Artist: Shaboozey Single: Highway Album: Where I've Been, Isn't Where I'm Going Label: American Dogwood/EMPIRE Writers: Collins Obinna Chibueze, Sean Cook, McKay Stevens Impact Date: 10/28/24
Confirmed as the second country radio single (third overall with Drink Don't Need No Mix being sent to Rhythmic this week). It was my favorite song upon the first listen of his album so I’m excited, but also remaining cautiously optimistic about its odds for success.

It'll be interesting to see how this one does. Given his buzz for the upcoming awards season and riding the success of "A Bar Song" it should perform decently, but I don't want to get too optimistic as country radio has a history of not supporting follow-up singles to massive hits.

I fear that "A Bar Song" feels too novelty and one-hit wonderish to allow this or any other single in the near future to do well for him. Having said that, this is a great song and single on its own merits. It's catchy, and along with that it reveals how shallow so much of current mainstream country music is.

This is such an awful style! It’s this weird faux folk, Mumford and Sons/Lumineers type stuff and just doesn’t do it for me at all. I remember thinking he has some decent stuff on his album when I listened to it (need to give it another spin) but this and “Bar Song” ain’t it for me.

I think it will at least get the curiosity factor as many will want to see if he can be more than a one hit wonder

It’ll likely crack the Top 40 but given that he’s still an indie artist through Empire and country radio isn’t exactly known to embrace such promotions, we’ll see how far he can get. If he’s successful, it could be a sign that he’s a star in the format.
