Do you think the fact that legal downloads now account for a significant part of a Hot 100 single's success will help Alternative singles break the upper half of the chart finally?
"Mr. Brightside" debuted at #37 before Pop even added it, thanks to Itunes and heavy Alt. airplay
The Caesars' "Jerk It Out" is #74, based ONLY on downloads
yet QOTSA's "Little Sister" is only #93, despite a #2 spot at Alternative and what I am assuming is a good amount of downloads. And Beck's "E Pro" isn't even on the Hot 100.
so overall will the new Hot 100 rules benefit Alternative or not?

I haven't looked at the hot 100 in years. It's totally worthless.

Well, I haven't really looked into whatever these new rules may be, but the way I figure, with college guys being alternative's primary audience, and college guys being the ones that probably do the most of the downloading, I'd have to assume the alt tracks will be heavily benefitted.

Of course these new rules will help alternative songs do better on the Hot 100. And not just alternative songs...pop and AC as well.

I assume college guys do most of the illegal downloading. I don't think they've benefited much. Non-alternative songs get a lot of downloads too you know.
