Katy just released another version of 143 with live performances of old hits from Rock In Rio so hopefully this helps boost her numbers a bit!

Idk for Katy to only be predicted 10k less than what Smile debuted with. When it felt like Smile's singles were bigger (NRO and Daisies), and she was in better standing with the public. I'm impressed. Especially given all the backlash she's received. I really think this shows though her team's stupid decision to not focus on streaming at all. Focused on the sales, that's why those are good, but the streams matter too. I was just hoping she'd make the top 20. I didn't even know top 10 was in the cards. "Never Really Over" was bigger but was released like a year before the album. "Daisies" was shortlived and even then wasn't that big at all. She's still significantly using the 2024 environment (physical sales with multiple variants) to somewhat lessen the drop. It's how Nicki opened to bigger numbers without an active hit, how Olivia masked a moderate streaming drop into a small increase of overall debut numbers, it was like 75% of the marketing tactic to keep Tortured Poets at the top, etc... Mind you not everyone can get away with it (Shakira had like 8 variants and still couldn't hit top 10 lmao). Katy just released another version of 143 with live performances of old hits from Rock In Rio so hopefully this helps boost her numbers a bit! That's gonna be for week 2. It could help lessen the drop but those 30k pure sales have nowhere to go but down harshly. I really wish the variants thing would be reigned in a bit by Billboard. It makes the chart feel way more artificial than it already as big acts can drop XYZ variant with crappy voice notes and a live version and move up and down as they wish. Not a dig against Katy, it's a good tactic for her to lessen the drop, but much like when BTS gamed the iTunes chart into a 10 week #1 hit that no one really heard elsewhere, it's annoying.

I get NRO was out long before the album drop, but fact being its a steady streamer. 701 million Spotify streams equates to a relatively successful streaming song. Those weekly stream's don't just completely bottom out a year later, and it shows given how many streams its sitting at now. I'm sure it wasn't pulling in nearly the amount of streams it did when it was first released, when Smile came out, but I'm sure it was still pulling in relatively good streams, even after being out for a year. And while Daisies wasn't very much of a hit at all. I still think it's outdone anything she's tried on 143.

She did 21 million streams on that week and someone said 143 is pacing to do 14 million ish? Meaning yeah there were bigger hits. She's still getting a decrease because even in the face of the variants she's doing around 5k less pure sales (35k for Smile). My point is she would have dropped much more on that department without all the variants which is why the number feels "close" to what Smile did. It's still overall a 20% decrease in activity even if it feels like "just 10k". 10k is a lot when the numbers get this small.
Smile's chart run btw: 5-54-104-160-out. Should be an interesting comparison with the next week removing all the preorder sales and physicals.
BTW I read on Twitter that Teenage Dream is reportedly doing 14k on streams alone this week, more than her new album...

Smile was barely an era, dropped during covid lockdown with no promotion more than a year after the lead single. 143 was one of the best promoted eras in recent memory, big marketing budget and Katy has been everywhere for it around the world. It should've easily cleared Smile's first week, even without a hit single.

^That would guarantee his album having one of the top 10 biggest drops from #1 in the Billboard 200. Let's see how close it comes to This House Is Not for Sale's record drop to #169.

He's not much of a joke. Besides he still has UTOPIA in the top 50. I think it makes a lot of sense that Days Before Rodeo is not still in the top 50 selling albums this week. And the reason UTOPIA is is because it is newer music and has more recent and on-going hits. Now-a-days a lot of albums on the list are carried by some big songs still being streamed heavy, and UTOPIA is not even that old, just came out summer last year. I don't see what is so negative or resentful about it that it has to be a "joke."

Bizarre that nothing on Travis' mixtape/album/project is doing well on streaming. Like where do those sales come from if people are not listening to the album? He has only 200k fans overall?

The way the album goes up and down the chart for technicalities and not an actual resurgence of popularity is the joke. The rest of your stantement idc bc my post was not about him himself but the chart formula and shenanigans.

This album obviously isn't going to stream well since it's 10 years old. It's being released physically for the first time and those physicals shipped last week.

Yeah, it's not really a fraud, I do believe it moved the units they say it moved... it's just dumb how the charts work like that sometimes.
