It's his last album? what is he gonna do, "act" like he did in the idol his last album as the weeknd, after it he's going on a hiatus and going to drop more sporadically under his real name as far as I understand Interesting, I didn’t know this. Tbh, the Starboy album is so packed with hit ready songs that haven’t really aged, I feel like he could just go back to that well in the future if he wants hits without new music lol.

Just out of curiosity does Kendrick Lamar have many mainstream hits? I’m not being shady I just don’t know much about him. I know he’s huge in the rap game, but usually the Superbowl has artists that have mainstream appeal. It could just be me being ignorant??

Maybe not as much as some other rappers, and a lot of them are collabs or small features in pop songs like Bad Blood or Don't Wanna Know (like many rappers as well), but he has hits like Humble, Not Like Us, Pray For Me, and All The Stars that definitely percolated the mainstream.

I feel like Humble, the Black Panther pair, and Not Like Us are the only truly widely known lead Kendrick songs. His big feature hits feel less relevant to his name, like who is thinking about him with Bad Blood for example. Even with BP songs, I feel like The Weeknd and SZA both really overshadow him on those respectively.

The Weeknd's website crashed from people pre-saving the single and purchasing the CD single for Dancing in the Flames, looks like his team is pulling out all the stops for a #1 single. Lessons learned from Dawn FM.

I'm not sure what it takes for something to be considered "widely known," but "Money Trees" has over 1.5 billion Spotify streams. "LOVE" has over 1.4 billion Spotify streams. "DNA" has over 1.2 billion Spotify streams. Those aren't exactly niche numbers. I'd assume his Apple totals would be pretty high, too, if we had access to those numbers. As an aside, I don't know that "i" was a huge hit, but I think it would work really well for a Super Bowl halftime show.

The number of streams doesn't give us a good idea of how many unique listeners of those streams were. That would be presumably be the most objective measure if the data were available.

"Alright" wasn't a big mainstream hit but his performance of it at the 2016 Grammys was an iconic moment. Kendrick probably won't have the flashy dazzle of an entertainer like Usher but he knows how to put on a memorable show. I'm excited to see what he does!

Kendrick has more than enough huge songs for the Super Bowl..
In other news, The Death of Slim Shady is getting a deluxe this Friday! Woo! The wonderful, amazing, legendary Alchemist is featured in the trailer.. Hopefully a telling sign!

The Bed Chem hold is pretty crazy tbh, especially considering she is juggling 3 other proper single smashes simultaneously rn as well. None of these songs even have so much as a feature or a lick of chart tactics either! She has a guaranteed 4th smash from the album when Taste is done I’d say. When was the last time we even had an era like that? Seems like no album has gone beyond 3 smashes since 1989. I still say slap Ariana on a Bed Chem remix for the guaranteed h100 #1.

Linkin Park’s Streaming Catalog Soars Following Comeback News
After being released at 6 pm ET on Thursday as Linkin Park launched into a global livestream performance, “The Emptiness Machine” earned 2.22 million U.S. on-demand audio streams on Friday, its first full day of release, according to Luminate. The single hovered about one million U.S. audio streams over the next three days, and ended its first full four-day stretch with 6.47 million streams, while also racking up over 6,000 in digital sales — likely setting it on pace for a big Hot 100 bow.
Yet Linkin Park’s return is also boosting the band’s back catalog and biggest hits, as listeners revisit their past albums before receiving a new one in November. From Sept. 6-9, the band’s catalog (minus “The Emptiness Machine”) earned 30.11 million combined U.S. audio streams — a 62% increase compared to the same four-day period during the previous week. That spike also included big week-over-week gains for hits like “Numb” (up 60%), “One Step Closer” (up 76%) and “Faint” (up nearly 100%), as fans heard new co-vocalist Emily Armstrong sing all three during the band’s livestream and wanted to hear the classic versions, too. – JASON LIPSHUTZ
Rich Homie Quan Catalog Surges on Streaming Following Rap Great’s Death
The hip-hop world was shaken last week (Sept. 5) by the tragic news of Rich Homie Quan’s death at the age of just 33. The Atlanta rapper, whose real name was Dequantes Devontay Lamar, had been one of hip-hop’s leading hitmakers of the mid-2010s, during a time in which his home city essentially took over as the U.S.’s rap capital. Over the days that followed, tributes poured in from Quan’s collaborators and contemporaries, saluting both the man and artist and expressing shock over his premature passing.
Fans of Rich Homie Quan of course also expressed their grief by streaming his music in massive numbers. Over Sept. 2-4, the three days before his death, the rapper amassed 1.7 combined million official on-demand U.S. streams for his solo catalog as a lead artist – but that number skyrocketed to 31.7 million total over the following three days, according to Luminate, an eye-popping gain of 1,727%. Leading songs from his catalog over that period include his Hot 100 hits “Type of Way” (4.5 million combined streams, a 1,892% gain) and “Flex (Ooh, Ooh, Ooh)” (3.6 million streams, up 1,666%).
Those numbers do not account, however, for perhaps the song most celebrated on social media following Quan’s passing: “Lifestyle,” his classic 2014 team-up with Atlanta rap icon Young Thug, released under the collective name Rich Gang. Over the same period, “Lifestyle” was up to 4.7 million combined streams, a 598% gain from the previous three-day period. – ANDREW UNTERBERGER
Season’s Gainings: Kendrick Lamar Super Bowl Announcement Strikes a Chord on DSPs
The NFL season has kicked off once again, and even if you weren’t following the action on Sunday (Sept. 8), you might’ve still felt the excitement of football’s return – thanks to the early-day announcement that the upcoming Super Bowl LIX in New Orelans would be headlined by rapper-of-the-moment Kendrick Lamar. The announcement was met with some controversy, as many rap purists voiced their support for Big Easy hip-hop icon Lil Wayne as an alternate headliner, but plenty of streaming listeners were evidently still pumped by a prospective K Dot set – the rapper’s total streams for Monday were over 11.6 million, according to Luminate, a 12% gain from the prior Monday. – AU

Post's Hollywood's Bleeding had four smash hits, all four spent at least 10 weeks in the top 10: Circles (39), Sunflower (33), Wow (24) and Goodbyes (12), it was the first album since Katy's Teenage Dream to have at least 4 songs over 10 weeks in the top 10 (TD had 6), BUT Sunflower wasn't part of the album cycle (wasn't a HB single), it was included as part of the album tho, so don't know if that counts? Also, Olivia's SOUR? traitor wasn't a HUGE Hot 100 hit (peak: 9, weeks: 25) like the first 3 singles, but it's currently the most streamed SOUR song with 1M daily streams, and SOUR is still the only album in history to have 4 songs over 1.5B streams on Spotify: drivers license (2.26B), good 4 u (2.24B), deja vu (1.69B) and traitor (1.65B). EDIT: and Doja's Planet Her felt like an album with 10 smash songs because of TikTok, but it 'only' had 3 top 10s and You Right at #11.

Totally feels like it shouldn’t count though considering both were entirely removed from the rest of the era and way ahead of it. Yeah, I can’t really see justification for Traitor and You Right as big smashes, but albums with 4 “hits” though at least.

Yes I am as well, I'm assuming that one will be on the album. Unless it ends up like that little bit at the start of the Alright video that never became a full song or at least not released, "Dead Homies"
