This has been announced as the lead single from Billy Corgan's forthcoming solo debut, "THEFUTUREEMBRACE" due June 21.
I have yet to hear this track, but I can already say predicting this single is a mystery wrapped in an enigma wrapped in a vest.
There's no doubt the Smashing Pumpkins will always be legendary and loved to Alternative radio, and Billy Corgan remains somewhat of a household name among its listeners.
However, his other experiment, Zwan, proved all too stoppable, despite their only album "Mary Star of the Sea" bearing some of Corgan's most catchiest, radio-friendly material ever. "Honestly" only enjoyed a brief stay on the chart, and "Lyric" failed to do any better for the album.
However, recently, Alternative appears to be trending more to its 90's roots, with Green Day's huge comeback, nostalgia of Soundgarden and Rage Against The Machine alive in Audioslave, and even Jack Johnson's cult success showing there's still life in solo artists there.
My final word is I guess we're simply going to have to wait and hear this before we can make any such prediction.
More progressive rock has flourished lately on Alternative, so that may benefit Corgan's chances for resurgence. Listeners love him. However, the real challenge will be if he can come back to his glory days with the Pumpkins after the shipwreck of Zwan.
Sincerely, Noah Eaton

Zwan was far from a "shipwreck." Commercial success isn't everything.

There is one reason and only one reason why I believe so many people hated Zwan: It wasn't the Pumpkins. Hardly anyone really comes close to the Pumpkins, though. Billy's future stuff will always be critiqued in some way negatively.
With that being said, I cannot wait to hear this. It would be cool if he went on tour with the Jimmy Chamberlin Complex in support of the album (well, Jimmy was in Zwan).

I hear that TheFutureEmbrace is more reminicent of Adore, which is excellent, as it's my favorite SP album. But it was a flop pretty much, and The Pumpkins haven't really been 'relevant' in terms of Alt. Radio since Melon Collie. Machina flopped hard as well.

I honestly think solo Billy Corgan will be received better than Zwan was.

Well, Billy has changed a lot since SP's heyday (he's a born-again christian now), so I'm not sure if he still appeals to the teen market... and I doubt he'll release angsty, pandering, contrived crap like that new NIN song just to sell records (I've heard the rest of the NIN album, and it's actually quite good).

I have always disliked Billy Corgan's voice and material. I hope this flops because really, I can't deal with any more material of his.

Zwan was far from a "shipwreck." Commercial success isn't everything. Look, by "shipwreck" I meant just that. Commerically, it wasn't received well, but it also didn't translate successfully to most Smashing Pumpkins martyrs. But it was critically-loved. "Mary Star of the Sea" got a 75 score on MetaCritic, which is a "Generally Good" category review that falls barely short of "Universal Acclaim". I really enjoyed "Mary Star Of The Sea" immensely. "Jesus, I/Mary Star of the Sea" is one of the best recordings Corgan has ever done. I velieve Corgan intentionally wanted to paint a happier atmosphere in that band, and the power pop experiment was very brave, bold and beautiful. "Lyric", "Settle Down", "Declarations of Faith", "Endless Summer", they all rocked. I wish other Smashing Pumpkins fans could have appreciated that release in a similar fashion. But that just wasn't the case, and when many fans even turn against the experiment, it has got to be a disappointment by all means. Sincerely, Noah Eaton

Billy being successful with this would be the ULTIMATE 90's comeback, seeing as even the Pumpkins themselves didn't enjoy widespread success since 1996/1997.
I hope for his sake that it does awesome, because I love him and would love to add his name to the list of recent 90's comebacks!

It seems to me that a majority of Smashing Pumpkins fans only want Bullet With Butterfly Wings Pt. 2, and unfortunately for them, its not going to happen.
I hope this does well as 2005 seems to be the year that the music decided to come back. Add this to a list including Coldplay, Oasis, The White Stripes, Tool, Foo Fighters, Red Hot Chili Peppers, Pearl Jam, Frank Black, Deftones, Team Sleep (Chino from the Deftones), The Transplants (members of Rancid and Blink 182), The Dandy Warhols, Yeah Yeah Yeahs, The Strokes, Brand New, Dashboard Confessional (unless Chris decides to scrap the album again) and who knows who else that are expected to release new music this year.

I don't necessarily think it has to be another "Bullet With Butterfly Wings". It could also be another "Today" or "1979". Some of these bands will get lost in the shuffle I think. Oasis seems to be keeping in a slump, the Deftones I'm skeptical of, The Strokes hype has faded off, and Pearl Jam still has a shot but I'm getting the feeling they're striking everyone as more Triple A now, with the way Vedder sounds more like Neil Young or Bruce Springsteen than ever before. Yeah Yeah Yeah's are in the middle right now to me. They didn't do as well as most predicted before, but I do think they are a "cool factor" artist right now and they continue to inch up in popularity IF a catchier lead single is produced off their next release. Sincerely, Noah Eaton

This isn't bad. It doesn't sound like something that will take him back to the top, but it's definitely alright. He's taking advantage of the 80's sound. It's very Killers-esque.

They have a new strict "policy" for some reason.
Thanks for sending it!
I think I like it..but it does not remind me of Billy Corgan. Well it does, but I think the sound confuses me a tad. Maybe when I hear it in cd quality form.
This may sound stupid, but Im just happy to hear something new from him haha.

They have a new strict "policy" for some reason. It's not a strict policy and it's not really new. Proboards doesn't want good quality versions of copyrighted songs posted here.

They have a new strict "policy" for some reason. Uh that's Proboards rule, not ours. But you can rest assured we will be enforcing it. Thanks.

I saw the video last week. It was how I expected a video with him would be. The song is quite good but I do think it will have a hard time becoming succesful.

The original post made absolutely no mention of proboards, but rather said that "we are tired of it detracting from music discussion" We only know what you guys tell us and what you told us was definitely NOT that proboards made it illegal. (Which, makes sense if proboards did, but like I said, thats not even close to what the original post said) Anyways Cant wait to see the video

The original post also mentioned somewhere that "links to download songs were getting out of control", and my immediate thought was "What?! Not in any place that's important on the board, at least!". And while the rule makes sense and I totally understand why it had to be implemented, it really sucks that a bunch of morons on other boards had to go ruin it for all of us.

Yep, I agree with the earlier comments regarding this new track.
It is another decent Corgan-related offering, but I don't think this is Corgan's golden ticket for a full-scale comeback.
I'm under the impression that Billy Corgan is not one of the more anticipated Alternative stories currently, thus he'll keep a low-profile on this format.
Since this is a lead single, and, obviously...Billy Corgan...that alone should at least get him somewhere. But he'll remain astronomically far from the Smashing Pumpkins golden years, and even off from the brief impact Zwan had.
My Prediction: #26
Sincerely, Noah Eaton

While a file was sent to me, my dumb computer would not play this Still, I'm curious to hear this. I think Billy's name alone will send this to the top ten, seeing as "Honestly" wasn't the most appropriate song to release at the format in the time when people liked the "Headstrong"/"Somewhere I Belong" sound.
