I was just thinking about some bands that have some pressure on them right now, particullarly two of them:
Hoobastank- Their sophmore album started with a top 10 hit that deserved better ("Out Of Control"), followed by their first Alt #1 hit that was the longest #1 on pop since Avril, I believe. ("The Reason"). Then, they reseaved the rock radio backlash for "The Reason" being such a big hit. "Same Direction" was good enough to go top 10-8 on Alt, but yeah, the backlash was too stong. Then "Disappear" just plain sucked.
My point is, in order to get any rock cred back, they need to ROCK HARD with their lead track on their next album. HARD. And they only get one chance. If their lead single sux, they're done.
Also under pressure: Audioslave. People are counting on this album, and that's pretty evident by the fact they are about to get their first Alt #1 with "Be Yourself" within the next 2-5 days. If it's Puddle Of Mudd-ish, the general public will crush them.
Speaking of Puddle Of Mudd: Are they still together? And is Staind together still, too? We havn't heard from them in awhile.

Staind's new record is going to be called Chapter V and should be out in May.
All I've got to say is they better do a hell of a lot better job than 14 Shades of Grey this time and stop pussying out with well-trodden grunge ballads.

I haven't heard a thing yet about that. Do they have a lead single chosen yet?

Major ditto to the 14 Shades of Gray comment. That album was more like 14 shades of boredom. Aside from the first two singles, there was absolutely nothing original or even good - and even the first two singles were pretty bland.
However, I saw Staind live last summer, and they still had it. Great live show. If only they could record something that well.
I doubt Hoobastank will ever regain their Alt or Rock cred. They've never been an especially "hard" or original band. Radio killed The Reason, and they don't anything nearly as poignant (bad word choice, but you get the jist) up their sleeves, and there is absolutely no way they can pull off a real rock song (plus, their musicianship isn't that good either).

I really like Staind, both their old and their new stuff. Although their newer stuff is beyond generic and formulaic, they're just a band I can rely on for some songs with limited depth and just good listening. I still haven't really burnt out as much as I should on "Mudshovel," "Fade," "For You," "So Far Away," "Outside." and "Epiphany." Aaron Lewis has some great pipes and is capable of producing some powerful, emotional songs. I found a clip on one of their fansites with a couple instrumentals from their upcoming CD. It seems that the sample guitar riffs seem a little heavier, but nothing out of the ordinary from Staind. www2.fanscape.com/staind/05/media/johhnyapril031805.asx

Ermm.. I think Three Days Grace have pressure to make an album [or at least a couple single] as good as their previous album...
