It was away for like 4 months. Is that a record? I remember "Truly Madly Deeply" went back to #1 after dropping to #2 for 9 weeks while "My Heart Will Go On" was #1.

Not sure if the MB rules change has any impact on AT40, where under the old rules songs often stayed for months after Mediabase sent them to recurrency. "Too Sweet" could plausibly do the same as "Espresso" next week.

"Belong Together" takes one of the steepest drops on the countdown recently, going 11-21-35 in just three weeks. Of course it wouldn't have been as steep if not for the weird 19-11 jump two weeks ago.

Interesting that #1 on AT40 isn't on the Mediabase chart, which is the victim of recurrent rules.

AT40 mostly follows Mediabase placements for songs in the top 10. It is when they go recurrent and fall out of the top 10 is where they drop gradually. Once "Espresso" falls below #5 it will either gradually or plummet out of the Top 10 because it's recurrent.

It’s the new record. Ryan said that “Calm Down” had the previous record with a 10 week gap between weeks at #1.

Hmm, you’re right. I just looked at Mediabase’s chart and Espresso’s gone from the Top 10! What is the new rule?

Nobody knows exactly yet (as far as weeks charted, possibly 25 or 26), but the new super-recurrent rule affects songs that drop below #5. The normal 20 week/below #10 rule still stands though.

David Guetta and Akon, but for all terrestrial countdown shows, it was changed to "Sexy Chick."

Also, Ryan mentioned that Akon's last hit was "Play Hard" in 2013 prior to "Akon's Beautiful Day."

if this was based on the Thursday November 7th Mediabase chart it was very close to #1.

Yes, it was lock that with 4 debuts, ‘Houdini’ by Eminem would have been one of the exiting songs. It’s probably the magic of Houdini that cause a 1 notch jump up to number 38.

Benson Boone’s ‘Beautiful Things’ is still kicking after being number 1 in May at 12. It has been a very impressive run on a slow decline down the American Top 40 chart.

Wow. As mentioned before, ‘too sweet’ by Hozier should have been #1 if it was very loosely based on Nov 7 mediabase chart. If it hits number 1 for a week next week, then Espresso’s breaking of the record that belonged to ‘Calm Down’ by Rema featuring Selena Gomez, who still owns the longest run on the AT40 chart at 75 weeks, will be shorted lived. Hozier would beat that record since it wasn’t number 1 since July I’m assuming?

This has to be the first time in a long the top 5 songs have all been #1’s. And this chart doesn’t reflect the chart on November 7th. Correct me if I’m wrong

ever since the formula was released, i keep track to every Thursday MB chart the AT40 countdown uses for their data, and part of the time the #1 is the same except for the past 2 weeks recently where the #1 isn't the same

And radio pretty much refused to let it go recurrent when it quit playing on some radio stations. The same is currently happening with "Too Sweet".
