Recently on 97.3 the brew in Milwaukee, they are using the word ass repeatedly in the morning show particularly. They had Carrot Top say something to the effect "get your ass out of bed and listen to .....)", they had Dennis DeYoung from Styx basically say the same thing, and the DJs occassionally use that as well. IMO, this is a station that is listened to at work, by kids, young adults, older adults etc. This should not happen on the air.

It depends what word it is. If it's ass or hell, it's not as bad. If it's sh*t or f*ck...well that's different. (And for the record, one of the stations I listened to said sh*t. In an ad.)

They could do like what Shadoe Stevens did on AT40 when 2 Live Crew charted with "Me So Horny": don't mention the title.

Once a DJ on my Pop station was saying that he could say what he wanted as a joke to another DJ and then said 'Motherf***er' reall fast in a high pitch voice LOL!. He doesn't work for the station anymore...I doubt it's because of that though

"Ass" is so tame, though I don't usually use it in everyday speech.
Outright swearing is different, though.

In the UK the word "ass" (or "arse", whatever way you want to spell it) isn't seen as being a 'naughty word' at all. It always seems really stupid when some songs have Radio Edits to remove words like that... "ass", "hell" - etc - they are all pretty tame and to be honest, are they really that offensive? I don't think so...
Sh*t, fu*k, etc are different though.

From All Access:
No, you weren't hallucinating, and yes, Rush Limbaugh actually used the term b*** j*** on the air Tuesday (4/12).

It's acceptable, IMO. If a child makes it to the age of 8 without hearing these words, they must be living a very sheltered life. To me, they're no more than ordinary words nowadays.
Meanwhile, there was one station in Ottawa, can't for the life of me remember it's name anymore (XFM maybe?), that when it first came out didn't block any words out. Only when it came under attack a few months later did it start censoring.

Yes, they let them say as they please. I hear kids as young as five, already cursing, which is bad, but normal, I guess..

i think it depends on what type of station too. i kno our rock station says sh!t sometimes in adverts or whatever during the day, but thats probably down to kiwi attitude. but if an AC station said it in the morning where kids are listening before school, yea its bad.
