This will be the second single from "Guero".
Definitely lighter. It has kind of a Beach Boys vibe to my ears, actually. May work better on Triple A.
Sincerely, Noah Eaton

Beck's in a very comfortable position here with his new album "Guero".
It has earned both great reviews and a strong Billboard 200 debut (debuted at #2)
"Girl" might do something here, who knows. Personally, I still feel this is more suited for Triple A in particular, and it might actually have a chance at crossing over to Hot AC and CHR/Pop and receive moderate airplay there.
Sincerely, Noah Eaton

I think it should be said for Beck that Artist Direct gave Guero 5 stars. They don't give that good of a review to too many albums. The only other album I can think of in the last two years that has gotten 5 stars from them is Set Yourself On Fire from Stars.
Anyway, I like this song. Seems like it will be the next single unless he decides to push Hell Yes which already has a video.

A friend told me the DVD that comes with the special edition of the disc has videos for every song on the CD. Is this the same video, or are the ones on the special edition not meant for mainstream use?

I love this. Normally, though, I would say this isn't suited for alternative. But... the format's been surprising me lately. This could be a hit yet.

Anyone else think this is Beck's most boring single in years?

Anyone else think this is Beck's most boring single in years? Nope. I actually consider this one of Beck's strongest singles of his career. This is a clear standout track of "Guero". Sincerely, Noah Eaton

Interesting that this is coming out; "Hell Yes" already has a video, but I see why that isn't being pushed?

Oh, I love this one. The best track from Guero and my current number one.

Quoting myself: One listen all the way through, and Adore so called it, but Guero thoroughly bored me.

It's amazing how this has gone from pretty good, to OK, to mediocre, to pretty annoying for me.

Guero is so amazing...so much better than I could have hoped for.
It's a masterpiece.

Oh, well then, since you are clearly so superior to the rest of us, please enlighten our feeble minds as to why this song is such a masterpiece.

Anyone else think this is Beck's most boring single in years? Nope. I like this one, though it's not one of my favorites. "Black Tambourine", "Earthquake Weather", & "Go It Alone" are my favorites.

I think this song is awesome.
I'd be surprised if it went Top 30 though (at least at Alt.)

Week ending 6/3/2005: Alternative debut at #50. And stalling already. When was the last time a #1 had a followup that failed to crack the top 40?

Or a Hot Beatles Remake, etc. I think it's pretty good. My favorite songs on the album though are not the singles and I don't find Guero to be boring. Contrarily, I find it entertaining. Not the best this year (but a lot of great albums have come out this year).

When was the last time a #1 had a followup that failed to crack the top 40? That's a good question. It'd be the first #1 followup in nine or ten months to miss the top 10, and the first in a year and a half to miss the top 20. The other most recent top 10 misses: (#13, 09/10/04) "Same Direction" - Hoobastank (#11, 08/27/04) "Triple Trouble" - Beastie Boys (#15, 08/27/04) "Rollover DJ" - Jet (#14, 07/22/04) "First Straw" - 311 Then you have to go back to fall 2003 and Jane's Addiction's "True Nature", and I have no idea where that peaked. I'm sure it wasn't that high though (maybe #23?). Going farther, "Dosed" by the RHCP and "Revolving Door" by Crazy Town are the only other possibilities of top 40 misses I can see going all the way back to 2001.

"True Nature" peaked at #31. "Dosed" peaked at #13. And "Revolving Door" peaked at... #39. Yeah, I had to look it up because I didn't even realize they followed up "Butterfly".

How about...
Limp Bizkit - N 2 Gether Now (unless it wasn't even released to Alternative, in which case it wouldn't count) Bush - Letting the Cables Sleep Whatever followed up Marcy Playground - Sex and Candy
If none of those did it, then it hasn't been done since 1997 at the latest.

"Letting The Cables Sleep" peaked at #3. The follow-up to "Sex and Candy" was "Saint Joe on the School Bus" and that peaked at #7. I can't find "N 2 Gether Now", but I agree it probably wasn't released to alternative anyway. The only instance I can find was "Kiss From A Rose" by Seal peaked at #42 after "Prayer For The Dying" went to #1. However, they charted over a year apart, and I'm pretty sure KFAR can only be found on the Batman Forever soundtrack anyway. But beggars can't be choosers I guess.
