With Audioslave getting #1 in its second week, it looks like Beck, Queens of the Stone Age, and Green Day all lost their window of opportunity for that spot. So what song do you think will be the next #1 and when?
Will it be the new Weezer song? The new System of a Down? Coldplay? Or will it be a song that's actually already charting right now (Nine Inch Nails, Z-Trip)?
I think System of a Down will be the one to do it, with almost as quick a rise as Audioslave. If System of a Down can't do it, then I think Audioslave will hold it for a really, really, really long time, perhaps until Green Day's Wake Me Up When September Ends goes to #1 in July.

I think NIN might get it as early as next week. Its bullet is just as large as Audioslave's, and they're already at #10. I'm actually thinking it'll be a dogfight between the two over the next few weeks, with them trading off for a month or two. One can hope, anyway.
And then there's the new Weezer song, which is sure to fly up just as quickly as Audioslave or NIN.
And yeah, Beck got screwed. But that's the deal with weekly charts, if you don't have it by a certain day, you don't have it period.

Hello "Just Because" by Jane's Addiction.
Didn't this also happen to "Bring Me to Life" and "Like a Stone"?

Weezer will probably have a pretty big start, like Garbage, Beck, and QOTSA, but not like NIN and Audioslave.

I think Green Day still might have a small chance.
If not, then Nine Inch Nails will probably get it in a couple weeks.

Didn't this also happen to "Bring Me to Life" and "Like a Stone"? Yeah, I think they both lost it to "Somewhere I Belong" during the end of its run. I seem to remember "Bring Me to Life" had it from Monday thru Saturday, and then lost it to LP on Sunday.

Yep, and not too long after, "Just Because" by Jane's Addiction was denied #1, also by a Linkin Park song ("Faint").

I feel in the case of Nine Inch Nails that it should be stated that they have also never had a #1 single on alternative.
Closer peaked at #11 and I can't remember what their other singles peaked at, but they weren't #1 either. I think The Hand That Feeds is already their highest charting single.
Still, The Hand That Feeds could pull it off if Audioslave doesn't keep going up in airplay.

I now think Foo Fighters' new song has the strongest chance of hitting number one in May, if System of a Down didn't already do it.
