Yearly top 100 songs full-chart run

With I Remember Everything dipping into recurrent status, every hit song of 2023 has now completed its chart run. As such, I'm going to be ranking the top 100 based on the total points they have earned over their entire run on the Hot 100. Corrections will be made after the 2024 YE has been published. I'm aware that rockgolf has a similar list, however this one is derived from Billboard's real points, sourced from PositivityMaster48 and Talk of the Charts

{Rules for qualification}
1. A song automatically qualifies for the first J-D year end it makes
2. Songs that were caught between years will count for the year it began charting unless it was clearly bigger the second year (minimum 50 spots higher)
3. If a song missed its first YE but made the second, it can still count towards the first year if one of the three standards are met      a) it had a 3+-week run in the top 10 that was entirely confined to its original year
b) if it made the top 150 of its first year and finished within 50 spots the following year
c) if it hit its charting peak during the previous year and followed a consistently descending pattern after the month of January

I know these rules may not seem as straightforward as "whatever year it peaked" or "whatever YE it made first," but to me, this is the best way to capture which year a song belongs to

Here is the list for 2022. Little note on Running Up That Hill: I am counting all of its weeks, including those from 1985, as without its moderate popularity in the 80s, its resurgence would be a lot less likely. However, as Billboard did not record real points back then, I'm handling this a little different. When calculating their year ends, they used a simple inverse for songs outside the top 10. This makes calculating its points pretty simple: 758 points. To make this comparable to modern numbers, I multiplied this by 200, which leads to 151,600 points from 1985-1986. If you consider only the weeks in 2022, then its total could be 360,200 and it would rank #29. And if you argue it counts for the 80s instead, the #101 song was No Love by Summer Walker & SZA at 125,530.

Nice work. I've done some lists as ideas, mostly for the 2000s, but not necessarily with concrete points, but what they'd likely look like. I've typically used the rule that if they are up to 40 spots lower in Year 1 than Year 2, I'll still put them in Year 1 if they chart within Year 1 proper, but I made a few exceptions even to that, like with Bubbly and Womanizer, both of them peaked in the October before the year they were most prominent in based on Year End list, but were also less than 60 spots lower, but I still put them in Year 1 of their respective year on the Year End (2007 and 2008).

Here are the numbers for 2021. This year was absolutely loaded; both in quality and in strength. It was to the point that two songs that made the official YE missed this list. Those two songs were Drinkin Beer, Talkin God, Amen (158,330) and Todo de Ti (157,280).

Yes to everything. Here’s what you need to know. After BTS fans spam-purchased Butter for 10 weeks, Billboard quietly made sales less valuable in the formula, though tbh, that already accounted for a very small portion of points. Songs were also just a lot less listened to; you can look at the Spotify weekly streaming charts in 2021 and 2022 and notice how much weaker they are in the latter year. That translated to the charts, which basically kept getting weaker and weaker as the year progressed. But one more factor in the songs from 2021 being a lot stronger in points: the first half of 2022 was extremely static, which allowed a lot of 2021 songs to linger and rack up a lot more points than they otherwise would have.

I'm writing this two days after the election, and I'm taken back to four years ago. What do 2020 and 2024 have in common? They were both bad years that at least gave us some great music that, in a lot of ways, acted as the escapism we needed. Here's the 2020 chart. While the best year for music this decade is debatable, this one did the best job of providing a sense of relief.

Also, we probably owe Bieber an apology for hating on him for Yummy. Don't get me wrong, it's still the worst song (and music video) of the year. It's just that we now know it was a cry for help. The song is Diddy's fault.

And yes, it's weird to me too that Cardigan couldn't get on this list. Especially considering how many streams it has today, and that it was a #1 hit. It finished at #104, so it came close, but yeah just proof that Billboard isn't the be-all, end-all of what will be remembered.
