I was looking at the Mediabase charts and it looked like stations were heavily playing this which is why I figured that they were going to be pushing it soon. I hadn't seen any sign of The World at Large...well actually play was dropping for it which made me think they were pushing it, but then decided to cancel

I was pulling for "The View" or "Bury Me With It", but ehh, I guess they could've done worse.

I was pulling for "One Chance", but the first two singles were the only obvious two singles from the record so really they could go any direction with the album now.
"The World at Large" has a great Coldplay atmosphere-sound to it, and it may serve this song fairly well.
My Prediction: #22
Sincerely, Noah Eaton

For my hopes that Epic would consider reminding the audiences that MM are in fact an edgy band I was rooting for "Bury Me With It" Hopefully this won't imply a safe direction. It seems to happen a lot when the single choices usually are in certain ways wrong. Not that "Large" isn't a good choice, I just wanted them to wait longer.

After a little bit of confusion as to what was getting the push, World At Large has been confirmed for February 22nd.

here's hoping they release a 4th and 5th single, 'World' is a great track, don't get me wrong but most ignorant bastards will just write it off as a 'Float On' rip-off. They definitely have to release 'Bury Me With It' and 'The View'. 'Bury' would easily break Top 10 Alternative, and 'View' sounds and feels like a crossover smash just waiting to happen. Record Execs would be stupid to not release those 2 songs as singles.

Something tells me that unless this is a sleeper hit like "Ocean Breathes Salty," this will be it for this album. I haven't heard the song yet.

if they release 'bury me with it' then they HAVE to release that 12 second indian song 'dig your grave' that's before it on the cd; jus so DJ's can say "dig your grave and bury me with it"

:-\ I don't like this much at all on first listen. It just doesn't seem to go anywhere.

This song is awful dull at first listen. It's not even chill-out, just plain dull. The lyrics and music are really repetitive and the song seems to drag on for much longer than it should. Even with one huge hit and one sleeper hit under their belt, I don't think the band can count on this being a hit.

I don't know why people feel that Bury Me With It and The View aren't obvious singles. I feel Bury Me With It could outpeak Ocean Breathes Salty.

I feel Bury Me With It could outpeak Ocean Breathes Salty. definitely here's how I view it: Bury Me With It: #4 The View: #8 (with greater success crossing over) World at Large: #26'WaL' is just not gonna do as well, and it will suck balls if this is it for this album. >:(

I do however look at the situation as such.
Regardless of how the next single or two off of Good News For People Who Love Bad News does, Modest Mouse have set their place in stone as being a greatly respected alternative band that's deserving of airplay. The first single off of their next album will be huge, not to mention highly anticipated.

And if Float On and OBS didn't have much crossover success then I don't see why The View would. Also, while I don't expect too much from WAL, I think it will at least crack the top 20.

... And if Float On and OBS didn't have much crossover success then I don't see why The View would... actually 'Float On' did surprisingly decent on POP, as it peaked at #29 w/o going for adds.

This is flopping hard. Classic example of a wrong single choice.

This is flopping hard. Classic example of a wrong single choice. Again, I think Modest Mouse even agree that their record only had two obvious single candidates. I know "The View" seemed obvious in some people's opinions here, but I didn't see it as obvious, and I don't think the band or label did either. Personally I still think "One Chance" would have been the best choice if they wanted more adult alternative appeal, or "Bury Me With It" if they wanted more Alternative appeal. It's true I thought this would peak higher (touch the Top 30 before falling like an anvil) but I really didn't think any other track from this record would come close to where the first two singles peaked. Sincerely, Noah Eaton

Well, you wouldn't know it was flopping out here. KNDD's been playing this since November. I was personally pulling for this to be the third single since I liked it, and didn't want them to have another "Float On"-type song that I thought was really mediocre. But since KNDD is playing the crap out of this, I really don't care whether this flops or is a hit.
"Bury Me With It" is a cool song, though. Except, I don't know if it would've done much better nationally.
