For the past 5 years, I have been making & posting songs of the year list online. But I do it on my Anilist page, not on any actual like. Music websites. I'm not really on any socials, so it's nice to have a personal page to act as a blog/repository of random thoughts there (and I guess I've acquired a small following there).
But, I think 2023-2024 I've been way more active on Pulse than Anilist. So...no reason not to post my music list to a music website right?
I'm planning on actually starting my top 100 songs posts on 12/16--I usually aim for mid-December because anything that I discover after that wouldn't really feel like a "song of current year" with only a couple weeks left. Until then, I'm going to cruise through a few more albums on my planning list and listen to all the Madness lists to make sure I am as comprehensive as I can be.
Right now, I have a total of 237 songs on my favorites of the year list. I'm really happy with my top 100 already, but I've had to make some cuts that I'm not happy about. So I think I'm going to celebrate all my favorite discoveries of 2024 in a thread here. I'll post a few songs daily up to the 16th as honorable mentions, and I think that should cover the full list.
So stick around for meandering, stream of consciousness commentary on 237+ songs I like in this thread!!

8 honorable mentions a day (but 16 today since I started on Anilist yesterday), in...lightly ranked order, starting on the bottom and working up.
Vapin' in Vegas - Wolves of Glendale
I can't say that Vapin' in Vegas is a song that I fully LOVE, but it has really stuck with me since the first time I heard it. I don't really think all the jokes in this song land, but the chorus is catchy is hell and the twist ending did catch me off guard. It's a unique experience that I think is worth bearing mention to on this list. Thanks for this one maine
Too Far - Improvement Movement
Not 100% sure how this song got on my radar (I think my discover weekly?), but I remember my first time hearing it I had no idea if it was from 1977 or 2024. They execute that 70s soft yacht rock sound so well.
Don't Rely on Other Men - JPEGMAFIA
I've listened to ~200 albums from 2024 this year, but I don't think I'll end up getting around to the new Peggy album. I've never been a HUGE fan of his, but he does have some really great songs that stick with me. This one is by far my favorite I've heard from his new project.
Old Scratch Blues - Jack White
New Jack White album is pretty good, though I do think I prefer Boarding House Reach overall. First track is probably my favorite
One for the Road - Johnny Blue Skies
Always cool to see new Sturgill Simpson, and I'm interested to see what he does with this Johnny Blue Skies project in the future. Didn't love the album as much as I had expected, but One for the Road is an epic closing track.
Burst - Kiasmos
Very pretty blend of ambient house and classical that's been good background music for me throughout the year.
I Choose You (Again) - Datagirl f/ death's dynamic shroud DDS has undeniably been my most listened to act of 2024, so this collaboration with Datagirl naturally ended up on my radar. Very pretty, sweet little ambient pop song.
Solitary Road - Charley Crockett
I haven't had time for Charley Crockett's new album, but his singles never miss. Great country/southern rock banger.

I haven't forgotten. I have been writing these basically daily, just haven't been transferring everything over to the thread. Breathe - Yeat I think the new Yeat album went on a bit too long for me to fully love it, but I do really like the style and aesthetic of the project. Breathe is one of the highlights (I like Lyfestyle a lot too).
Get Numb to It! - Friko
Friko seemingly came out of nowhere and garnered a ton of attention for their debut album which I found to be...decent, but mainly unexceptional indie rock. But Get Numb to It was the real standout track for me. I love the sort of dance punk-y energy on this one.
Love Me JeJe - Tems Didn't quite have time to get to this Tems album this year, but everything I've heard from it has been so good (it was close between this one and Forever for her representation on this list). She's up there with Asake and Tyla as my favorite afrobeats artist.
The Pain-Body (Child Synergy Tears) - Fire-Toolz f/ Jordan Reed & Nick Krueger
Part of me thinks that Soda Lake with Game Genie was lightning in a bottle--that blend of black metal with vaporwave was so perfectly done in that song, and I haven't really heard anything else from Fire-Toolz that's quite so masterful. But I do like this track from Breeze, though it's more just a good piece of emo/post-rock than anything so mind-bending.
Run Your Mouth - The Marías I've never been huge on The Marias (and I did find Submarine a pretty underwhelming release as well), but Run Your Mouth is a real grower. It's a song that I've heard pop up in random places literally all year, and I grow to like it more and more each time
On Fire - Idaho Apparently Idaho has been out there making slowcore since 1993...I've never heard of them, but they just released their first album in 13 years. Pretty chill, emo-tinged indie rock here. I like it.
Love Heart Cheat Code - Hiatus Kaiyote
I don't know if I fully get Hiatus Kaiyote well enough to call myself a huge fan. Their new album has its ups and downs, but they do make truly weird and extremely interesting contemporary R&B and soul. I quite like Kaleidoscope as well (and appreciate the experimentation on Cinnamon Temple. Longcat's a fun song too), but the title track from their new album is probably the one I've enjoyed most this year.
Cinderella - Remi Wolf
So many albums that I'm just not going to have time to get to by the end of the year. I've heard some pretty fire tracks from the new Remi Wolf album. I love how much personality there is on this one, especially in the instrumental.

Windchimes - twikipedia
Need to here more from Twinkipedia. Their new EP was pretty good (even if I didn't have time for the LP), and I do love this track Windchimes as well, quality noisy indie rock
3AM - Moistbreezy
I love how Moistbreezy has been bringing the sounds of 2000s electropop back in the 2020s since 2023. This one is in a bit more of a "hands up house" direction than the eurodance of Pure Imagination, but she does this well too! It's very uh AMV in 2007-core
All Night - The Dare
The Dare's commitment to "indie sleaze revival" and trying to sound like bootleg LCD Soundsystem has kind of made this debut era for him seem a bit rocky. And I will admit that I find the idea of The Dare more interesting than his music. But that said, All Night is a real earworm. I love the "LA to New York, New York to LA" shouted chorus.
Online - TWRP f/ Montaigne I saw an album with a weirdass album cover and the genres "synth funk/AOR" on RYM and put it on one afternoon. It's a little too garish for my taste, but Online is an undeniable banger. Really fun track with a great groove to it.
Emergence - The Messthetics & Brandon James Lewis
Really cool uh "jazz punk" instrumental from The Messthetics here. Their new album is cool, a little hard to pick a standout track. But I think it's the loud guitars in the second half of Emergence that made it my favorite.
Space & Time - Amber Mark
Amber Mark never misses. This is some really classy, nocturnal contemporary R&B from her. Comin' Around Again and Lovely Day are good 2024 singles from her as well, but I just love how expansive this one is.
XXIII - Lancé esto al otro lado del mar - Cristóbal Avendaño & Silvia Moreno
This is a really gorgeous piece of progressive folk music. I love the guitars and atmosphere of this song especially. My Spanish is a bit too rusty to understand the poetry in the lyrics, but the spoken word style is smooth as hell. Maybe a little too challenging to keep in my regular rotation, so it's just an honorable mention. But very cool song.
Photograph - Drab Majesty
More Drab Majesty's always good. Ready for a new album from them! I like the janglier approach on this track too, great song from them. I uh have no immediate plans to see I Saw the TV Glow, but the soundtrack has been great!
