid with the GameBoy SP he stole from me.
